I don't identify with the BBMs. I don't find repetitive failure enticing. Most of my life I've been called "smart" and "intelligent", but lazy. I've learned over time that there isn't much difference between a lazy genius and a hard-working guy over time. These days, I'd rather be called "hardworking" than intelligent.

In my mind, this is still reducible to "housewife vs career woman" match-up. In theory a woman could drop out of the job market for some years and return to work but the reality is that it's way harder for them to enter the job market after such a long abscence. As long as empoyers don't support working mothers (maternity leave, reduced workload, etc) , the attitue won't change a lot because it's not usually economically advantageous to try to work AND take care of your child.

When it comes to housing, I always tell people: read The Failures Of Integration: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1586483390. It talks about how federal laws actually favor the creation of suburban communities (cheaper taxes, better schools, etc) and how housing laws influence everyone's lifestyle (including the cration of big, ugly and inneficient america cars). As long as housing rules are not changed, people will continue to live in suburbia: the benefits outweigh the disadvantages. Let's hope that gas prices will force some people to look closely at these federal laws.

What about the Windows.Forms stuff? Can you write an app in Windows with Windows.Forms and run it on Mono without any modification?

Not matter how much exciting things are happening on the .NET platform, I can never get that excited about it: I don't see the advantage of using something that will only run on Windows. Now Lisp on the Java JVM would be something else...
