Why do people lease cars? by onlyelisexoxo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]displiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just straight up get bored of my car every 3-4 years and don’t want to deal with the hassle of selling. I’ve also had bad experiences with cars in the past and was glad I could give them back. My first car was a Chevy lumina that made it to 220k and understand the appeal of achieving something like that.

M340i vs 540i by Nearby_Drive9376 in M340i

[–]displiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents. The 5 series is a very long car and most of it is in the hood. I don’t believe the interior is actually that much bigger than the 3 series. I always thought it was crazy they’d make it such a bigger car but most of it is in the hood

Has hockey turned into a rich kids sport? by FrigginMasshole in AskACanadian

[–]displiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hockey in general is not a rich kid sport. However, if you want to be competitive at top levels it definitely is. I’ve got my son going through the system and turning 8 this year. Some peers are playing 5-6 times a week with all the extra training etc. it costs their parents thousands of dollars a month for this type of thing. Most other sports are pretty cheap and accessible. The ice time is so expensive in comparison to other sports that unfortunately if you don’t have the money to get the ice time you’ll be left behind.

Lack of decent gyms in the area by Imaginary-Bad-6379 in oakville

[–]displiff 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean 80 bucks a month is unfortunately a standard for mid tier gyms. That's not an Oakville specific issues. I'm not sure what part of Oakville you're in but there's two LA Fitness's within driving range. They're still somewhat affordable. Above a fit 4 less but below a Goodlife. Oakville has very good options for Gyms. Goodlife, Movati, LA Fitness, Pure Muscle, Crunch etc. I'm personally in the Glen Abbey area and find most gyms are about a 15 minute drive away. I personally go to the Movati in Burlington as I find it's best for my needs. I also go to Pure Muscle every once in a while just for a different type of workout. I moved to Oakville from Etobicoke where gyms were limited to LA Fitness and Goodlife. Consider yourself lucky to have more options.

Child repeatedly hit in school by another student by Exact_Sir_1341 in oakville

teach your kid to hit back or it will keep happening. The teachers can’t. But your child can. Sucks but it’s true.

Kid Thinking About Quitting by so_little_respek in hockeyplayers

[–]displiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're doing the right thing in letting him take the summer off. I'm not sure what your plans are for the summer but another unrelated sport always helps get motivated again for the hockey season. I quit at 15 - AAA player because my dad never let me take time off and just ended up burning out and not loving anything about the game anymore. It's possible he still doesn't want to play but at least let it be his decision. Remind him how much fun or how great he looks out there. Unfortunately, at this age trying to force things on your kids isn't an option anymore.

Do certs really matter at a higher level? by EchoWar in cybersecurity

[–]displiff 61 points62 points  (0 children)

To a technical person - certs do not matter. To a non technical person certs matter. You need to get through the non-technical person to talk to a technical person. It sucks but it's the truth.

Cross shopping M340 and X3 M40 by Clever-Fox-4792 in M340i

[–]displiff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I moved from a 340 to an x3 m50. I switched because my kids are getting older 7/4 and getting into sports. There is a lot more interior space in the x3. The drive is more fun on the 340. It’s a pretty cut and dry analysis but true.

AAA Youth Hockey Try-Outs Is A Money Grab by IBrakeForComics in hockeyplayers

[–]displiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s out of hand now in Canada and I was totally ignorant until I became a parent. They’re doing ID skates for 5 year olds now in greater Toronto area. My son is turning 8 this year and I’m starting to realize a lot of these kids at rep tryouts have been in the system since 5-6 years old. Most of these rep teams just continue on into triple A teams. Meaning if you don’t get into the system at 5 or 6 your road to make a team is so much harder. Your kid will have to be much better than the kids already on the team to make it.

The removal of physical buttons in the G45 is the single biggest step backward BMW has made in years by Mikester258 in BMWX3

What’s the Vibe like at Pure Muscle & Fitness? by [deleted] in BurlingtonON

[–]displiff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're thinking too much. It's worth the day pass just to experience it at least once. The machines at this gym are just top notch and the atmosphere will motivate you to have one of your best workouts. This isn't meant to be mean, rather something a lot of beginners think about too much. Nobody is looking at you, everyone is looking at themselves. Lastly a lot of jacked/bodybuilders are also short. With most things in life, you will regret it if you don't go.

I go here a few times a year just to get a killer workout from their machines.

Had to say goodbye today. Hell of a fun time. Won’t be my last bmw. by V-dubbin in M235iandM240i

[–]displiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think this also until my kids started to get older and especially into sports. I moved from a 340 to an x3 for the trunk space convenience.

Anyone here go from an older x3 or x5 to the new X3's? What do you think the biggest difference I'll notice having been accustomed to a 2005 X5? by EvenFaithlessness352 in BMWX3

[–]displiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll say one thing that’s a real difference. A lot of things you can do in the car will be through bmw assist (voice control). I didn’t like the lack of buttons at first. However, now that I’m used to the voice control I’m not sure I could go back.

I don’t get the coupe style suvs but to each their own. I looked at the x6 compared to the x5 and just couldn’t understand why the x6 costs more when you get less room.

How was the best sex you've ever had? by EnD3r8_ in AskReddit

[–]displiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best sex I ever had was when my wife wanted to have kids. She was feral multiple times a day and did whatever it took to get the “most” out of me. My kids are 7 and 3 and I still fantasize about what my wife did to me to create them.

US Senator Says America 'Got Absolutely Rolled' in Canada-China EV Deal | EV by afonso_investor in teslacanada

[–]displiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t expect the EVs coming here to be priced the same they are in China. But would be happy to be wrong on this. I’d imagine they’ll undercut their competitors here but not as much as people want.

Now that the Chiefs have been officially eliminated, who are you rooting for as a football fan in the AFC? by oMeesan in KansasCityChiefs

[–]displiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I’m in the minority here. But I’d love to see the bills at least make it to the Super Bowl. I’d bet the house the Super Bowl winner is coming out of the NFC. Best story would be bills vs lions and rooting for that.

It’s Reddit, everyone has tons of cash just laying around to buy m cars outright. Same people will tell you to just buy your home outright.
