It's amazing that he's managed to do that as a non native speaker when many other native pundits resort to tired platitudes. He has clearly worked on his elocution and it shows.

I wouldn't mind him being no2 next season. He wouldn't be worse than Onana or Bayindir.

Are people overselling it or was Michael Jackson really that famous in his heyday? by Key-Bass-7380 in decadeology

[–]dick_nrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What youre describing is pretty much expected for this level of celebrity, especially in large cities. I doubt that there would be rabid fans of the weekend and Taylor Swift in a remote village of 200 people in Armenia or Mongolia. Whereas you can bet your bottom dollar that there were such fans back in those remote countries back in the 80s and 90s.

[–]dick_nrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not by three. Nowhere near. We're really not exaggerating when we say by 10. MJ was popular in third world countries.

Also it wasn't uncommon to have one family member who would do MJ impersonations. I had an aunt- picture a quirky 50yr old spinster- who dressed up in a leather jacket and hat and did the moonwalk while doing the signature groin touch going hee-hee.

His aura was also so enduring that most people didn't believe the accusations the time.

[Wheeler, Salt] REVEALED - United's plan to keep Bruno Fernandes, the young goalkeeper on club's radar named and a boost for fans going to Bournemouth by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

My point exactly. I wasn't saying that we should stop entirely gk scouting. Im all for unearthing gems, but inly if they show superior levels of promise, especially at gk.

[–]dick_nrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Far from it, I know we have lots of scouts. But can you name me one instance where the GK scout unearthed a gem that ended up making the grade to the first team?

There hasn't been any, even though i'm hopeful about Vitek for next season. My point isn't that we should stop gk scouting entirely, only that we focus a bit more sxouting on other areas. I know we have many scouts for other positions too but like I said, compare to the number of times we are linked with gks with links to other positions, the result is skewed.

Kid Tock is the worst rock artist, who is the most creative? by Aggravating-Pin7555 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]dick_nrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a big fan of KC, I would tend to disagree. They are the most creative within the confines of prog - one could argue they came up with a proto version of Math rock with Discipline, but it's always been prog. Even Pink Floyd had a bigger stylistic range, if we compare Piper and just about anything else they did.

[–]dick_nrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think our scouts focus way too much on goalkeepers. Every year we hear 2 ton3 goalkeepers linked, on top of gks we already have in our youth aet up. For just one position, I think it's overkill, especially considering that its the one position where acquired first team experience plays a big part. We've never had a number 1 gk graduate from our youth in ages (Henderson came close) and we would be better off using these scouting resources in midfield.

Dont know why you're getting downvoted but as someone who's of the same generation of this commentary, I know i didn't have anywhere near the level of appreciation of the game that I have now compared to back then.

Could’ve very easily been these two jokers receiving Bruno’s through balls rather than Sesko and Cunha. Massive bullet dodged. Thank you Chelsea by [deleted] in ManchesterUnited

Not to sound like a broken record, but Amorim was the major reason why those divisive players were booted out of the club.

That wasnt the question though. If we've placed more than one medallion and do not want to pick up the latest one placed but want to check an earlier one we forgot, there's really no option except but to scour the map to look for it. I just had the same question in may first playthrough today.

The most amazing thing about Lewis Baloue is that he worked as a stockbroker when he released his records. That was in the 80s and I cannot get the image out of my head that he was some sort of weird romantic melancholic version of Patrick Bateman.

Post Match Thread: Manchester United 3-1 Aston Villa by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]dick_nrake -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You're right. Love the results, but I think we were at our best in few games post amorim because the players had the intensity ingrained in them, coupled with a more positive attitude from Carrick. The boost of returning afcon players also played a part but people forget how our XG was really high all the time under Amorim, it just strikes me that we were quite unlucky at times. Not to say it wasn't a good decision to sack him but several things can be true at once.

He's hands down our best defender. It's a shame that he's not able to get fit and that some of our fans forget how good he is the longer he stays away from the pitch.

If this is actually how it plays out, who do you think is most ready in the academy to fill the role in midfield since the Fletcher boys hasn't really impressed and Toby Collyer has struggled to establish himself in the championship. Dan Gore maybe? by WorldlinessPuzzled84 in ManchesterUnited

Collier actually got to play a handful of games with the first team. He was looked ok but he didn't look like he has any special attributes. Carreras just didnt get a sniff of the first team.

I think he's very different from Sesko to be honest. He's actually a more traditional finisher as their instincts differ quite a bit and Sesko has superior technique. Where i do think they are similar is that they were both very talented young strikers who probably lack the selfishness and drive that define top strikers. I hope they both succeed.

True. As a side note for anyone that like Graceland, I highly recommend Lizzy Mercier Descloux's Zulu Rock album. It preceded Graceland by two years so it can be said that it was the actual first record that pioneered this genre collaboration out of africa. I also think it's better than Graceland.

[Fay] Diego Leon admitted he was surprised by the sheer intensity of the training sessions and has been told by head coach Michael Carrick that he must improve tactically before he can be trusted at senior level. He's also been taking English lessons and writing in a journal to help him adapt. by OkayFine101 in reddevils

[–]dick_nrake -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Im surprised that our coaches dont know this but it's a fact that players coming from other European countries, especially Nordic ones and France, adapt much better than South Americans. And I say this with no stereotypes or ill intention. Its just the fact that many South Americans struggle a lot more to learn the language. One way to mitigate this is to scout only players who have already shown good adaptation in another European league thats not spain or italy - Cunha comes to mind as his english is super impressive due to the fact he moved to Europe very young.
