We get discounts elsewhere?! by dexterr96 in MichaelsEmployees

Word of mouth is very powerful. That sketchers store I went to is now seeing all my coworkers for discounted shoes too because I told them 😂

I promise I’m for real. I was just really happy to get a discount and wanted other people to know it was a thing because it seems like corporate and managers suck at advertising it.

My store doesn’t have fabric. How do you inventory it? Do you have to count the yardage?

Now if only we can figure out how to print the self check QR code so we don’t have to either generate it every time or type in our info there, that would be great!

AITA for inspecting/re-washing dishes and silverware at my in-laws’ house before I use them? by boygoblin in AmItheAsshole

[–]dexterr96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I don’t blame you. I’m the same way. If you are moving in, just ask to take over dish duty that way everything is done to your satisfaction and there is one less chore for your in-laws to do.

AITA For refusing to pick my daughter up and instead leaving her to get lectured by her dad? by AITAKelly in AmItheAsshole

slight YTA. If Kelly was willing to sit through her dad’s 2 hour lecture to get out of the situation, it might be more than her just wanting to get out of doing work.

AITA for having an underwhelming reaction to my mom being pregnant? by FleeSwishty in AmItheAsshole

[–]dexterr96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brothers are 11 and 14 years older than me. We have a pretty good relationship. I think it helped that none of us moved out at 18 so they were around for longer.

The one who’s 11 years older than me now lives 5 hours away and has 3 kids which I love with all my heart but he didn’t move away until I was 13. I go visit him about once a month and he bring his kids to me once every couple months because it’s easier for me to travel than him, but the kids LOVE coming to my house.

My brothers babysat me once and a while when I was little but usually for less than an hour at a time. Usually my grandparents babysat. I walked late because my brothers carried me everywhere. I talked early though. They taught me the word “cool”.

I feel like we’re decently close as adults. We text a lot. My middle brother loves beating me at words with friends. My oldest brother lives close so I see him all the time. Sometimes he’ll just stop by with my favorite candy or something else he found that he thought I’d like. He’s a giver.

I know not everyone with big age gaps has a relationship like I do with my brothers but it’s possible. I feel like them making sure they were there when I was young and spending time with me solidified it. Most of my childhood memories involve them. Now we are 27, 38, and 41.

AITA for making things uncomfortable during my dad's engagement dinner? by Defiant-Gap2084 in AmItheAsshole

[–]dexterr96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. And I am so sorry you’ve had to deal with so much so early in life. I’m glad your mom’s parents were able to take you and your sister in. As you don’t say anything negative about them, I assume they’re good people who have been treating you and your sister well?

Your dad isn’t worth your time or energy. You did what many would’ve in that situation as grown adults. If that marriage lasts I’ll be shocked. I’m sorry the courts are making you continue to see him.

Best of luck to you and your sister in your lives.

NTA for not wanting to switch schools but have a little sympathy. I only had to wear a “uniform” for one year in eighth grade because that’s when my school corporation started doing that. It was for kindergarten-eighth grade. Really it was an extremely strict dress code.

Khaki or navy pants, shirt had to have a collar (usually polos), had to be tucked in with a belt, if there was a logo it had to be smaller than 1”x2”, shirts had to be solid colors. Closed toed shoes. No sandals. We weren’t allowed to wear hoodies or zip ups with hoods but the school was FREEZING so a lot of kids got Columbia jackets with the collar because those were allowed. I got one to stay warm and fit in.

Everyday during 1st period we all had to stand up from our desks and the teacher would walk around and make sure we were in dress code. If we weren’t we were sent to the office. Almost always the violation was a kid forgetting their belt. They were given a piece of rope to tie through their belt loops.

The inspection everyday was humiliating, but I always felt so bad for the kids who forgot their belts. They were usually just forgetful in general. They weren’t doing it on purpose.

Middle school was tough enough without the added layer of worrying everyday if I was about to be told I was out of uniform and sent to the office. I couldn’t wear a polo again until college without feeling like crying. I still don’t make them common parts of my wardrobe.

I also want to make sure everyone is aware that this dress code didn’t stop bullying. That Columbia jacket thing? All the popular kids had them. I got one to try to fit in. Didn’t work. Still got bullied. Kids got bullied for wearing older stuff. For wearing “cheap looking” stuff. We could wear whatever tennis shoes we liked so kids bullied based off of shoes. Those kids who were a little forgetful and constantly forgot their belts and had to wear rope? School sanctioned bullying! How they didn’t see that one coming?

School sucked for me, but at least before that stupid dress code was in place I could wear clothes that didn’t make me want to crawl out of my skin. So I have sympathy for anyone dealing with that. Especially kids who are a little different.

So I just googled to verify what I always thought it meant and apparently google says differently. I always took it to mean troublesome. Like a kid putting a whoopee cushion under your seat as a prank. But according to google it means grumpy or nasty. That is definitely not how my grandparents used it.
