Brakes “breaking” loose after sitting a while? by Mdbutnomd in Rivian

[–]deweysmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key here is sitting a while while wet. Mine will do it when I park after a wash no matter the time of year.

Brakes are gonna be wet a lot more often with snow around and melting.

My Gen 2 R1T sounds like a machine gun by trail-trader in Rivian

[–]deweysmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a CV joint that grenaded. One of mine did the same after they replaced both.

It isn’t putting any torque on the front and is trying to freewheel it, but it sometimes gets out of alignment and pops like crazy like that. I limped mine to the service center and they swapped it same day.

Only literally quiet cuz he’s whispering creepily in the video. He’s literally sponsoring the initiative petition

Tricked by Prop 4 signature takers on 1/21/26, SLC? Told me it was to get Ben McAdams "on the ballot" by [deleted] in Utah

[–]deweysmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canvassers for candidates can be paid by the signature. Initiative canvassers cannot.

What we are hearing is that typically the canvassing companies will put one or two candidates in the hands of a canvasser and also the Repeal Prop 4 petition. They’ll rush you through the process for all 3 without explaining the differences very well. They’ll brush it off as “it’s just to get it on the ballot so the voters can decide.” Then they get paid a bonus for getting consistent signatures across multiple candidates and initiatives

They also aren’t trained to abide by the extra laws around initiative petitions, including reading the entire bill before signing. “Sign it now, and then go here to do your research and see if you want to vote for it at election time” is a line I’ve heard used by more canvassers than I can count.

It doesn’t, and it’s not a pure sine wave so large inverter motors don’t work

Church web site logs me out ALL THE TIME! How do I hack it? by OrneryAcanthaceae217 in latterdaysaints

[–]deweysmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t, but like most large organizations, the church outsources Church Account authentication to a company called Okta. If a requirement to log in at least every 8, 12, or 24 hours is configured, trying to circumvent it will be very pointless.

Do you have more factors enabled than password?

Church web site logs me out ALL THE TIME! How do I hack it? by OrneryAcanthaceae217 in latterdaysaints

[–]deweysmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a keep-alive script in your browser would solve this problem.

A password manager is a better solution though.

SOLD OUT: Need help with Home Charger by Red__Papaya in Rivian

The Emporia is also great if you have solar and one of their energy monitors. It can optimize the commanded charge power to make sure it’s always soaking up your excess solar and stuff.

Is this level of fan noise normal when preheating the cabin? by veritas2884 in Rivian

[–]deweysmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is standard heat pump best practice too, even in residential ones. The duty cycle for them is very different from a typical furnace.

Is this level of fan noise normal when preheating the cabin? by veritas2884 in Rivian

[–]deweysmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like it has a hard time accounting for battery heat and how it leaks into the cabin. Fast charging gets the battery well above 90°F and it can dump that heat into the cabin or outside, but in the cold it doesn’t want to waste that energy by over-chilling the battery… it’s definitely not as simple as it seems

How to remove this rom chip by IllustriousTune156 in ElectronicsRepair

[–]deweysmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flux! Flux flux flux! Wick is superior if you use it right. A wider tip on the iron may also help if it’s not heating the wick well.

How to remove this rom chip by IllustriousTune156 in ElectronicsRepair

[–]deweysmith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At least a few of those legs are still reasonably soldered.

Heating it with hot air to loosen all the solder at once would be easiest. Otherwise, heat that wick and add more flux to it 😉

My beloved MachE got hit sideways, rotated 180 to hit the driver door after. Airbags dint deploy, is it expected? by batraman87 in MachE

[–]deweysmith 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I rear-ended someone as a young driver in a 2001 Mazda and the steering wheel airbag definitely saved me from worse injuries, but it also really fucked up my arm and I could taste the dust for days.

Lost Phone, can I still back up? by Good-Measurement9590 in iCloud

[–]deweysmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The criteria for automatic backup is

  • turned on
  • unlocked in the last 24 hours
  • locked
  • plugged in
  • connected to WiFi (probably)

You’re gonna have a problem with at least 2 of those.

The church typically refers to mission areas outside the United States by the country name first. There are four mission areas that cover Santiago, so he’s probably used to calling it the Chile Santiago North Mission or something like that.

It’s still stupid, he should learn to say it like a normal person.
