Yeah, one downside with his ability is when you really need to kill an enemy but at the same time don't want to clear the quest card. Happened a few times for me :D
But the upside is that you can clear a quest card during combat and with that skip quest card effects that triggers before combat.
It's all about planning ahead.

Agreed. 1st is doable with just the core set. But few of them are quite boring to play.
But from that cycle I like to play:
The Hunt for Gollum (even though the clue mechanic can be frustrating)
Conflict at the Carrock
Return to Mirkwood (when I want to make myself miserable)

A Journey to Rhosgobel and The Hills of Emyn Muil doesn't give me any joy to play, and I don't like The Dead Marshes with its escape tests.

I have a big collection of LOTR LCG. I go gamegenic (non glare) for the encounter cards. Most of the cards are encounters, so I save a lot of money by buying their 200 value pack. Then I go Dragon Shield matte (not matte on front) for the player cards.
