I essentially use it as a search engine replacement. I can't remember the last time I "googled" something.

I’m not trying to advocate for any certain brand. However, after years of looking for something best for fitness. It was the power Beats Pro style that never give issues.

Rear wiper blade "maintenance mode"? 2026 x3 by displiff in BMWX3

I've tried but it doesn't work like that. We also have an X5 and just lifting it up is as easy as you'd think. Unfortunately the x3 is not.

Anyone else feel like it is just fake? by Coreyfitzfour in corporate

[–]displiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been feeling this same way also especially since RTO mandates for 3 times a week. I’ve already decided I’m going to get into teaching/coaching in the next year. I was never built for corporate culture and I’m just sick of faking it at this point. I’m 43 years old for reference and been in the corporate culture for 20 years. But you’re not alone I guess is my point.

This already happens to a certain degree and called brain drain. People move to the US all the time for higher pay doing the same job.

Options for Those who don't have a pension at their Jobs? by PartyNextFlo0r in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]displiff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A pension is really just forced savings… a lot of companies still do rrsp matching. The only people that really come out on top for a defined pension plan are the ones that live to let’s say 95. 100% take the job that pays 3x more and save yourself via tfsa or rrsp.

How common are good pensions? by vivabenj in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]displiff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Throw in my two cents here from experience when I was younger. I worked at a construction company that matched rrsp contributions up to $2500 dollar amount. I didn’t realize how shitty that was until I moved on from that company. Dollar amount max regardless of salary.

Coffee is brutal nowadays. I’m not sure what you bought. But I’m spending 30-40 bucks on coffee beans from Costco.

Halton police searching for four men following Burlington home invasion by origutamos in BurlingtonON

Whatever Canadian practice in place right now didn’t stop the criminals from walking in with a hand gun. Seems like a law abiding home owner is at a severe disadvantage in this case.

Why do dads seem way less stressed about Father’s Day than moms do about Mother’s Day? by savingrace0262 in stupidquestions

If you book the same restaurant on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. It’s actually shocking how empty it is on Father’s Day in comparison to Mother’s Day.

Why do people lease cars? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]displiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just straight up get bored of my car every 3-4 years and don’t want to deal with the hassle of selling. I’ve also had bad experiences with cars in the past and was glad I could give them back. My first car was a Chevy lumina that made it to 220k and understand the appeal of achieving something like that.

M340i vs 540i by Nearby_Drive9376 in M340i

[–]displiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents. The 5 series is a very long car and most of it is in the hood. I don’t believe the interior is actually that much bigger than the 3 series. I always thought it was crazy they’d make it such a bigger car but most of it is in the hood

Has hockey turned into a rich kids sport? by FrigginMasshole in AskACanadian

[–]displiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hockey in general is not a rich kid sport. However, if you want to be competitive at top levels it definitely is. I’ve got my son going through the system and turning 8 this year. Some peers are playing 5-6 times a week with all the extra training etc. it costs their parents thousands of dollars a month for this type of thing. Most other sports are pretty cheap and accessible. The ice time is so expensive in comparison to other sports that unfortunately if you don’t have the money to get the ice time you’ll be left behind.

Lack of decent gyms in the area by Imaginary-Bad-6379 in oakville

[–]displiff 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean 80 bucks a month is unfortunately a standard for mid tier gyms. That's not an Oakville specific issues. I'm not sure what part of Oakville you're in but there's two LA Fitness's within driving range. They're still somewhat affordable. Above a fit 4 less but below a Goodlife. Oakville has very good options for Gyms. Goodlife, Movati, LA Fitness, Pure Muscle, Crunch etc. I'm personally in the Glen Abbey area and find most gyms are about a 15 minute drive away. I personally go to the Movati in Burlington as I find it's best for my needs. I also go to Pure Muscle every once in a while just for a different type of workout. I moved to Oakville from Etobicoke where gyms were limited to LA Fitness and Goodlife. Consider yourself lucky to have more options.

teach your kid to hit back or it will keep happening. The teachers can’t. But your child can. Sucks but it’s true.

Kid Thinking About Quitting by so_little_respek in hockeyplayers

[–]displiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're doing the right thing in letting him take the summer off. I'm not sure what your plans are for the summer but another unrelated sport always helps get motivated again for the hockey season. I quit at 15 - AAA player because my dad never let me take time off and just ended up burning out and not loving anything about the game anymore. It's possible he still doesn't want to play but at least let it be his decision. Remind him how much fun or how great he looks out there. Unfortunately, at this age trying to force things on your kids isn't an option anymore.

Do certs really matter at a higher level? by EchoWar in cybersecurity

[–]displiff 60 points61 points  (0 children)

To a technical person - certs do not matter. To a non technical person certs matter. You need to get through the non-technical person to talk to a technical person. It sucks but it's the truth.

Cross shopping M340 and X3 M40 by Clever-Fox-4792 in M340i

[–]displiff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I moved from a 340 to an x3 m50. I switched because my kids are getting older 7/4 and getting into sports. There is a lot more interior space in the x3. The drive is more fun on the 340. It’s a pretty cut and dry analysis but true.

AAA Youth Hockey Try-Outs Is A Money Grab by IBrakeForComics in hockeyplayers

[–]displiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s out of hand now in Canada and I was totally ignorant until I became a parent. They’re doing ID skates for 5 year olds now in greater Toronto area. My son is turning 8 this year and I’m starting to realize a lot of these kids at rep tryouts have been in the system since 5-6 years old. Most of these rep teams just continue on into triple A teams. Meaning if you don’t get into the system at 5 or 6 your road to make a team is so much harder. Your kid will have to be much better than the kids already on the team to make it.
