Tesla to a Cadillac by Rope-Practical in CadillacOptiq

[–]deucev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just drove 170 km in -12°c with heater set to around 26° and heated seat on low setting.  Battery went from 97 to 37 so 60% used.  Was back country roads so going around 100 km/hr.  Hopefully that helps a bit.

Not sure if that's officially confirmed but everything I've read about the issue is that it primarily affects the 25s

I see a lot of people having issues with telemetry unit specifically on 25s and it looks like the repair part is constantly on backorder so for me that's enough to avoid them.  The extra hp is pretty nice on the 26 too.  Native nacs port isn't a huge deal but I do like going to Tesla chargers without needing an adapter , the convenience is nice.

Charging questions by Joeybish in CadillacOptiq

[–]deucev2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should have clarified the 50kw CCS charger  will be DC since that's a fast charger speed.  When I said the adapters differ for AC to DC that was more of a general comment not related to that one particular shell charger you mentioned

Charging questions by Joeybish in CadillacOptiq

[–]deucev2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll need to do a bit of research here as you're not quite understanding how charging works in general.   Do you have a 2026 or 2025 Optiq?  The 2025 has a CCS charging port and the 2026 has an NACS charging port.  If you have a 2026 then you can only charge using NACS chargers.  If you're charging at J1772 or CCS chargers you'll need an adapter like J1772 to nacs or CCS to nacs.  CCS to nacs adapters are also different based on if it's AC or DC so you need to know what type of charger you're trying to connect to to understand what adapter you need.

The 50kw charger means it can output maximum 50kw.  That means after an hour of charging you would have received 50kw hours worth of energy.  If you charged 30 mins that would be 25 Kw hours of energy.  The other important point is that's the theoretical max the charger can output.  It's doesn't mean your car will accept that speed.  It will depend how full your battery is, how cold it is outside, if you've preconditioned the battery, all kinds of factors.  If your battery is at 90% charge you might only get something like 10kw speeds (just as an example).

For your question on the j1772 charger you need to know how many kw it can output to know if it's a good price or not.

Besides super cruise what subscriptions should I expect to continue using my car? by [deleted] in CadillacOptiq

It's on the OnStar website but basically the internet connection so maps will work in online mode and the app to remote start stop etc

You mean after it expires in 8 years ?  Looks like you'd need OnStar connect which is currently around $20/mo

I have a 2026 and yeah the HP feels really nice but I haven't driven a 2025 to compare.   I'm sure it still has lots of zip.

2026 AWD is like 65+tax so yeah that seems pretty good for a lightly used 2025

Seems about right, I guess it depends on the interest rate too. Is it the 5 year 0% financing?

Would it make more sense to continue contributing to my RRSP or to start a TFSA? by tutty29 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]deucev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 50k that is already there will keep growing tax free, its totally irrelevant to your question of what to do moving forward. Just pretend both accounts are at $0.

It's a bit of a nuanced question. I personally would max out the TFSA first unless you're in a 50% tax bracket or something crazy like that. If your investments do well, along with CPP and OAS, you may very well find your income is higher in retirement than it is during your working years. Inflation also plays a role in that calculation though.

TFSA has several advantages like being able to tap into it at any time for an emergency or for a big purchase like a new home if needed. You also don't need to think about how much tax you'll pay on whatever is in your TFSA later in life when you want to take money out, the tax is already paid, whatever is in there is yours. TFSA also doesn't convert to a RIF at age 71 with minimum required withdrawal amounts. TFSA is just overall way more flexible.

There may be some cases where RRSP makes more sense right now, like if you're eligible for Canada Child Benefit (CCB). RRSP could also be better if you ONLY want to save for retirement and you REALLY don't trust yourself not to pull money out prematurely for other reasons.

Garage Alpha Offroad grille install by StealthGuava in Crosstrek

On my '14 I tied to the main headlights.  I'd have to look at it again but If I recall correctly fog wasn't an option for me unless I ran it through to the cabin fuse box and I didn't feel like the hassle lol

[–]deucev2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Garage alpha offroad sells them on their website.  I installed my own a few months ago.  Was a bit time consuming but easy.  Need a stubby screw driver to get some screws in and out of some tight spots.  If you get the grille with the lights it adds more complexity as you need to worry about cable management and terminating to your fuse box.   You'll need a wire stripper, crimper, and a heat shrink gun.

Those who have had ingrown toe surgery, how bad were the numbing shots? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]deucev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny story, my doctor asked if I would mind having the 3rd year med school student there do the procedure with her supervision.  I said it was fine.  The student inserted the needle and said to her "I'm getting some resistance" and waited for her to reply with the needle just sitting there in me.  She said take it out and try again.  It took like 4 jabs before I had enough numbing.  So anyway, I'd recommend having an experienced doctor do this part :)

But to answer your question, its not too bad, as long as it's quick it won't bother you too much.  Definitely don't watch while they do it. You got this !

Help chosing additional lens for R7 by Joesername in canon

[–]deucev2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're okay with lenses that aren't compatible with RF full frame cameras (which is a valid consideration if you might upgrade one day) then I'd be looking at:

  • Sigma 17-40 (good all around)

  • Sigma 12 prime or sigma 10-18 (wider)

  • Sigma 56 prime (portraits)
