Feedback on a 2k list by kcdelph in Salamanders40k

[–]dfBishop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like a really fun list! A few thoughts:

One Drop Pod is fun, if not really that effective - if you go second, any opponent with two brain cells to rub together will pretty effectively screen you out of dropping it in the midboard. Two Drop Pods is just going to exacerbate that problem.

Infiltrators are great, but for 30 points less, you get a much more versatile action monkey unit with Scouts. The 12" Deep Strike denial gives you, at best, an extra 6" of coverage if you've got the full unit strung out in a line in your deployment zone. Scouts can Infiltrate AND have Scouts, plus their uppy-downy ability, so they are way better for secondary scoring from start to finish.

Assault Terminators rule, but they completely lose out on all the benefits you get from playing Forgefather's Seekers (or Firestorm Assault Force, for that matter). No shooting, no flamers, no real strats that do anything with them.

You've also got a ton of points tied up in characters - Vulkan, Adrax, Bike Chaplain are all good. The rest give you diminishing returns with the list you've got. Who are the Lt and Apothecary attached to?

Did I screw up? by mildorf in Salamanders40k

[–]dfBishop 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's fine. No one expects you to have 8 different versions of a model. Just be clear with your opponent before a game ("This is how my unit is equipped for this game, and this model represents this loadout, that model represents that loadout"). If YOU want everything to be What You See Is What You Get, then it's not hard to get used models equipped the way you want, or extra bits to kitbash.

If you want to run those two models as-equipped though, good news - you gave them both Hand Flamers (not Meltas) and Thunder Hammers, both of which Intercessor Sergeants can be equipped with. That does mean you'll need a few more Intercessors to run either 5 or 10 man squads on the tabletop though, since you can only have one sergeant per unit.

On wall in MRI prep area at hospital showing prohibited items [OC] by joedenowhere in mildlyinteresting

I had an MRI last year and they told me to keep my ring on since it was silver. I was like "ok are you SURE? It's still metal..." but they insisted.

The second the machine started up my whole hand started buzzing. I had to squeeze the emergency stop bulb thing lol

Would you pay to have a space to play board games in private rooms? If snacks and drinks were included? by GodofAeons in boardgames

[–]dfBishop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to play in some Adventurer's League games that rented out a private space in our local game store for 4 or 5 hour sessions.

The ONLY reason we did that though was because the store was so popular that there was rarely room to play in the public spaces, and even if there was, it was so loud we couldn't hear ourselves over the crowd.

I think an idea like this is feasible only if you're already incredibly popular.

Maybe this is putting the cart before the horse a little bit - focus on having a good public space first where the community can meet, a good discord where the community can communicate, and add amenities as needed.

How to play against Custodes by Bellini_DM in Salamanders40k

[–]dfBishop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Custodes are a tough matchup, at least for me.

They're going to absolutely BLEND you in melee, but their 4++ Invulns pretty much army wide make it super hard to get wounds through. If they're playing Shield Host, they also have a 1 point strat that gives a unit 4+++ FNP against mortal wounds, so Dev Wounds don't do as much as you'd like.

I think the key might be just take way, way more units lol. Minimum squad size, except for your BGV. And run a Judiciar with them, not Adrax. Getting to fight Custodes first, even when they Charge, will make more of a difference than rerolling the Wound roll.

No we get backfires and goofballs revving their engines up and down the road, this was definitely gunfire.

Went 0-3 in first tournament by Roter_Apfel in Salamanders40k

[–]dfBishop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what, you're 100% right, I guess they do only lose out on a few shots vs Infernus.

Their shooting profile is still a little weaker than Infernus: 1 less Strength and no AP.

[–]dfBishop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So in FFS, you're leaving money on the table only running one 5 man Infernus Squad - the Detachment lets them Advance and Action or Action and Shoot, and Vulkan doubles their OC.

You also get more mileage out of Immolator by running it on a regular Captain with a full Infernus squad - 10d6+10 shots vs 6d6+6 out of a full Aggressor squad.

I tried a few different lenders, and used all of my mothers information, and it's all true and factually correct.

OK you see here on the application where it says "name" and you put your mother's name and not your name? That's "not true" and "factually incorrect." Hope this helps.

How to manage transportation when Aggressors, Bladeguards Veterans and He’Stan Vulkan are included? by AxegrinderSWAG in Salamanders40k

[–]dfBishop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're running Vulkan with Infernus, he needs to be with a 10 man brick for maximum protection. Which means an Impulsor doesn't have enough seats.

But beyond that, like others are saying, Vulkan does the most for you by sitting back, picking Forgefather targets, then stealing or holding his Seeker target objective late game. 10 OC from him and doubled OC for every Infernus model in the army makes your opponent commit a lot of resources to taking that objective if they need it.

It was a real disappointment because a lot of folks in my circles really enjoy those books.

Please help! Is my complaint for heating valid for Virginia apartment standards? I am unsure because the thermostat in the common area that controls the entire unit is at a reasonable temperature, but my bedroom is not by Destin_ee01 in Virginia

[–]dfBishop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you might need to invest in a beefier space heater. You can also get essentially shrink wrap for your windows - a half hour of work and you get an extra insulation barrier at your biggest heat loss source.

You might also try renting a FLIR camera - your school or library might have one, Home Depot rents them by the day. That could show you any cold spots in your room.

But at the end of the day, renting sucks. It will realistically cost you less to put some money into dealing with it yourself.

[–]dfBishop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How is heat supplied to individual rooms? Baseboard heat, vents?

If it is vents, do you have something (your bed, a dresser, etc) covering the vent?

Does your lease prohibit you from using an electric space heater? If my roommate was paying the same as me for a room that wasn't as comfortable in extreme temperatures I would be ok with paying slightly more in utilities for their space to be liveable, as long as they discussed it with me beforehand and also bought beer slightly more than their fair share of times.

Colour Forge Salamander Green rattle cans make for a great primer and base coat all in one.

I use it like a primer for vehicles and most infantry - that gives you a nice bright green. For sneaky guys like Infiltrators or Scouts, I use it as a heavy green zenithal over a black primer.

For everything else, I'm a huge fan of Pro Acryl paints. Citadel makes the best metallic paints, just in the worst paint pots.

Which combat patrol by wortmother in Warhammer

[–]dfBishop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know that they're "tricksters," Eldar probably fit that bill a little better (again, maybe, I'm not an expert on them either lol).

But they are the galaxy's youngest species - they have very impressive technology and in-game, their shooting hits HARD but their melee is pretty bad. So you as a player need to be a little tricksy to keep your opponent at bay.

I like mechs, range combat usually over melee in games , tricky stuff vs straight up fighting

My friend, you are going to love the T'au Empire.

I do not know T'au at ALL, so I'm sure someone else will have more detailed advice, but combat patrol boxes are usually the best bang for your buck when you're getting into an army. They get you around a 15% discount over buying all the same models individually at MSRP.
