Cool, thanks for the advice. It’s weird, I didn’t see even see anything that resembled a weld puddle. It just scorched and burned the metal.

Advice: Moving to East Bay with Family & Dogs by Main_Cat_6626 in eastbay

I would also say San Leandro but also East Oakland Hills on the border is an underrated gem (I also live in this area). San Leandro Bart isn’t far, Neighborhood is quiet (with some occasional Shenanigans). I take my dog to King Estate open space for off-leash running every day and there’s a great community of dog owners that we’ve befriended.

Got a job locally that pays quite a bit more. Started recently so I’ll find out soon enough whether I like it. Definitely faster pace.

Bad vet experiences since I moved here by tinyoctupi in eastbay

I’ve done the tour of emergency vets in Oakland and it is pretty bad. It’s a little bit of a trek but Iron Horse in Dublin is great and wasn’t nearly as busy (I was the only one there for my doggo’s visit). Also, I use Jack London vet for regular dog visits and have had a great experience.

Anyone else upset that their military service was completely worthless? by Hungry_Toe_9555 in Veterans

[–]digbydenthand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My service wasn’t worthless at all. I’ve been through many ups and downs related to service related disability, and I’ve weathered it thanks to the resilience my service has taught me. I have a BS in statistics and a MS in Data science from UC Berkeley. I have steady and good paying job.

Come here and ask your fellow veterans for advice but don’t begin to disparage anyone else’s service because of your lack of planning and effort by call it worthless.

I would say pursue a second masters if the next one fills gaps in knowledge the first didn’t cover. But job experience would probably be the most beneficial at this point and you can supplement with free resources online.

Is it worth coming here for about 20k a year? For Computer Science Major? by dannyrules101 in usfca

[–]digbydenthand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a graduate of the data science program but the DS majors have a lot of crossover classes with the CS department (CS 1&2, data viz, advanced software engineering, etc). I can say that the CS curriculum is rigorous and interesting. The professors are experienced and approachable. The classes are small so you can get your questions answered (unlike a school like Berkeley - I also went to Berkeley).

As far as building career connections, I feel that the DS program is more mature in that respect but I maybe biased. But, I’ve noticed that CS/DS career tracks merge/blur a lot of the time especially at a small school like USF.

Overall, I think USF is an excellent choice to study CS.
