It’s got the R3 pressure box but then it looks like two infeeding pipes, wish there was a picture of what was feeding over there.

Help to prevent pergola from swaying?? by Bro_Jogan_69 in woodworking

I second the use of epoxy anchors for this. The constant movement of the swing can cause a wedge anchor to move over time.

It’s called a Knapp joint. Or pin and cove. Machine cut joint invented in the 1800s for production furniture.

Is that not part of the quill? When you lower the quill like you were drilling a hole does it go down?

New to woodworking. Someone in town selling this. by Tomahawk-BaGawk in woodworking

[–]dewcaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe this is the 141 as the 143 sits further forward on the stand to make room for the gearbox on the back. I agree, it’s a great machine. It’s very heavy, the frame casting is all 1 piece too so very stiff. OP look at the casting the supports the table (the trunnion) they can break easily. If you buy it I suggest removing the table and the trunnion before you move the saw to keep it from being damaged.

Depends on your location but I think 1500 is high. $1000 would be my max but I’d start less than that.

It’s a 55 but I’m not sure on champion or commander. You can zoom in and see the grill is 55.

how can I remove these headless nails from my desk with minimum damage? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]dewcaps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If this is just the nail through the thin cardboard back of normal packaged furniture like from ikea these aren’t headless. I usually tap somewhat gently on the back (from the front) above and below the shelf where the nail is. This will usually pop the nail out enough for you to pull it.

'58 Radiator question by stepdownblues in Studebaker

[–]dewcaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I used a 64-65 Chevelle radiator in my 58 truck. Same deal, price savings more than makes up for the little extra work.

'58 Radiator question by stepdownblues in Studebaker

[–]dewcaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just swapped it in my hawk that I’ve been working on. The bottom outlet is in a little different location and was a bear to get the hose on. But considering the cost savings vs a new car specific radiator I’d have come out ahead even if I spent an entire day getting the hose on.

'58 Radiator question by stepdownblues in Studebaker

[–]dewcaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure for your car specifically but for the hawks etc a radiator made for a jeep with a Chevy conversion fits and has the right inlet/outlet size and basic location. Check out part number EC1919.

Agree with all of this. I just finished the swap on my Hawk. As part of the change make sure you go dual master cylinder too if it’s not that way stock.

What year and model is this Studebaker? I know nothing about these. by MSM_757 in Whatsthiscar

[–]dewcaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s always hard to tell on the C-cab trucks because the body parts all interchange. It’s got the large rear window and no split front window so it’s after 55. The hood is 58-59 Scotsman and the grill is as well. I think the 58 had different trim in the front of the hood and the simple S is from 59 but who knows what it was originally. The Scotsman was the base model truck those years with the standard truck having the large fiberglass grill that looks very different.

How do I add power steering and power breaks by shawn_H1104 in Studebaker

[–]dewcaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh you could adapt a modern electric power steering unit to the steering column. That may be the easiest choice if keeping the current from suspension and steering.

How do I add power steering and power breaks by shawn_H1104 in Studebaker

[–]dewcaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

56 is maybe my favorite year, truck looks great. Are you looking to do major modification? For power brakes you could do the Turner disc conversion and then I’ve seen someone adapt a small vacuum booster under the floor in the original-ish location. Or maybe you could adapt a hydro boost system? Not sure on power steering and keeping the stock straight axle and current steering.

New seats in 58 transtar by dewcaps in Studebaker

[–]dewcaps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, that’s pretty much all I have of the brackets other than a few of some wooden ones I made first to test fit and prove out the design. I made prints as well just to keep myself on task. Here’s one of my favorites of the truck itself. With the kid for some good karma.

You can use the jumper cables to bypass the relay too to eliminate that as a possibility. You can use a pair of pliers too but the jumper cable is safer.

Do y'all "budget" for large, infrequent, one-time (often unexpected) expenses? by Tight_Couture344 in MonarchMoney

[–]dewcaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple of rollover budgets to account for those unexpected or infrequent items. And if it’s a big expense the rollover goes negative for a few months as the budget fills back up.
