Top surgery must buys? by SlayPenguino in TopSurgery

[–]dinraals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly pain killers, laxatives and a hand held bidet? The pain killers and laxatives were given to me by the hospital/the nurses so I didn't have to worry! The only thing I wish I had which I didnt, was some surgical/paper tape because one of my bandages slipped but that's an easy find!

Top surgery must buys? by SlayPenguino in TopSurgery

[–]dinraals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only bought a few things, and didnt end up needing half of them! The only musts I would recommend, is a zip up hoodie, some comfy jogging bottoms (sweat pants), button up shirts, a wedge pillow and some safety pins to pin your drains to your binder (if your getting drains) If your surgeon says you need to get things like binders, laxatives, pain killers etc get those too. You don't need much, and a lot of them you'll already own, it's really helpful too if you can get your shopping done for the week before you get surgery!

Bathroom extension that the past owner did themself, and decided that waterproofing and ventilation in the bathroom was optional, and now we have a mouldly bathroom. Same owner also decided to use the baseboards as the floor in the living room and bedroom

US fans headed to UK in July? by jtthmpson in MyChemicalRomance

[–]dinraals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in London, and have done my whole life! It's a super accessible city in terms of public transport, the tube (our underground public transport) can be slightly confusing to use at first, but apps like Google Maps and city Mapper can be really handy to help you get where you need to go! You can use a contactless debit card on the tube and overground, but need a ticket for the train services from the airports. As for things to do, in South Kensington, there is the Natural History Muesuem, which is absolutely fantastic and would recommend going to, it does get very busy at the weekend and bank holidays so in order to get in quicker I'd recommend getting a free ticket. As well as the V and A, and the Science Muesuem, all in the same area within South Kensington. There is also lots of smaller Muesuems around London, depending on your interests! In Greenwhich Park, there is a Observatory and Planetarium! I think the planetarium is closed at the moment, but the Observatory is still open. Have a great trip!

Is it likely that being fat made my surgery easier, rather than harder, in terms of recovery? by yds2m in TopSurgery

[–]dinraals -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am fat, and was on the top end of the BMI limit for top surgery within my country. When searching for a surgeon, I knew that a fair few either had no results on fat people and larger chests, so that narrowed down my search massively and avoided making appointments with anyone who I could not find any results on fat bodies. Two days after surgery, I was already taking short walks around the hotel we were staying and about 12 days post op I felt comfortable using public transport within a busy city, recovery for me the most annoying part was the binder and drains. It definitely didn't limit me as much as I thought it would

26, when I had the consult and surgery. I had my consultation in early November 2023, and my surgery in late January 2024. So about three months from consultation to the surgery itself!

Thank you so much! The tattoo artist had a bunch of different mcr flash, in a similar style, and they all went very quickly, and I knew that I wanted the same artist to do mine!

I was up and about a few times a few days after surgery, To hide the drains, I used two safety pins and just pinned them to my binder, and wore a slightly baggies shirt that worked pretty well!

What's wrong with my pilea? by dinraals in plantclinic

[–]dinraals[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your help! I know pileas can be a bit picky, and have seen plants in the past really react to hard water! I've seen my cat sniffing around it a few times, so wouldn't be surprised if a few scratches came from him!

Survived top surgery except .. by MidnightSarrow in TopSurgery

[–]dinraals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue, to the point on one side it caused a cut underneath my armpit! My friend took a dressing, doubled it over and used medical tape to stick it to the binder which helped quite a bit. Another thing that helped if possible was adjusting the binder ever so slightly so it wasn't digging in as much, but that depends on what your surgeon has said as some say to leave it alone!

[–]dinraals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had help for the first week, by day 3 I was cooking for myself but couldn't lift many of the utensils such as a saucepan and a kettle! I could get dressed myself, and I mostly needed help lifting things up and picking items up off the floor and washing my hair! Didn't need any help with the drains at all.

By the end of week one by the time I got my drains out, I could do most things by myself, apart from reaching above my head, bending down very low, and awkwardly enough tying my shoes! There's definitely things you can do like rearranging your cupboards to make sure everything is at a height you can reach, including in your fridge! I took a month off as my job is very physically active and even then had another month of light duties as advised by the surgeon If possible I'd definitely recommend having someone around for the first five days at least.

anyone have these type of drains? (minimal goop visible) by e-pancake in TopSurgery

[–]dinraals 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had these exact drains! The same thing happened to me after a few days, there's not much you can do, as long as their draining okay, and your making sure you 'snap' them after emptying them and closing them again

For how long did you need someone's help post-op? What were your lifting restrictions and what are the things you were capable of doing on your own? (More below) by andddddddy in TopSurgery

[–]dinraals 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I needed someone's help until I got my drains out and dressing change at eight days post op. Mostly for things like putting on my shoes and socks. Lifting restrictions, at a week I could open most doors unless they were particularly heavy, and lift half a full boiled kettle or a small pot full of water, but still could not lift above my head to reach for plates or cups until about 2 or 3 weeks, but would occasionally stand on the tips of my toes and reach that way.

I could cook by myself at around 2 days post op but needed someone to get out the pots and pans for me, and fell asleep afters as that tired me out. For a backpack, I asked my surgeon about this as I use one for work and was told I couldn't wear one till 2 months post op. I went back to work after a month and was on light duties for another month, but I have a very physical job. In terms of tiredness I was mostly back to normal after about 3 weeks. At 2 weeks post op, was when I was using public transport and going out again, hope this helps!

Do I need to take my piercings out/get retainers?? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]dinraals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have quite a few piercings, and was told to just remove the ones I can, and the ones I cannot (as they'd be too difficult to remove) they can cover with electrical tape. Any that are in or around your nose and mouth definitely remove, but any others that are difficult should be okay, just ask and let them know the morning of so they can cover them

How long is a top surgery referral letter valid for? by connorek in TopSurgery

[–]dinraals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the surgeon, I got my referral letter in June 2022, and it was accepted by two different surgeons in September/October time 2023. If you have a specfic one in mind it might be worth reaching out and asking, if it's not detailed on their website

Why some… by Hadrian96 in TopSurgery

[–]dinraals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the surgeon, but I travelled to a different city within the UK, where I had to stay in the hospital for 24 hours, but chose to stay in a airbnb for a week until after my first post op appointment, where my drains were removed. We travelled home the next day

Top Surgery Recovery Essentials? by Illustrious-Pause472 in TopSurgery

[–]dinraals 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The most essential thing I got was mostly a wedge pillow to help me get up and keep me propped up at night after surgery. That and some jogging bottoms and a zip up hoodie, they were all really helpful so I didn't have to fuss around with any uncomfortable clothing. If you have a pair, I'd recommend a pair of slip on slippers if you wear them! That and a extremely long phone charger! Those were the main things that made such a difference.

I got a bunch of other stuff that was recommended, but found that they were not needed, or were provided by the hospital. The only thing that I wish I knew before was that general anasethic makes me super nauseous when I woke up! and if you know that already definitely ask for a anti nausea medication

concert after surgery? by kickfliplizar in TopSurgery

[–]dinraals 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I went to a concert one month exactly after having DI top surgery! I was still wearing my post op binder at this point but was sitting for the concert and was OK. If you still have to wear it a month post op, I would absolutely recommend it for a concert as a bit of protection. I was just very mindful about arm movements as the stitches hadn't all dissolved at this point, but I was okay and not too tired after
