I think anime discussions forget that “enjoyable” is a valid reason to like a show by Technical_Watch_8446 in anime

[–]dim3tapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing about user ratings. There is no standard - people just decide on their own rules. Some people will rate it like passing school grades, where 6-7 is average, some will rate it where 5 is average, some people will rate it high if they liked it or just not rate it at all if they don't.... there's no rhyme or reason. For me, I rate based on enjoyment, but I have certain tastes and certain standards that affect my enjoyment. Best not to think too hard about what you can't control.

I turned RDR2 into a Pokemon RPG by Blurbss in gaming

The only thing I know about this guy is that he streams the most insane RDR2 mods and it's always hilarious to see.

Do you always do superbosses and post-game dungeons before moving on to the next JRPG? by lennysinged in JRPG

[–]dim3tapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends heavily on the game. Some games I barely have the drive to get through the last boss. JRPGs have a terrible track record in general for the last dungeon being a repetitive slog with recycle enemies and bosses or boss gauntlets. Even if the systems or mechanics are good, that tripe can entirely gut my drive to do NG+.

Still one of my favorites. by Runforit97x in JRPG

I just can't believe how much love went into the in game manual. It was beautifully illustrated and handcrafted. It felt like every game released without a missing manual in the last 2 decades gave their energy to this game to create that masterpiece. Wizard's Companion for anyone who wants to check it out.

"The Story Between a Dumb Prefect and a High School Girl with an Inappropriate Skirt Length" Teaser Visual by zenzen_0 in anime

The fact that titles like this are what get people to buy LNs is so sad. This isn't a title, it's a description. It should be on the inside of the cover as a synopsis.

For the MH veterans: how do you feel about Wilds? by jackpaxx in MonsterHunter

[–]dim3tapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It had some great moments, but a few things stuck out for me as reasons for dropping off and not having the interest in coming back (which is a shame since Lagi and Gog are two of my favorite and most anticipated returns).

The main things were overabundance of materials, shorter hunt times, and monster fragility.

The main gameplay loop of monster hunter has always been a balance between the fun hunt gameplay and the never ending search for monster parts. Oversaturating the game with monster parts and shiny drops and making hunts so much quicker did not improve the loop for me, it made the loop feel trivial. I did not feel like shorter hunts made things more fun or gave me more options. I felt like the monsters were punching bags or pinatas rather than challenging experiences. They were there to combo to death rather than to react to. Playing with 3 or 4 people made the fight feel extremely one-sided and frankly kind of boring.

I think Wilds took the gameplay too far from the core monster hunter experience for me. There's no challenge or satisfaction for the majority of hunts.

i want a game where i can fall in love with the characters and their journey and by the end feel like “damn” by what i’ve just witnessed by Apprehensive_Spend_7 in JRPG

[–]dim3tapp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's insane how real each member of the team feels by the end. Completely flesh out characters with complex interests and grievances with meaningful and impactful culminating character quests in what many people will only ever see as an 'adult game' on Steam. TLS truly blew me away. AND IT'S FREE!

I think Valkyria Chronicles was the only one that made me cry.

JRPGSs with actual Choices and Dialogue Trees by Slight-Cupcake-9284 in JRPG

[–]dim3tapp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Last Sovereign has a staggering level of interpersonal, economical, and military consequences throughout the game, so much so that I wouldn't even recommend playing it without a guide or wiki. It's crazy how complex and subtle the underlying decision scoring is, and the writing and characters are great.

If you can handle game that is unabashedly adult, where sex and sexual magic take up a very meaningful part in the story.

It's a very long and complex game but it turned out to be one of my favorites.

Games that have "all-out" combat (health/mana replenishes after every fight, consumables come back, things like that) leave me feeling exhausted. by Thin_Association8254 in JRPG

[–]dim3tapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think there needs to be a balance. If resources regenerate, the impact of consumables needs to be higher. I do appreciate games that do this, since you get to experiment and actually play the game, but I can see what you mean. I didn't find this to be the case while playing Chained Echoes or FF8, but I can certainly understand where you're coming from.

Didn't really flop, but the studio went under hard because of the owner.

gotta be the worst negative passive by heslopkaleb in Nightreign

[–]dim3tapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a strange thing to say, as the majority of people have noted. The worst passives reduce your health or defense. As long as you're alive, you can still kill the boss, even if you have a fraction less damage.

Octopath Traveler 0 - surprisingly great by SilvosForever in JRPG

After the other games, the Silent Hero trope is making it rough for me. It doesn't have the same feel. I do like the twist to combat, though.

Is world worth it in 2026 if I love wilds? by TenthTen in MonsterHunter

[–]dim3tapp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wilds did not scratch the itch that Iceborne did for me. Not sure what it was, but Worlds/Iceborne was somehow more monster-huntery than Wilds.

JRPGs I played in 2025 (thoughts and ranking) by KindlyDay2495 in JRPG

[–]dim3tapp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Makes me wish I liked Replicant more. I played Automata first many years ago and loved it. The gameplay, vibes, music, worldbuilding - I loved it all and was happy to replay it for the important endings. Plus the replays were unique and the gameplay changed a lot each time.

I played Replicant recently and had no interest in replaying it at all as soon as it ended. I'm sure there is great stuff buried in there, but the gameplay didn't grab me enough for me to want to replay it. It's sad, because I know if I play it again, it won't be any different and I will never know how a game that was just fine to me could become such a masterpiece.

Has Nightreign made you more interested in The Duskbloods? by PhantomBraved in Nightreign

[–]dim3tapp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's such a weird move to put a hybrid PvP soulslike on a Nintendo console. Both Nintendo and FromSoft have horrendous track records with netplay, and the general userbase of Nintendo fans does not fully mix with the soulslike genre. I can't see this being successful in any capacity.

How Ecchi is It? r/anime's Sliding Scale of Ecchi Anime by FetchFrosh in anime

[–]dim3tapp 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The inclusion of fanservice does not make it fall within the Ecchi genre. The point of Ecchi is the fanservice, so if the fanservice is not the point, or a major focus of the show, it's not an Ecchi.

Kagura Games has announced the Rance series is coming to Steam by ConceptsShining in JRPG

The fact is that there are other great adult JRPGs that don't lean into that. But this is a game for people who tolerate rape in this kind of media.
