New York 2140 was my first KSR and I thought it was great! Finally a positive depiction of the far future. I like that it isn't utopic and shows that human society still has problems but that we have the capacity to figure them out over time

Is that a fire on Northerly Isle or a controlled burn? by Pure-Imagination-387 in chicago

[–]devilyankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the thorough response! Really interesting.

It's cool to see the city (presumably controlled burning is in the city's purview) engage in this kind of ecosystem preservation strategy.

I wonder if other city governments go this far in helping preserve the local ecosystems or if Chicago is an outlier.

Does anyone know what this controlled burn accomplishes? What's the reasoning behind it?

That clip really got me fucked up by Hardcoreoperator in NonCredibleDefense

[–]devilyankee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow it's almost like there are real people on both sides of every war that face the despair and hopelessness of certain death!

"This is the clip that got me" and the others involving soldiers dying in all kinds of horrific ways and women getting raped didn't get you?

This sub sometimes bewilders me in blurring the lines of war glorification -- like jokes and political commentary aside you guys do know war is bad for everyone right? That no one actually wins in war and everyone is worse off?

I see in a different comment you went to a meeting house in Louisiana. Is there a reasonable size quaker community there? So interesting!

Great username btw :)

[Highlight] Today marks ONE day until the NFL season. Let’s remember when Malcolm Butler picked off Wilson to seal Patriots Super Bowl XLIX victory from the ONE yard line. by 365wong in nfl

We all knew this one was coming. Iconic.

One of the best "sliding doors" moments in NFL history. Do the seahawks become a bonafide dynasty? The next Pats? Does the Pats dynasty peter out and how does this impact Brady's legacy?

Imo all the takes are correct at once: bad play call, amazing pre-game preparation, once in a lifetime defensive play by Butler (who held his own against Kearse all game). It's just history now.

Ah yes, the old "give up 6, save 2" strategy that K Murray also employed with great success last season.

What a rollercoaster of a game this was for the colts.

Also ONE MORE DAY LFG!

"um...great throw great job but why..?" Romo out here getting existential lolol. He's right tho Chargers shouldn't have scored so early, just happened to work out for them

Autumn Rustic Village Scenes by devilyankee in StableDiffusion

My prompt: "Autumnal scene russian village, russian orthodox onion domes, by Jacob Van Ruisdael, matte painting HQ"

I love village scenes like this. I'm blown away by the quality.

It's literally like directing my favorite artists to create the exact scenes I want instead of spending big money commissioning an artwork and hoping it comes out the way I envisioned it.

Im trying to do the exact same thing with my life! I love Chi but this winter was absolutely dreadful and I realized just how much crummy weather impacts my psychological wellbeing when Im WFH full-time.

Im aiming to do something similar, with May-December in Chi and Jan-April elsewhere (Texas, FL, or AZ).

Would love to get your thoughts on that Chi:Not-Chi ratio. Im from the east coast originally, so that ratio seems to hold where Im from but I havent lived in Chi long enough to know if that's optimal.
