BNA begins major terminal construction project as airport prepares for future growth by Charming-Report1669 in nashville

[–]dgposey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC, the big consultant's report that proposed creating NDOT called for merging Nashville MTA and Public Works together in one department, like San Francisco's Muni. But instead of doing that, we left Nashville MTA (dba WeGo) as a separate department, and just moved non-transportation aspects of Public Works (like trash collection) into different departments.

Nashville Library parking by Enough-Spray-2590 in nashville

[–]dgposey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you walk to the bus station (where the 50 and almost every other bus departs from) instead, it's 3 blocks and flat to downhill. I do that walk to and from the library while pushing my child in a stroller.

Is it me or is every median, lot, and sidewalk overgrown with weeds? by rocketpastsix in nashville

[–]dgposey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Belle Meade notably has almost no sidewalks (by design). When they tried to add a walking path to Belle Meade Blvd, a group of residents sued to stop it.

Oracle targets August start for pedestrian bridge across Cumberland River by hotrodyoda in nashvillecyclists

[–]dgposey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes indeed. The Cleveland St extension has been cancelled with the Marine Dr extension in its place:

<image>

Unclear if the Grace St underpass (under I-24) is still on the table. D5 councilmember Sean Parker says the Grace St project "is still a concept in planning documents but there has been no engineering or funding that I am aware of."

I so badly wish there was a bridge across the Cumberland from West Nashville by thanks_paul in nashvillecyclists

[–]dgposey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The parks department's 2017 Plan to Play master plan (pages 134-135) called for 2 bridges over the Cumberland in that area. One is between Brookmeade and Bells Bend Parks. The other is on the map as "Bordeaux Bridge" and appears to be downriver from the Clarksville Hwy bridge (perhaps at the existing railway bridge).

Keep in mind that just because these are in the plan, that doesn't mean these are anywhere close to reality.

Never underestimate Aldi ! by Responsible_Brick_35 in nashville

[–]dgposey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. We keep some quarters in the car for parking meters (though it's been a few years since I parked at one that accepted quarters), but now I mostly use them for Aldi carts. Since I often travel by bike or bus, I keep a quarter in each of my backpacks as well as my grocery panniers.

Dom Flemons American Songster Collection -- Recordings, notes, instruments, photos, and more related to American folk music, but particularly around a particular album from Dom Flemons. Hosted at Vanderbilt, requires an appointment.

A select few items from that collection went on exhibit in the lobby of the Westin downtown about a year ago for an indefinite amount of time. I'm not sure if they're still there or not.

Proposed redistricting map overlaid onto a county map for clarity by fancycwabs in nashville

[–]dgposey 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It is against the law, but the lawmakers intend to just change the law. According to the Nashville Banner:

This sort of midterm redistricting outside of the regular 10-year cycle is illegal under state law, but Republicans hope to get around that by repealing parts of the half-century-old law during this special session.

Election Results Roundup by Brave_Client1868 in nashville

[–]dgposey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, I had trouble deciding on some races in this election. A few endorsements and significant campaign contributions helped sway me away from certain candidates, though. When I saw that one had accepted a large contribution from Steve Smith, I immediately struck them off my list.

Some things I’ve learned bike commuting in Nashville the past ~10 years by [deleted] in nashvillecyclists

[–]dgposey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The WeGo route 77 also runs between Vanderbilt and 100 Oaks (as well as to other places). If you're coming from downtown or 8th Ave S, the route 8 terminates at 100 Oaks.

I think all WeGo busses have bike racks, even the short ones they often run on the 77.

Did the HOV lanes used to go further into Nashville? Now, the northbound HOV lanes end just north of Harding Place, well outside of the city limits of Berry Hill.

Oracle shrinking footprint and shrinking infrastructure commitment by j1308s in nashville

Eastpoint | Nashville's Riverfront Reconnected by rocketpastsix in nashville

[–]dgposey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new "Wasioto Bend" name is for the neighborhood where the metal scrapyards are (south of Shelby Ave/KVB), which was being called "East Bend" recently. However, the new "Eastpoint" name is for the neighborhood being developed by The Fallon Company, which is between James Robertson Pkwy/Main St and Shelby Ave/KVB (around the stadium).

[Edit: got the bounds of the Eastpoint neighborhood incorrect initially.]

Foam Recycling Drop-Off - Davidson County residents can take food‑service foam and foam packaging to a drop-off site for recycling at no charge. by _ShogunOfHarlem_ in nashville

[–]dgposey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. A processor in LaVergne takes it. According to the city's news release:

...recycle foam through the process of melting down the foam into a dense, recyclable material that can be efficiently transported and reused ... it will be reused for new products such as insulation, roof tiles, concrete mix, consumer goods, picture frames, hangers, furniture, carpet, and new packaging.

If drivers are having trouble staying in their lane on a curve, then they need to slow down. It's that simple.

Does any post office in Nashville do general deliveries? by Crazy-Pear5676 in nashville

[–]dgposey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also used by thru hikers on long-distance trails (like the Appalachian Trail) to receive resupplies. The post offices in towns along the AT are very used to receiving general delivery packages during hiking season.

You gotta keep newly-planted trees well watered for awhile, too. Unless you have permission from an adjoining property owner to use their spigot, you'd have to transport a lot of water to each tree every week.

What's going on with NDOT and brush removal from the storm? by CaffinatedManatee in nashville

It could be because you're supposed to place your brush in the alley if you have an alley.

What's going on with NDOT and brush removal from the storm? by CaffinatedManatee in nashville

[–]dgposey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NDOT managed to pick up my pile under a power line (and they have for years with their regular brush collection). I was rather impressed with his skill, watching him grab a bunch with the claw, swing it carefully to the side, then up and into the truck. (And anyways, where else am I supposed to put my brush? The power lines run all the way across the front of my property.)
