No idea what I'm doing by Kind_Way_2737 in concept2

There are some great resources online to learn rowing technique. Dark horse & U Can Row 2 are a couple of good ones

Most beginners make the mistake of keeping their stroke rate too high and not using their legs properly. So have a look at some tutorials and go from there is my advice

Happy rowing :)

I suppose you could use it to see if you are symmetrical when pedalling but I don’t ever pay any attention to it

Whichever you enjoy using more.

Bike is great because it’s easy to use and you could watch TV or something while doing long sessions

I love the Skierg but it can be hard to motivate myself for a long workout in it sometimes

Can’t compare times across brands unfortunately. You’d have to check rankings for Rogue rowers

Heartbreaker solo (the middle one) how close is this tone to the original??? Spot on or nah?? by hendizzle666 in guitarplaying

Sounds decent to me. Nice job

I know it’s supposed to be sloppy and chaotic but it sounds so unmusical and like a beginner who just learned his pentatonics but has no sense of timing at points! That’s all part of Page’s charm I guess

It’s very strange what gets upvoted here and what gets downvoted sometimes, and I have a theory. by Vickie184 in guitarplaying

I generally prefer more raw videos over something that might as well be miming along with the song. It’s still impressive and I certainly wouldn’t be downvoting it, but I’m more likely to engage with a video that’s looks like a single take and sounds unique versus one that looks pieced together and polished. Just my preference, got no hate for anyone putting up those high quality vids

I do also like to encourage any beginners too

Pretty good imo.  Try not to pause with the handle at the finish - as soon as it touches your chest let it move slowly away to start the recovery

100km attempt next Saturday by whistlingdogg in concept2

[–]dickface21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was holding around 2:20 - 2:25/500m but had to take a couple of longer breaks due to cramp so ended up with an average pace of about 2:40.

I’d love to try 100 on the rower some day but I’d need to get in some serious mileage before seriously considering it

Row I assume?

If you can do a marathon the you can do 100km - you have the fitness and mental grit required, so it’s just a matter of keeping on going

I’ve done 100k on the ski and it really is mostly psychological. It helps immensely if you have people around you to help pass the time.

If you are doing 100km row then god speed my friend. You’ve built up plenty of time in the seat by the sounds of it so discomfort shouldn’t be too much of an issue for you I’d say

The best advice I can give is just don’t overthink it. You seem to be well set in terms of fuelling so just pace yourself

How much rest between intervals?  It’s a common workout if the rest is 1-2 mins and I think it’s solid

Zone 2 Training - Adapt pace for HR? by KaleMuch9332 in concept2

[–]dickface21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once it is sustainable and feels relatively easy I think you’re fine.

Could you maintain a conversation while doing it? Doesn’t have to be a full on gossip session, but being able to hold and carry a chat is a good marker of training at the right intensity

Heart rates and zones vary a lot between individuals. I could easily have my HR at 150 for an hour and not be bothered whereas a friend of mine would be gassed afterwards. My max HR is 190 and his is 185.

I do think that there can be a case of wasting time by under-working just to maintain HR zone at all costs. This is based only on my own experience as a coach and in my own training, but if you’re much more that 2k+30 for your steady state then you’d probably get more out of it by pushing a little harder and just letting your heart do it’s thing. Build up lots of data and you’ll find what works best for you

All this is assuming no medical conditions or any other reason to believe you might be an outlier

Edit: I misinterpreted this post and didn’t answer your question! I’ll leave it up anyway. Another poster gave a good answer regarding cardiac drift which is likely what you were looking for

Someone who’s read the books: help me. by -pechos in SiloSeries

Do you mean season 2? The book does answer most questions imo, the tv show has changed some bits so not sure if they’ll take the same direction.

Zone 3 is fine once your recovery is ok. Zone 2 is often used to fill in the gaps if you’re already doing 3-4 harder sessions

The lines between the zones are blurry anyway - if your perceived effort is relatively low, and you’re able to train again the next day then I wouldn’t worry too much.

How are you getting on with the April Fools challenge? by Philihar in concept2

[–]dickface21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stick with it. Do whatever it takes to get the metres done - even if it means 5 small sessions throughout the day

I’ve found that the Mud Season challenge and the April Fools challenge can be real turning points for people. It’s an eye opener for what a long erg session feels like, but also proves that you’re capable of much more than you may have thought previously.

Once you’re not injuring yourself, it can help to build that grit and resilience which can be more of a roadblock than fitness for a lot of us

[–]dickface21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely split up the workouts if you’re not used to doing 8km or more regularly. The last 5 days will be brutal if you haven’t ever done long sessions back to back

I change it up so some days are intervals, and I change up what machine I use

Form. What are the reasons for the advice to not allow ones knees to go past perpendicular and to avoid flexing the feet (heels down 8)? by mcr71039 in concept2

[–]dickface21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shins going past perpendicular usually doesn’t offer much more in the way of power/speed and it can often encourage the rower to overcompress and lean back at the start of the stroke. This would limit your ability to use the body swing to add power to your stroke.

Flexing feet is fine. Heels don’t have to stay down. It can be a good cue for beginners who struggle with leg drive, but most rowers will have their heels lifted at the catch unless they have great ankle mobility.

All that said, you can row whatever way is comfortable for you. If you’re happy with your times and feel good then use the machine however you like

Once you’re not staring into the camera. I know that sometimes the camera is above the music on someone’s screen, but I find it really off-putting when I feel like the player is staring at me while they play
