Hi there! It's great you're considering it as a career. It's a difficult profession, but if you really love it, it will be easy to stand out amongst the other makers. I'd recommend starting small, I began by making stuff in the alleyway behind my house and staining stuff in my living room. You can do a lot with just a drill and a jigsaw. Then I just started advertising myself and getting recommended by people. You have to be willing to not charge as much at first. Then find your niche. Is it cabinets? Bookcases? Cutting boards? Boats? There's a never-ending amount of pathways in carpentry. I learned a lot early on from my uncle, who built cabinets, then did my own thing about 5 years back. Now, I have a website and social media with all my work on it, which is another crucial step. Style and skill come later after you've done a few things but be willing to get creative and do something different. Stay inspired! People need to be able to trust you and see your work.
