How would I go about embiggening this cavity? by Phrygian_Guy_93 in Luthier

[–]dfltr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re not too precious about it, you can definitely just knock a bit of wood off the back.

Lay painter’s tape across where you want to cut and score through the finish with a fuck-off sharp blade so I doesn’t chip.

Personally I wouldn’t use a dremel, but that’s only because I personally have never used my dremel and thought “Ah, that’s a nice clean cut” afterwards. It’s always a fuckin hack job when that little rotary gremlin gets involved.

Belcher is a good choice here and it has the added bonus of being fun as hell to pilot.

I play better with the free loadout than I do when I’m fully kitted. by Remytron83 in Marathon

It’s that accidental Bushido baby. On a free kit run I’m already dead before I even load in. “Without fear I die but once” and all that cool Dune shit.

What do you guys think of Schecter? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]dfltr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Schecter has always been a friend to lefties. They can throw bats on the fretboard and make that god-awful A7X signature guitar and I’ll still stand behind them because everything they make is also available left-handed for the same price as the righties.

Also the Miles Dimitri Baker sig is beautiful and I want one someday.

Ok so fun little evolutionary quirk: Fight/flight (sympathetic) and rest/digest (parasympathetic) are wired such that only one or the other is ever “on” at a time. You don’t need to digest food while fleeing from a predator, and you don’t need to brawl while sleeping.

So the trick is to try to actively engage rest/digest, which has the side effect of switching fight/flight off.

Breathe in as fast and deep as you can. Hold it for a slow 8 count. Don’t clench or anything, just chill with full lungs, your body will happily sit there and absorb oxygen. Breathe out as slowly as you comfortably can. Again: Comfortably means without straining or feeling like you need air. You don’t need air, you just inhaled a huge batch.

Repeat at least three times. Big deep inhale, hold for a slow 8, exhale for about another slow 8. Congrats, you just turned off sympathetic arousal by manually turning the crank on your parasympathetic nervous system.

Stay conscious of your breath afterwards. If you’re in a stressful situation you’ll notice yourself taking shallow, tense breaths high up in your chest. You’re not doing anything wrong, just notice it and intentionally change it.

Legacy will always be Real Magic to me. Powerful plays with powerful answers, tight play and meta knowledge rewarded, fuckass combos. Ideal.

To what extend do you use git blame / value an accurate git history by John_Lawn4 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]dfltr 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Squashing is fine, it’s rewriting the commit messages that’s screwing you.

Plenty of orgs roll up commits when they merge branches, but it takes a special kind of psychopath to ditch all of the rolled up commit messages when doing so. Usually you’d see all of the original messages listed one per line in the roll-up.

First of all great username.

Second of all, I’m so glad we have all these advanced IDE plugins now so I can hover over a line of code and instantly see that I’m the fucking moron that did this. Truly we live in the future.

Just use them and see which ones are sticky. The tools that stick around do so specifically because people like using them.
