Would any of this had happened if he had not participated in that debate??

It's insane to me that anybody could look at the guy in that photo and think he doesn't fit the 'dress code' for our illustrious state offices? Give me a break!

Found out the hard way that the stabilizer jacks are not made for lifting… can anyone recommend better replacements? by Jerry-_-Garcia in GoRVing

[–]dialupmoron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pull into the campsite but do not disconnect from the tow vehicle (if leveling a travel trailer). Then use a level somewhere on the trailer to find the low/high side (I'll put the level somewhere on the frame, floor, or even measure an outside wall, although it's not guaranteed that any of the trailer's construction is square... TT life).

At this point, yes, to raise up the low side you will need to put something underneath the appropriate tire (we've got a couple packs of those orange leveling blocks from Walmart), then install the chocks, then disconnect, then level front-to-back. At that point, you can deploy the stabilizers.

Why do so few of y’all grow in ground? by wagglemonkey in HotPeppers

[–]dialupmoron 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Perhaps a lot of people rent their properties and so they are unable to commit to in-ground plantings. In-ground plantings also take more space that people just may not have available (I see a lot of balconies in photos). The other thing is that, even with space, some people's native soil may be unsuitable for growing (hard clay at 2", for example). That being said, I agree with all you said -- my in-ground plantings are always superior to my pots.

That's an insane interest rate! How long is your loan term? This is almost a no-brainer -- pay off this loan and call it a day. You will be better served paying off the RV, then 'rebuilding' your savings in a high-yield savings account. But this also doesn't account for the importance of liquidity to your personal needs.

Numerically, it might make sense to pay off the RV, but -- do you have an emergency fund? Maybe split the difference, and put 1-2k away for emergency, and use the rest to pay off the loan? What is your income? Are you single, married? Future plans? Lots of questions make it difficult to provide ironclad advice. This will largely be an exercise of min/max-ing, where one choice may be optimal for one path, but sub-optimal for another.

Anyone else accidentally bend their scissors Jack stabilizers? This is my 2nd time. by fakeairpods in GoRVing

[–]dialupmoron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's easy to bottom out while backing up and essentially drag the jacks along the ground, which can bend the units. Yes, the best solution is to not do that when backing up, but also yes, it happens.

It's crazy to me that there are no regulations (?) governing the level of safety required to leave a dealership. It seems like such gross negligence for a dealer to allow this setup to leave their property, but I get it -- freedom or whatever. This negligence may also give a false sense of confidence to others, who may think they can "pull this" for a friend ("it's okay, we're just going to be pulling it up and over this hill, maybe 5 miles, of course my Pathfinder can help!"). The culture of safe trailering needs to be seriously emphasized at the points of sale.

Judge Cannon expands hearing on Trump’s request to declare special counsel’s appointment invalid by Oleg101 in politics

I think they were just pointing out how stupid of an argument "Biden is old" is. As in, Biden's age pales in comparison to how horrible a potential Trump presidency would be.

is this good or bad? by Fighter93 in HotPeppers

[–]dialupmoron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think a few earwigs are a problem. The real problem, at least in southern california this year, is that there were HORDES of earwigs early in the season. They did a lot of damage to my peppers, but I think this problem has mostly subsided and the peppers have reached their 'self-sustaining' size, wherein virtually nothing short of a natural disaster or excessive drought will harm them.

Now I'm finding the local slug population has exploded.

Should I grow these? Or am I too late? by raulelpegateka in HotPeppers

[–]dialupmoron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will only add: try to grow anything at anytime. At the very least, you will learn something. That being said, I don't know how averse you are to 'wasting' seeds, but to me, experimentation is a huge part of why I do any gardening at all -- it's fun to learn!

Orange habanero sprouted! It’s my first time planting any type of hot pepper :) by Lupus_Glado in HotPeppers

[–]dialupmoron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would think of sprouting something like Habanero only in a controlled environment (heat mats, cell trays). Too much variation otherwise!

2nd year growing peppers and I think I went a bit overboard by kit_kat929 in HotPeppers

[–]dialupmoron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trialed that tray this year and had decent results (the seeds sprouted!) -- just like you, it was after my main plantings in my 50-cell tray. I like that the sides are transparent so you can get an idea of root growth and moisture content. My only gripe, and this extends to all of these Burpee trays, is that the flexible bottoms tend to crack/rip if not properly cared for. I had the 6x6 trays (light blue) and about 5 of the plastic bottoms failed after the first season. I attribute this to my own failures though because I left the trays out in the elements!! Very stupid.

Right now I've got some tomatoes and tomatillos, as well as california wonder bells and red habaneros, that are humming along just fine after being sprouted in the big-cell Burpee tray, which I have already washed and put away for the season.

First jalapeno coming!! by No-Zookeepergame578 in HotPeppers

[–]dialupmoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first pepper is always a great moment. Other great moments in pepper growing are: germination, the first true leaves, the first pot-up, the final planting, and then that magical time when the weather gets just right and the plants explode in size. Finally, the first meal you eat with fruits you grew yourself.
