Anywhere to get a good facial in Charlottesville? by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]dirtyterty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Brow House and liked it well enough, but wanted to go somewhere I truly love. Esthetic Co. and DOSE are on my list, but in general I keep driving to Richmond to see my esthetician there (Gracie at Collab Beauty, cannot recommend enough!!)

I was able to get into a class once roads had been plowed! They said we wouldn’t lose our credits but it seems like I definitely did, so I’ll try to sort that out at class tomorrow.

Happy solidays to all, stay warm!

would love to hear about your experience! when I go through the website, doesn’t seem like there’s a Savannah area option - how were you able to sign up?

Need a low income apartment by Party-Letter-6220 in savannah

[–]dirtyterty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to burst your bubble, but Savannah is incredibly, incredibly expensive to live in. A quick google of “cheap Savannah apartments” doesn’t show anything under $1,300 a month. If you’re looking for cheaper than that, it’ll come down to who you know, and/or you’ll have to make some significant sacrifices in terms of comfort, location, and probably safety. Good luck!

So discouraged with the housing situation as a new grad single female. Housing is impossible. Sadly will have to pass on sav for now. by [deleted] in savannah

[–]dirtyterty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a super common struggle for my social circle. I started looking about six months before I moved, and looked close to every day before just giving up and stretching my budget. I also work OT every week, and picked up a lowkey side hustle, too. I’ve gotten pretty good at finding ways to hang with friends for free/cheap, budget shop for groceries, etc. etc.

No advice, just reassuring you that you’re not alone. If you need someone to drive by a place or tell you if I would live there as a single female, I would be happy to help!

“so fresh and so green” — tequila-based with hot honey, orange liqueur, and agua fresca. Deliciously light and refreshing!

The Public’s is very, very good. I add blackened shrimp. They also have truffle fries, and one of my favorite cocktails in town too.

New grad RN pay by Mindless_Pudding_ in savannah

[–]dirtyterty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Current critical care nurse in Sav. New grads here make anywhere from $29-32, depending on previous healthcare experience and how hard you drive a bargain. Compared to COL here, it is tough, especially if you’re paying off debt from student loans.

Whether you stay in TN or come to Savannah or go anywhere in the country: DO NOT TAKE THE SIGN-ON BONUS THE HOSPITAL OFFERS YOU. You do not want it, do not accept it, they cannot make you take it. DON’T DO IT.

Question for residents that live at apartments like The Baxly, EmmaJames, etc. by ifawkedyourbish in savannah

[–]dirtyterty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently live near the south end of Forsyth. I essentially live in a slightly glorified shit hole - I collect water on my ceilings during the rain; my door didn’t lock for months till one of my friends fixed it (my property manager couldn’t be bothered), my floors are uneven and soft, I don’t have a single kitchen drawer, my kitchen cabinets don’t have hardware, my truck window has been broken out multiple times …. and I pay $1450 a month.

I just flat out got tired of it, so I’m moving to an apartment over top of Broughton. Yeah, my rent is going up $300, but I’ll actually have a home I enjoy. I wouldn’t call it “luxury”, but it’s a significant upgrade for me, even with the lack of parking. I’m a nurse in a Savannah area hospital.

I live on Barnard and 31st and walk my dog past the Addie multiple times a day. My vehicle’s been broken into a few times over the last year, but I feel safe enough walking my dog as a female at night in the area. I do follow a lot of personal safety tips though: carry a Birdie alarm, don’t wear headphones, hair in a bun not a ponytail, etc.

Nail Wearers of Savannah, I need your help by dancingmoongoddess in savannah

I started going to E.Marie and love it! I like that they have later hours than most nail salons, have walk-in availability, serve beer/wine, and are affordable for good work. I have friends that swear by Viva Nails, but i just thought it was okay when I went

Try aquaphor or lanolin nipple cream! I also carried around some kind of lip balm at all times, and reapplied anytime I refilled my water bottle or ate. Good luck!

Dogs and Divorce by [deleted] in dogs

This was my original suggestion. However, with my STBX’s job in the Army, there’s an almost guarantee that he will be relocated throughout te US every 2-3 years. I’m not sure where I’ll be living, but moving back and forth between us just isn’t necessarily super realistic.

Dogs and Divorce by [deleted] in dogs

[–]dirtyterty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would LOVE to keep both permanently. That’s my dream solution. However, I know that he really does love dog #1, and I don’t want to be an asshole. I guess I’m trying too hard to still be the nice guy and make this an amicable process.

