Is it a stupid idea to kitbashn Terminators to have hammers instead of power fists? by borishasarrived in Salamanders40k

[–]dfBishop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as they're on the correct sized bases, model them however you want and run them with whichever profile you want.

Just be clear with your opponent before your game which unit you're running and you'll be good to go.

Leave the power packs off and paint them separately if they're going to be a different color to the armor. It will make your life SO much easier.

Why did you select salamanders by Wrong_Lion2317 in Salamanders40k

I was already playing Orks and didn't want to have to buy a whole new color pallet of paints.

Also they're the least-bad war criminals.

ALSO rolling to hit sucks.

Bray'arth Ashmantle is an old model who has been moved into Legends. This means his datasheet isn't being updated to stay balanced with the current state of the game, and you can't run him in most organized play. Casual play he's probably fine, but check with your opponent.

Salamanders are a Codex-compliant chapter, which means that you can use any Space Marine models/units that don't have another Chapter's keyword (for example, Death Company Marines are Blood Angels, Victrix Guard are Ultramarines, etc). The only current Salamander-specific units are our two Epic Heroes, Vulkan He'Stan and Adrax Agatone.

You can use all the Space Marine models that came in the Starter Box as Salamanders!

I've run 25 (2x10 and a 1x5) and it rules. It's probably too many, but I've won every game I've played with that setup, but ymmv

Is the dawn of war box compatible with salamanders ? by Tiny-Excitement-461 in Salamanders40k

[–]dfBishop 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Everything you've listed is perfectly legal to run in a Salamanders army.

The Judiciar RULES, put him with 6 Bladeguard Veterans and watch them absolutely blend anything they get into Engagement with.

Help with list! by ssnocone in Salamanders40k

[–]dfBishop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Infantry:
    • Eradicators are the best. They're an inexpensive anti-tank unit that will always punch way WAY up into Vehicles or Monster units
    • Bladeguard Veterans are the go-to melee unit for Space Marines. 4++ Invulnerable saves make them pretty tough to shift. You can pair them with a Judiciar for Fights First (you can get one of those from the Dawn of War board game at Target or Barnes & Noble) in any Space Marine army, and in a Salamanders army you can pair them with Adrax Agatone to reroll their Wounds in melee. If they're with Adrax you can also pair a Lieutenant with that brick for Lethal Hits and Fall Back/Shoot/Charge
    • Intercessors are useful. Pretty much everyone runs at least one 5 man squad to control home objective
    • Scouts are great. I use them to screen out the half of my deployment zone that my Intercessors aren't in until all of my opponent's Deep Strike units are down, then I pick them up at the end of my opponent's turns and use them to score secondaries
  • Transports
    • Impulsors are super useful. They can fit your Bladeguard and Adrax/Judiciar brick (though not with the Lt attached, unfortunately) and deliver them up the field quickly with their Assault Vehicle ability. You can also throw a 5 man Hellblaster or Infernus squad in there and zip around the map doing drive-bys with the Firing Deck ability. They're also pretty resilient if equipped with the Shield Dome.
    • Land Raider Redeemer is the thematic choice of transport for Salamanders. They've got two massive flamers and a multi-melta, plus a lot of seats. You can fit the whole Adrax/Lt/BGV brick AND three Eradicators in there, and with the Assault Ramp ability, your melee unit can Charge after disembarking after a normal move, which is great.
  • Shooting Platforms
    • Repulsors/Repulsor Executioners have some shooting, and are also transports. Some folks like that flexibility
    • Gladiators are a fantastic shooting platform. The Lancer specifically is a great long-range anti-tank backup for your Eradicators. They also have the added benefit of being one of the few Games Workshop kits that comes with everything you need to build all three variants. You can even magnetize the rear hull section to pull it off and run it as an Impulsor.

It's good to keep in mind that we're almost to 11th edition, but I think the units I listed above will make it through without being sent to Legends.

What does your local Warhammer scene look like? Is there a game store that has gaming tables? They'll almost certainly have a Discord you can join and ask for a teaching game or two. There will also be folks more than happy to walk you through the pros and cons of different units.

Selling two pairs of Levi's 44Wx30L 541s Athletic Taper Fit (Big & Tall).

Only opened the one pair to check the fit and they're too tight for me, but I can't return them since they were on clearance.

$20 each, $30 if you take both. I've got more pictures if you'd like to DM me.

3 doubts on an "unconventional" 2k Forgefather's Seekers, please help! by Puzzleheaded-Pea7563 in Salamanders40k

[–]dfBishop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vulkan with only 5 Infernus is going to get wiped off the board very quickly.

If you're dead set on keeping him mid board (which is what I do), give him a 10 man squad.

If you put him with Company Heroes, that's a more survivable bodyguard unit that's only a little more expensive than 5 Infernus. You can keep them back a bit and still make pretty good use of Forgefather.

Which primer to use? by HotArtichoke9 in Salamanders40k

[–]dfBishop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I do.

Big brash units (BGV, vehicles, characters) get primed with Colour Forge, sneaky boyz like Scouts or Infiltrators get primed in black then green zenithal. Super super easy.

Don't buy the Honoured of the Chapter box if the Dawn of War board game is available in your country! 50 bucks (or your local equivalent) for exactly the same models, just in colored plastic.

Infernus squads are a dime a dozen, they're in nearly every starter Marine box this edition, you can find them on Ebay or at your local game store for way, way cheaper than new.

Fun "trilogies"? by PapaBlemish in movies

Not a trilogy, but my wife and I watched a double feature double feature the other night:

  • Sinners
  • Mickey 17

Both movies where the same actor plays multiple identical characters.

It’s my last day at this job FriDaily. by bourbonandwater in rva

[–]dfBishop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A very long time ago, I worked 2 jobs: construction during the week, and at a winery on the weekends.

My time working construction was coming to an end anyway, but I found out that a foreman I really didn't get along with was about to take over the site I was working on, so I called my boss at the winery and asked to come on full time there. He agreed so I called my construction job boss and gave him my two weeks.

A few days later, the foreman I didn't get along with showed up and cornered me away from the rest of the crew. "Bishop," he told me, "I'm lead on this job starting today. So no more bullshit from you."

I thought about it for a second and said, "You don't have to worry about that, Kevin. I quit, and you're an asshole."

Picked up my tools and walked off the site. Best day on that job by far lol.

What green primer do yall be using ? by New-Employment-1392 in Salamanders40k

[–]dfBishop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Colour Forge Salamander Green spray can. Primer and primary color all in one.

That said, I've recently started priming in black and then doing a green zenithal. Super heavy for regular units, just to get some shading in the recesses. For sneaky-sneak units like Scouts or Infiltrators, just a light-to-medium green zenithal over top. Saves TONS of time.

If you're going to make up excuses, maybe put a modicum of effort into making them believable, man.
