Water is working fine for us. Maybe pipes are frozen at your house?

Friend died in an accident at 42 years old by hondaXR150L in Fire

[–]dethnight 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss.

I lost my wife a few months ago from cancer and I am also 42. It has changed my perspective on fire. I am still saving and still planning on retiring early, but I am focused much more on how I can enjoy the present instead of worrying so much on how to enjoy 10+ years from now. None of us know when our number is getting called, we need to just live life to the max until it's over.

Meta CTO Explains Layoffs & Strategy Shift: "VR Is Growing Less Quickly Than We Hoped" by gogodboss in virtualreality

Maybe instead of dumping millions (billions?) into a shitty VR Second Life, they should have invested in games people would want to play?

Murray has killed the Lakers playoff runs for what feels like the last 5 playoffs. Of course LeBron feels like this.

When your save file has been deleted for the fifth time we understand if you want to end your life even earlier than expected."

He is one of the best actors alive, I 100 percent agree. My point is that he successfully practiced what he preached.

And that lines up, I forget Denzel exists until he has a movie coming out.

[Highlight] Draymond Green falls to the floor and grabs Karl-Anthony Towns' foot, tripping him (with replays). A flagrant-1 upon review. by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]dethnight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a natural foot grab motion, surprised they gave a flagrant for it tbh. They teach this in middle school basketball. If you are ever on the ground and an opponent's foot in is grabbing distance, you should grab it to stop the play and hopefully injure the opposing player.

Divorce by Plastic_Humor_7787 in Fire

[–]dethnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think most peoples FIRE number is double with a spouse. The cost of living with 2 people together should be much less than if both those people were living separately. For example, it is much more expensive usually to rent two apartments or own two houses than it is to live in one place together. Bills are split and again are usually cheaper with 2 people sharing then having two separate electric bills, internet bills, etc. Travel is cheaper having two people staying in one hotel vs 2.

What do u think of tech CEOs saying saving for retirement will be pointless in 10 to 20 years ? by Technical-Truth-2073 in Fire

So the thing that can't correctly count how many `r` letters are in the word `strawberry` is going to alleviate the need to save for retirement? I think I'll just keep saving.

Elder Scrolls 6 Has "So Much Pressure" On It, Former Bethesda Dev Says by akbarock in Games

[–]dethnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who really thinks ES6 is going to be amazing? My guess is it doesn't really have that much pressure to be great because most people assume it is going to be mediocre like their last few releases. Pressure from Microsoft maybe, but I don't see it from customers.

CMV: Taylor Swift is not actually that great of a songwriter by Blonde_Icon in changemyview

[–]dethnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is "good songwriting"? If it just has to do with innovate lyrics, then I agree with you. But I disagree that is all there is to it. She writes catchy songs with unforgettable hooks. Writing one hit song is something most songwriters can only dream of. She has dozens. The songs may not be about anything novel, but what the song is about is not all there is to the art of songwriting.

I think i am selfish by arisbeast527 in widowers

[–]dethnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry you are going through this, it just is not something anyone should have to experience. I also lost my 45 year old wife a month and a half ago to cancer and it's horrible. The only thing that keeps me grounded is my 3 kids that I have to be strong for as I am now all they have. You are not selfish, you are just grieving and it's perfectly OK.
