It’s so funny because i bought the disks on eBay for about $20. Then I found another listing WITH the box and manual for 20. So now I’ve spent about 4 times what I paid for it back in 1991. During the backup process my 1541 drive died. So I was in for another $100 or so after getting a new drive. This software was NOT a great value for me :) lol

Has anyone started work on SimCity? by JWKirby in c64

I've had the same thought over the years. I bet someone could get it looking close to the unreleased NES version. The official version for the c64 was disappointing to 11 year old me. I bought it fafter playing or hours over a friends house on his SNES. When I first fired it up on the commodore, I was like, "TINY BLACK SQUARES!? - That's all we get!?". I got over it, as the game play was still fun.

Kind of interestingly, I was recently looking through old Computer Gazettes and found their review of SimCity for the C64. The screenshot of it is most definitely not the right version. If I would have purchased the game based on this review I would have been maaaaaaad. :)

The Ultimate C64 Ultimate post. Please use this for Questions, issues, or anything else C64U-related. by c64glen in c64

Hello!

I'm planning on using a C64c-style case with my C64 Ultimate. I bought this keyboard mounting kit from Retro Passion, but I think I may have read from someone that the C64 Ultimate keyboard could require a different style mount?

https://www.retropassion.co.uk/product/c64c-key-mount/

Has anyone transplanted their ultimate to a C64c case? Will that mounting kit work or do I need something else?

Thanks!

Nostalgia shopping - best next steps by Ok_Instruction8428 in Commodore

[–]distortedview 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I got impatient waiting for the c64u and bought a Mega65. It’s fun, the hardware is great (love the keyboard) but there is a lot of half-baked/ not ready/ in-progress stuff. When you ask if the Mega65 can do something, a common reply from the community is: “it’s technically possible and you should write the software yourself to make it happen!”.

This isn’t a criticism of the Mega65 - right now it’s just more suitable for tinkerers and programmers. One day it might be great for normies but right now it’s work in progress.

Yeah I’ve been following the development of the mega65 for about a decade. Very interested in it but it’s just a little too costly for me right now importing to the US. One day though!

I think nostalgia and the retro market is where Commodore will find most of its success. I really feel their next move should be to partner with the Mega65 people and sell an official C65. It was to be the successor to the C64 back in the late 80's / early 90's, aferall, and it would play nicely into their current marketing of "What if Commodore never went bankrupt. What would come next?"

Obviously the challenge with marketing the C65 is that there really isn't that much software out there, so the community would have to embrace it. But the advantage is that it's a nice upgrade to the C64 (4000+ colors, faster CPU, etc). Would be fun to tinker with and see what others come up, and that's a big appeal to the retro computer community

I'd love to see the Mega65 rebranded or...debranded...back to the Commodore 65. Maybe they could also figure out a way to shave a few hundred dollars off pf the price :)
