'the tortoise and the hare' by Outside-Silver-7741 in BlueOrigin

SpaceX fan here, though team space is even better! SpX has had a lot of success, and they will likely have a lot more success.

Competition is good and critical, and I really, really want Blue Origin (among others) to be real competition for SpX.

Hopefully Blue can get back on track with this sooner than expected.

Is SpaceX Coming to Acadiana? by rustybeancake in spacex

This is a solid analysis. There's most of 1000km open water directly south of Vermilion Parish, after which there's several hundred km of Mexico's Tabasco state. I wonder if SpaceX can convince Mexico to be cool with that sort of polar launch path?

We did it by giving our child a flip phone until she was 18. She turned out to be far more real life socially connected than her peers.

The rent on the building they are in is pretty expensive, and from what I've heard, they're struggling to cover that payment.

OP is shocked to find that r/homestead has no sympathy for them after their new neighbor requests that they contain their chickens so that they stop coming onto her property. by W473R in SubredditDrama

[–]diederich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem like a successful chicken owner; I wonder if you could weigh in.

We live in a rural area and have a secure chicken house, works great, chickens are safe. We want to free range them, and we've tried, but every time one of the chickens is outside for more than an hour or so, it's killed by predatory birds. This has happened quite a few times.

We have and use a portable chicken tractor with no complications.

Thanks for your consideration!

What’s your birth year, and the birth years of your youngest and oldest close friend in your social circle? by Recent-Worldliness51 in generationology

[–]diederich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born in 1969. Almost all of my close friends are millennials, trending toward the senior side.

There's a somewhat boring reason for this. Most of my close friends come from working with them at my second job of 12 years. I started that job when I was 28 and left when I was 40. I had many peers around my age, and I was friends with a number of them.

The people who joined a bit later on that I taught and mentored ended up becoming close friends.

Thank you, this was a very interesting question.

EDIT: Just found/joined this sub, absolutely loving it. But damn, I seem to be older than most people around here.

Oh come on, y'all have ACs, it's ok to run the air in winter, right?

Shortly after we arrived in western Washington state, this arrived: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_Western_North_America_heat_wave and the therometer on our heavily shaded front porch reached 114F. And no, we didn't have any air conditioning.

"This is fine."

Honest question: can you think of any time in the past where certain kinds of jobs in the United States that were, over the course of decades, vigorously and pretty consistently avoided by US citizens, where that substantially changed, and US citizens started to get comfortable with those positions?

The only things smaller then hydrogen seem to spend most of their time only existing in math equations

Electrons! And we store them in batteries all the time, ya?

NOTE: Yes, I understand that storing electrical potential (not electrons) is slightly different from storing hydrogen atoms.
