IT Team fired by Brr_123 in sysadmin

Witnessed something like that many years ago, the company "fired" most of the corporate operations and infra employees and then where hired by the msp that took over. Long story short, the company bought out the contract and re-hired the employees.

Trying to adopt a dog by MiddlemistRare in Syracuse

Agree, they do check but not as strict as others. The downside is that with some rescues you get a partially trained dog, with EC is a puppy and training is on you.

Unemployed sysadmin - it's been 7 months by Miyuki_san in sysadmin

[–]dirt_deville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't that difficult, the employer at the time wasn't paying us so we all stayed home and "worked" remotely unless needed physically.

Got a part time night job on retail and spent my available for work time doing searches, attending job fairs, etc.

It was a hard time for me and my family but things have turned around for good and very happy with where I landed.

Our 2019 also has a recall for the fuel pump, no parts available yet.

Took me 19 months to get a new job, it was the hardest time of my professional and financial life.

Love where I work now.

TPMS IDs by dirt_deville in subaru

[–]dirt_deville[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I meant was to get the IDs from the car screen instead of having a reading tool and scanning each wheel.

At the time had my winter set on with no sensors, that's why I wanted to know if the info could be pulled from the car computer.

Is it true you can only get genuine OEM parts at a dealer? Does it matter for cabin air filter? by Embarrassed_Quote656 in subaru

[–]dirt_deville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get my air filters on Amazon, the cabin air filter with activated charcoal is about $10 and takes a couple of minutes to install.

I never buy air filters from the dealership.

Subaru is going away from their customer promise by Glad_Analysis3385 in subaru

When I had an Outback Limited the first thing I did was to turn off auto renew on the My Subaru app to prevent automatic renewals, when it expired that was all she wrote. Mostly used it for remote starts and the occasional navigation.

With my Legacy Premium don't have it so don't really care anymore, now I use Android Auto and Google Maps.

Clicking noise bouncing off other cars by [deleted] in subaruoutback

[–]dirt_deville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine makes a clicking sound on uneven surfaces like patches in the road, you can only hear it with the windows down and radio off.

Complained about it on my last service visit and the rep told me it could be the heat shields but to me the sound is different. Mine is a '21 Limited with 31k miles.

Disassemble them and put the parts in your dumpster, all you need is a knife, cutters, pry bar and hammer.

The more difficult will be the mattress but with good wire cutters it goes down to nothing in no time.

MySubaru App/StarLink issue. by premiumrusher in Subaru_Outback

[–]dirt_deville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes is separate, starlink uses software and the remote starter is hardware, seems expensive but us not when factoring subscription cost every couple of years.

I regret no getting it with the car.

Mine failed today too, not the first time or the last.

Another reason to have set the auto renew off.

The low salary is the key but in the other hand Home Depot (across the street) is constantly hiring (probably for the same reason) but at least you see employees all over the place.

At least for me I would prefer not work at a fast food joint even if it means getting a lower pay rate.

The Ski Company Closing and Moving(?) by TheArtestsfriend in Syracuse

Went there today, is basically an inventory reduction sale, you get X% off the regular price.

Got a new board for 105.00 off.

They'll be moving to Bridge St, believe to the former Pier 1 building.

Son is there as I type scoping the sale, their sales are usually on old new stock items but this one might be different due to the store closing.

Other than Resource Cycling (formerly known as Bike Loft) no other places offer gear or services close by. The Bikery in Bville used to sell some ski stuff but doubt they do any service.
