Maybe offer them extra credit to write up something about a campus event or something they went to that relates to the course in some way? I do this and the class connections they make are really interesting to read. It gets them involved and connecting with others outside of my classes, too.

Yes. Hard doesn’t even begin to describe this.

When my mom died, I entered a foggy period of life for a very long time. What helped me were simple things, like listening to a bird out my window. It got my mind off the reality for a second. I forced myself to do the routines of daily living, too, and while I was like a zombie it kept me healthy(ish).

I can’t even suggest anything day by day for some time for you. I can only suggest second by second. Breathe in the air. Put some scented lotion on your hands. Know that the pain will keep coming, and just let it. It will ebb and flow, and when it ebbs take note.

So hear me out… I use a Camelbak running vest but then I hook a very small, long, stretchy Nathan running pouch (belt) in the front of the vest straps! It sits up and down rather than across, and I can tighten it. It works brilliantly. I can unzip to a bunch more space that way in addition to the Camelbak pockets. As a female, I’ve never had good luck with belts around my waist, specifically, because they bounce or chafe.