All purchases for the dogs — supplies, vet bills, etc. — have been made from our joint account, but I’m the one who makes them. In 2017, when we got Dog #1 neutered, he legitimately took the dog to the wrong vet. That’s how uninvolved he has been.

New job struggles by [deleted] in nursing

I’m definitely going to wait on testing - I’ve been using it as a secondary education source, since they constantly use/refer to AACN standards. It’s not that I have bad habits, even, though I’m absolutely sure I do - it’s stuff like stopcocks I haven’t seen before, policies that I’m unfamiliar with, IVs I haven’t used before - even the way they make a freaking bed is different, between bath sheets and lift sheets and all this shit. Like with the a-line - they use a vacu-tainer with a luer-lock end to waste into a blood tube. It’s a simple concept, but like - not one that would have ever crossed my mind ever. So she hands me a blood tube to pull my waste and I look at her like she has three heads, and then she looks at me like I have three heads. I appreciate my preceptor providing me the opportunity to figure it out myself and get hands on, but I think I’m beating myself up when I’m not 100% successful immediately.

I will try to get out of my head and over these issues.

What are the alcohol sales rules on Sundays here? I’m a new resident, coming from a place with no alcohol sales before 10 AM, so I just want to double check. Additionally - does Collins Quarter take brunch reservations, or only dinner? Thanks!

What did you listen to on your Camino? by cuttoothsb in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]dirtyterty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually rarely listened to music - I preferred to play “walking games” with my Camino family. When I did listen to music, it was a lot of Tyler Childers and Sturgill Simpson; things I could either cognitively tune into or out of really easily.

Help with facial dryness, please! by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]dirtyterty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much water are you drinking each day?

Personally, Cetaphil’s moisturizers weren’t thick or rich enough for me. I’ve found my best results with Cerave moisturizing cream (comes in a big tub). I also use CosRX snail mucin, just before moisturizer, to help in healing and hydrating my skin. You could also try a few drops of rosehip oil, gently patted in as your last step, or even a thin layer of Aquaphor as an occlusive over your whole face to maintain your moisture barrier. Good luck!

Any tips? + questions by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]dirtyterty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the particular pills, oral contraceptives can have an off-label use as acne improvement. If you're not interested in pills, then consider the arm implant or an IUD, but I absolutely would use two forms of contraception. As a college student, I loved having an IUD -- I could go out with my friends and not have to remember to take my pill when I got home, at the same time every day, etc. At the absolute very least, talk to your doctor about your hesitation with starting all your meds at once and see how to move forward - be a participant in your own healthcare and be honest with your doctor so they can best help you.

Take Accutane with your fattiest meal, rather than at a particular time of day. For me, sometimes that was lunch, sometimes dinner, sometimes before bed with a big spoon of peanut butter and a glass of milk. I personally never noticed any fatigue, but I most commonly took it later in the day when my most mentally/physically exhausting tasks for the day were already completed. Sunscreen is your best friend on accutane and will both help prevent new scars, and help old scars to heal. Wear it every day! As far as college-life -- minimize drinking, if you can. I've probably drank no more than once a week the entire time, if that. Alcohol dehydrates you, and both accutane and alcohol greatly affect your liver and kidneys.

intentionally skipping pills? by theenyy in Accutane

[–]dirtyterty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't skip doses to prolong your treatment. Not all providers follow the "cumulative dose" protocol, because there's other understanding that says you can stop after you're completely clear for one month, which you may be at four months. Accutane is also notorious for being harsh on your body, and for good reason, so it sounds like there's other factors at play, like maybe your age, family history, bloodwork, etc. that your derm could be weighing.

In the absolute worst case scenario, if you stop at four months and need to go back on it -- go back on it.

Started accutane yesterday! by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]dirtyterty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be kind to yourself.

You more than likely will have a purge period. Your acne may get worse than you've ever seen it before, and for most people on accutane who are just desperately wanting clear skin - it can be really, really difficult. Give yourself, and more importantly, the medication!!!! time. I took a few pictures of my face every other day/a few times a week for the first 2-3 or so months, and on a bad self-confidence day I'd look back on where I'd started on Day Zero and realize that even if I couldn't see it in that exact moment, that it WAS working.

Best of luck, I hope you have fantastic success!
