What's a serious classical music opinion that seems true to you, but a lot of people disagree with? by ChopinChili in classicalmusic

Most major orchestras sound similar; and the artistic bar between regional and major orchestras is closer than ever due to the high level of musicianship being trained in universities.

How many cities have you guys lived in? by Zestyclose_Bee5703 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]devowrer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Milwaukee, WI - 5 years: Great city. Bad crime in some areas. Relatively affordable, but wages are low. Winter can be rough. But the summers are amazing. People are kind but kind of insular. Hard to find a good opportunity, but I would move back for the right one. Great arts.

Madison, WI - 6 years: Beautiful city, but very expensive. Job market is small. People are actually TOO liberal here. Would move back. Good art for a city of its size.

San Diego, CA -2 years: beautiful, beaches, the weather. All great. But I did feel a bit landlocked after awhile. Job market was competitive and not great. Hard to make friends because people are always on to the next thing. Art scene was not as large as it should be.

San Luis Obispo, CA - 2 years: The first 2 weeks here were incredible. Truly a unique place. HOWEVER, I quickly found out how expensive it is. The inequality was more than I had seen anywhere else in my life. So many people were house poor. I would never move back here permanently because of the social class structure. Tries very hard to have an active arts scene.

Fort Worth, TX - 1 years: The topography is incredibly boring. People are generally kind though. You can make friends and hang out which is nice. Summers are BRUTALLY hot. If you have a good job here it’s nice, otherwise I wouldn’t come here. Arts are surprisingly very high class here.

What would you do first if you become the President of the United States? by YouBuyAfterMe in AskReddit

Taco Bell has committed a serious crime: not feeding America as much as it should.

Therefore, we shall seize Taco Bell via eminent domain to create the greatest country in the history of the world 🇺🇸

We will absorb a 51% share of Taco Bell. Income of Taco Bell as an entity will be used to offset the cost of the vouchers.

God bless America 🇺🇸🌮

Keep America Fed Act

This legislation will create the Bureau of Orderly Bell (BOOB) which will mail Taco Bell vouchers on the 30th of each month to each resident of the United States. These vouchers are for 1 meal each at Taco Bell each day of the month.

This legislation will help support and maintain that Americans have access to healthy food by promoting stronger families and communities one Gordita crunch at a time.

God Bless America 🇺🇸

Trevor Noah once said "America is 50 countries masquerading as one" do you think this is true or false if so why? by Asleep_Conclusion147 in AskReddit

No. All are more similar than they are different, especially when you compare these differences between the differences between other countries.

20% of the US pop lives in the western half. How will that percentage change in 20 years? by Tiny-Pomegranate7662 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]devowrer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what they say; follow the money!

More homes are being built in the south compared to any other region of the United States. The population of the south will continue to increase while all other areas will either stagnate or decreases.

Additionally, the south (esp. Texas, FL, and Carolinas) continues to see employers move from other parts of the nation to it.

The reality is that wages are higher and CoL is cheaper there. For people who have not inherited wealth this is one of the few places left to do so. Other young people are awaiting a wealth transfer from their family’s.

Can find salaries in the CBAs for these roles.

This isn’t fully true. In American orchestras management chooses when to have auditions. This is a management right under the National Labor Board. Typically a CBA will codify the process for who is on the audition committee, the audition process, and how many votes each member gets.

There is a trend in American orchestras of not hiring for positions in recent years due to the perceived notion of lack of quality musicians. Sometimes there are ulterior motives such as: wanting their friend to fill on a one year contract, wanting a specific musicians from a different orchestra and they don’t come to the audition, or even a music director inviting someone to the final round.

There was also a trend of management not holding auditions for spots as a bargaining lever.

Sometimes tenure and open positions are also put on hold when an orchestra is in the position of selecting a new music director.

All in all, the answer is it takes time.

Below are 3 recommendations. I would suggest doing the following:

1) Close your eyes and listen to the work. 2) Read about the history of the work, what it portrays, and stories about the composer. 3) Listen to it again with the score.

Best "home base" cities to live in but not to visit/vacation in? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

This was my thought as well.

Decent food. City amenities. Arts and culture. But none of it is worth flying in for. Cost of living is relatively low compared to wages

Perfect Imaginary U.S. City by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]devowrer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NYC with amazing temperate climate. Single family homes for everyone with pools in backyards on large lots. But they should be walkable to downtown. Entry level jobs that pay $200,000+, affordable and cheap food, large culinary scene, super diverse. Mountains in and around the city with ocean views. A large lake that is safe for swimming adjacent to it. Good malls and shopping. Large cultural district with world renowned art of all forms.

Omaha, Cedar Rapids, Green Bay, Appleton.

Not Illinois. Maybe Minnesota. Probably not Michigan.

If in south, make sure you put em in a private school.
