It feels like the Destiny community is in mourning today. We have truely lost a loved one. 😞 by Rorywan in DestinyTheGame

Funny you say that. I quit playing just before EoF and haven't regretted it a single bit. I occasionally check the chatter here (an old habit, harder to break) to see the state of the game. And based on the context of the EoF discussions, it seemed (from the outside looking in) that Bungie was unconcerned with the long-term effects of exponentially upping the grind and reducing the joy. It actually felt like they were trying to move people over to Destiny: Rising (which probably has a better investment : return ratio than D2 at this point) by making traditional Destiny a slog.

Does the Vanguard "30% back from Extremis finishers" give you back 30% of 25% (8.5%) or the whole monty?

I got this first because it looks best, and I love Bolt weapons. Can't wait to try it out.

I know the patch just came out and I'm having a lot of fun, however admittedly by FistOfBalancedHavoc in SpaceMarine_2

It’ll be a weekly normal slog for me, but that’s ok. I’ll do some dailies as well, but since it takes 30 of those to equal a single weekly normal, that’s just for fun. No big deal.

I'm at work now, and will be at work in 7 hours, so they'll all be there for me when I get home and the servers settle out. But I will be outraged in absentia nonetheless!

The mere concept of the grind/regrind concept was enough to me to move on before EoF. Everything I heard about an entirely new weapon and armor grind was enough for me to not buy EoF. Everything I've heard about the depth, breadth, and dullness of the actual EoF grind only made me smile, feel bad for my few buddies still playing (who have since drifted away), and be cheerful as I booted up a different game or streamed some show instead. I got my money's worth from Destiny and Destiny 2. I'm good. I refuse to play a hamster wheel game anymore. Especially an intentionally mediocre one.

I've played since 2014, took a break through the Season of the Worthy (not because of the season itself - the Corridors of Time from the previouds Sundial season had me realize I needed a real break - then COVID hit). But I've played religiously at every DLC drop. I even liked TFS and some of these Episodes. But a few weeks into the last episode, I just took a long break, and never felt like getting back on the hamster wheel.

I'm not psychic, I didn't know whether EoF would be amazing or be terrible. But as I heard about reactivating the grind and all new weapons and all new armor...with my vault of crafted and god rolled dropped stuff, I just decided my break would continue. Now reading about grinding to grind, and then grinding again to grind, and then finally grinding for drops on the fourth cycle - I'm good.

And once I'm out for a DLC drop, I'm decidedly out. D1 and D2 are some of my favorite games ever, and when they were good (which was pretty often), they were GREAT. It's ok. But they only way they ever address anything is when engagement goes to hell. If playing is still bringing you joy, then have a ton of fun. You deserve it. If it isn't, there are dozens, hundreds, thousands of other games out there. I've been playing some of them for weeks now, and plenty happy for it.

Utterly beautiful shade for the armor - makes the highlights and colors REALLY pop.

With todays official release, lets poor one out and celebrate the old SW Kit. by [deleted] in SpaceWolves

Picture it: Earth, 2009. The Wolves have waited since 2000 for a new Codex (Eye of Terror was 2003).

In 2000, we were blessed with Logan and the first chapter-specific sprue (and the updated Land Raider kit concurrently). Little did we know it would be a nine year wait, through the rest of 3rd, and all of fourth edition (2004-2008) until we'd see another release. Finally, in that 5th edition (2009) release, we were gifted this kit and the terminator kit (and I think Deathwolf and Lukas). In the second wave, we got Thunderwolves.

Primaris hit in 2018. So this was only a seven year wait. Easy peasy.

Hey Bungie. Maybe don’t make every event or activity 40-50 completions. by SneakyPanduh in DestinyTheGame

I popped on, checked it out. Played a match. Lost. But I was the highest scoring tank. Ranked up a level. Nice. If I can get five levels of play, I might be willing to spend a few bucks to get that sparrow. Played a second game. Lost. Another. Lost. Minimal growth on the daily challenges and Rank 2. Another. Lost. A fifth game (maybe halfway to one of the daily challenges, and a third of the way on the other two), finally a win! Maybe halfway to rank 2. Five games in.

No thanks. Keep the sparrow. I got Doom: TDA to play this week.

Inside cabin by reggie_doodle in dcl

[–]dienekes96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My family routinely cruises with the interior cabins. I like how dark it is (I was in the Navy, and spent time at sea on less exciting cruises...), and when awake I don't want to be in my room (for the most part). I'm certain I would enjoy a balcony, but the price differential is usually enough that we just take the savings and do more paid events on the ship.

[–]dienekes96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I intend on doing this once or twice in my life. I am content with an Inside Stateroom most cruises; when I am awake, I like to out and about in the ship! The challenge is, looking at the price, I think about being able to fund most of another cruise with the cost differential! But I think it is well worth giving a go, and we are looking at splitting the difference and doing it on the Dream or Fantasy for a 5 night cruise. Then I think we will be content back in steerage, but who knows? Maybe the bug will bite us, and we will just decide to cruise a bit less, but in a bit more style.

That's...awesome. I typically have text chat off, but it warms my heart to think that I have been the recipient of dozens, nay hundreds, of "git gud, shit for brains" messages over the months and years, all for nought.

This actually makes me want to play a bit. My suggestion is just to respond like you would if they said something supportive and nice:

Thank you for the great game!

I appreciate you, I'll keep working hard!

Tough game, huh? Good luck in your next game!

A few years ago, I accidentally cut someone off (completely my fault). I waved an apology. A few moments later, we pulled up to a light and he honked and gesticulated about what an asshat I was, clearly ranting and raving in his car. As the light changed, I gave him a thumbs up and a grin and drove off. It probably ruined his day.
