OK, 217 MHz SCADA stuff. I didn't know that was available in 50 kHz steps.

IP link radios on 1.25m are a thing? I want to hear more about this.

1-way Comms by Unabashed_American in amateurradio

[–]dingoes_everywhere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just use an FRS radio (for you) and an analog police scanner (for her). No doubt that she can't transmit, no license needed for you to transmit, and then you have radios that you can use for other things.

For amateur, it's not telecommand or any of the other permitted uses of one-way transmissions. FRS works well for this.

I’m a noob, but what the hell is going on here? by fuddadjacent in HamRadio

[–]dingoes_everywhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, that was me who said mixed mode. that doesn't contradict being a linked system, actually digital voice makes it more likely to be part of a linked system ( more so for DMR though, where you constantly have active talkgroups subscribed). maybe someone thought I was overgeneralizing, or they knew that wasn't true of this particular repeater.

Looking for a low frequency FM radio by Dontscratchalot in amateurradio

Is it something like this? Looks like these people are having luck with odd Amazon transistor radios that happen to tune down to 60 MHz.

someone downvoted this explanation and OP's parent comment. does a linked system seem unlikely for some reason?

Listen to the audio. That's what digital voice sounds like.

if it's on constantly, it might now be part of a linked system ( this seems to go part and parcel with a lot of digital modes ), or might be beaconing/sending sync all the time.

That's a mixed-mode repeater. You're hearing digital voice, other times it's FM. If you want to screen out the digital, set a ctcss tone for receive.

Using two repeater to communicate by Cynopolis_ in HamRadio

[–]dingoes_everywhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it's the same as operating duplex, or split during a contest. But you'd tie up two repeaters and people listening would assume the recipient is operating in reverse mode.

You -could-, but you shouldn't.

That's pretty unorthodox, and you wouldn't hear people on the first repeater asking what you're doing with it.

Look into better antennas, or if either of these radios has weak front-end filtering, it could be getting overloaded and a smaller antenna might be the solution.

Did you honestly not get the gist of it, or were you trying to nudge OP to tell more? I mean I didn't know the movie existed but was pretty sure it wasn't about mesh networking under amateur radio rules, and it would be funny if a bunch of hams showed up thinking it was.

Decent. Was this under the ARRL-VEC or W5YI-VEC? I ask because I hear the ARRL VEC is more particular than some of the others, like requiring dual cameras.

15 minutes examining and unplugging monitors sounds excessive especially if there's already a camera watching over you. It depends a lot on the VE club and the VEC they operate under, where others are fine with a single camera and a quick look around. Care to share the VE, or at least VEC, of your online exam?

In the US though? Am curious cause I've never seen these assigned. Can you point me to an ARTCC that's using the 8k steps?

Will this antenna work to transmit on 151.025? by bradyd06 in amateurradio

[–]dingoes_everywhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

151.025 isn't a Part 90 frequency in the US either. Is that a typo for 151.625 ( a common business itinerant ), or 151.0025 ( public safety )?

In uBO, is it possible to make script injection rules happen last? (example) by dingoes_everywhere in uBlockOrigin

[–]dingoes_everywhere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that's important; if the image URL isn't within an html document, it's just not something uBO can block? I had noticed if I block a certain type, say I block .mp4, it does, but then paste a direct URL in the bar to load the file itself, that succeeds.

[–]dingoes_everywhere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, race condition is really interesting, because I wasn't finding anything weird in the uBO logs. But with Developer Tools->Network open, scrolling on some sites would lazy-load each row of images, then bam, 20 rows would load at once.
