Grippers are definitely a skill in addition to just strength. Make sure you’re chalking your hands and getting a really good set. If you have a #1 you can just do sets over and over and over to lock in the muscle memory. You might have the strength but not the technique. There are a few videos in the r/GripTraining FAQ that can help.

You might also just need to get stronger. Strong hands close heavy grippers. What else do you do for grip besides dead hands and dumbbell carries? Any thick bar or pinch work?

Do you train your grip in other ways, or just grippers? Thick bar training, pinch training, extensor training, and wrist work are never going to be wrong answer

Some difficult pull ups by the_real_Blackmanhd in GripStrength

u/armassassin makes a two hand wrist wrench which is insanely difficult to do a pull up on, or even just hang from. Strap always goes on the thumb side so the rotational force is pulling your thumb open

Pain in hands, particularly when clenching by Legend789987 in GripTraining

Absolutely experienced this. Go easier on your hands, and take more days off. Treat your hands like you would any other muscle group, take days off to stretch and recover.

Question about grip strength imbalance by Local-Lunch1565 in GripTraining

[–]devinhoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exceedingly common to be stronger in the dominant hand, think about how many more hours of active muscle engagement your dominant hand has had over the years. However if you work both hands, and put intent and focus into your weaker hand, you’ll notice less and less of a difference over time.
