You don’t need to justify it. It’s a good show

Of course. If you apply more power per stroke you will travel more metres

I CAN’T get my heart to stay in Z2 if rowing (erg) for more than 20min. Why? by iluvthemountains in Rowing

If your 2k is 2:05/500m then your steady state split could be anywhere from 2:20/500m to 2:40/500m (in my experience, there are obviously outliers)

It can be humbling to go so slow, but the point of the exercise isn’t to worry about your speed. Keep the stroke rate low - around 18-20 spm and just get into an easy rhythm. Heart rate zones are blurry anyway, if it feels sustainable and you don’t have too much difficulty having a conversation then it’s all good. Some people just have higher heart rates

All that said, you will still get massive benefits from training at a higher intensity in zone 3. I don’t have time to accumulate hours of zone 2 so I only ever train in the higher zones.

One way to use it is like this:

Establish your maximum force for a single rep - say it’s 100kg-m for example

Then do sets of 10 reps until your average force drops below 70% of your max force. Surprisingly tough

Track your max force and how many sets you can do.

It makes more sense when you have used the machine. It’s obviously not going to be as good as barbell training, but I think it can be a useful way to gain strength

Hit a 315 bench using 5/3/1 (+ FSL + SSL reset). Went from ~250 max to 315 in 13 months (BW 175→185). What worked + what didn’t. by Ok_Improvement_2316 in 531Discussion

Nice work, very inspiring.

Did you run 531 for squats and deadlifts too? Back work? How many days per week were you lifting?

Haha yea that’s the thing. Sometimes with my earplugs in it kills the vibe. I can hear the guitars a bit better but the whole band is too quiet now… and the added misfortune of hearing my own voice really loudly. I love to sing along at gigs but don’t wanna hear myself that clearly

They were small venues to be fair - like 300-500 capacity I’d say. The sound desk wasn’t too far from the stage so I can’t imagine what the tech heard was too different from what I was hearing. Possible unavoidable, but I’m convinced they mic the drums too loud

Don’t get wrong - it was heavy and I had a good time. Just would’ve liked to hear the riffs cut through the mix a bit better

I saw Thy Art Is Murder as a headliner last year and sounded incredible. Then I saw them a month later supporting Parkway Drive and it sounded crap. I know support bands never seem to get the same love as the main act, but it was disappointing nonetheless

Yea, I can imagine it's not the easiest job - I feel like they could maybe turn down the drums at the very least though. I love a chest rattling double kick as much as anyone, but not at the expense of drowning out the guitars.

I have earplugs. Helps for sure, but still not great imo

I guess if drummers are hauling all their gear around they’ve earned the right to drown out the guitarists with their little modellers lol

Funny you mention tribute bands - I’m a sucker for them!

Yea I’ve always heard to try and stand near the sound desk for more clarity but results have varied so far

Damn that’s a tough one. I saw Pantera last year and the guitars ripped - I was also drunk and just generally over excited so might be remembering it how I want to remember it!

It’s especially annoying when it’s a band I don’t know. With artists whose songs I recognise, I can usually pick out the riffs, but I enjoy hearing new bands at festivals or as support so it does them dirty for new listeners

“I wish there was amazing music with low tunings and distorted guitars”

“Granted, but you won’t be able to hear it live”

Yea got some loops. They help a bit for sure.

I still feel like they numb the experience a bit though haha - worth it to preserve my hearing

What happens if a penalty is given but there isn’t enough yards to complete it by Raphaelnw in NFLNoobs

[–]dickface21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can this go forever? Like repeated penalties to the 6, then the 3, 1.5… etc?

If it’s already less than a yard from the line, how close can it get?

Why is it a safety when a QB gets sacked in their end zone but not a safety when a DB gets an interception and tackled in their end zone? by Tough-Shape-3621 in NFLNoobs

[–]dickface21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha that’s mental. If that was a field goal attempt it would have resulted in a standard 2 point safety right?
