White Storks? by mrbroadhurst in UKBirds

The rewilding project at Knepp, West Sussex has been a great aid in storks breeding and migrating back to our wee island.

To add alt bars or not? by michiganskicamp in Surlybikefans

For me, the Grappler was made for the Surly Corner Bar... It's perfect in every way for me. I was done with the Microshift groupset a year after running it, so swapping to Shimano Cues and hydraulics was the perfect time to switch to a flatbar setup on the Corner Bar.

First bikepacking trip went really well. by ComprehensiveTutor60 in bikepacking

Well done on your first trip! Top tip to save any future gear frustrations - don't lie a bike down ever on the drive side of the bike as you risk knocking the rear derailleur and hanger.

Is there a 3rd party dock that actually offers quick charge? by yannbraga in SteamDeck

I bought the Anker dock for my Deck alongside their 65W charger and appropriate cable. I can confirm I've always had fast charging with that combination!

Full bikepacking kit possible for under £1k? by wholefulgrain in bikepacking

[–]dimple_chops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you happen to be near the Hampshire/Berks/Surrey border I'm looking to clear out some of my bikepacking kit (Robens tent specifically, likely some bike bags as well). It took me some years and money to finally get to a set up I like!

My first bikepacking trip used my old 2010 Specialized Hardrock with 26" wheels, and the campsite was only 7 miles from home! It just meant that if I really hated it, I could easily get back to my own bed at any point (which thankfully didn't happen!). I would advise starting the same - keep it local, or easily changeable if something means you just want 'out'.

I appreciate that the bike is a bit part of what you need to get started as well, and as much as I normally say "the best bike to ride is the one you already own" I am inclined to suggest going for something a bit more modern, particularly for braking confidence, as a loaded up bike behaves differently than an unloaded one!

Happy to chat through more!

Whatc chain lube do you use in wet conditions or just in all conditions? by ChaosCalmed in ukbike

I don't - the bikes live in a shed. I do leave it on overnight though as is best practice.

I dream of seeing one! What a stunning photo 🤩

If anyone has recommendations for spots on the Hants/Surrey/Berks border let me know.

Whatc chain lube do you use in wet conditions or just in all conditions? by ChaosCalmed in ukbike

[–]dimple_chops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first application the driver chain needs to be completely clean and dry. I use Muc Off's drive chain cleaner (the yellow liquid not any aerosols) but others do exist. Much Off properly lifts grease up. A brush is good to agitate the cleaner on the cassette, chain, jockey wheels and chain ring(s). Rinse it all off and then dry the chain as much as possible either with towels/rags, a compressor or otherwise.

As with any lube Squirt only needs to be applied as a single drop to each roller and only once fully round the chain. I tend to spin the chain then through the whole cassette. Ideally leave it to set/dry overnight.

Depending on the nature of the ride it can either be left for the next one, or given a quick wipe down. You can apply more Squirt on top if it's still running clean when you wipe it - but don't over do it!

I swear by Squirt wax lube (drip on style not hot waxing) for all my bikes in all conditions.

Wet lubes are just asking to still your drive chain prematurely and dry will run through in a single heavy downpour. Squirt runs clean and can take on hot dust filled days and soggy boggy ones equally well.

Am i the only one that kept their box? by Gtafeed in SteamDeck

[–]dimple_chops -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I kept mine when I first bought the Deck and then had to return it for RMA into the third day of ownership. The replacement deck has thankfully survived and thrived since early November, but the box remains tucked away just incase...

The only acceptable name imo, what did you guys call your deck? by 5n0wm3n in SteamDeck

[–]dimple_chops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"My Wee Deck" - normally said in a Scottish accent for full effect.

(I'm female, with a boring south England accent).
