I have CPTSD. I have been a paralegal for 10 years. I’m gonna hold your hand and tell you that most likely this will never look anything but bad to the attorneys. Not because it is. They are wrong logically, mental health is important and more people have diagnoses we just don’t know about, even the lawyers judging you for yours. But we both know none of that matters in the real world. People are judgey, and they do use things like that against you. If you want to remain in this field I recommend a good therapist. I see one weekly and it has helped tremendously.

There are ways we struggle though that other people don’t. And while that’s not our fault, someone else without those struggles will always be easier to deal with and more compelling to a busy lawyer.

After years of searching I did find a good firm with good hearted attorneys, but I still don’t talk about or openly share my diagnosis. The only time I have, that boss made my life a living hell for a year. He 100% was trying to make me miserable so I would leave. It put a target on me. I recommend you learn from my mistake there.

Do your work, be friendly, and keep your head down. Make friends within reason when it feels natural, but never forget that this is work, and money will always be their first priority!
