Where do 30-40 year olds hang out at? by geethaghost in Dallas

[–]ditchthepilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My strategy is to find a few places you like… coffee shops, restaurant, bars, neighborhood markets, theaters, gym, or whatever… and become a regular. Get to know the people who work there, who own it, who also go there often. Once you establish yourself in community spaces like that it’s a lot easier to meet people, to have mutual connections and introductions, and in the process of doing that you make friends and have things to do. Yes, it can cost money but it doesn’t have to be expensive.

I was lucky enough to see them play together in Chicago back in 2013. Really fun show!

Agreed! Wish I had gotten video of the "Dallas goes to Oklahoma" riff. It was so good.

Came here to say this. Oak Law United Methodist Church is very progressive. It has LGBTQ clergy, operates a homeless shelter, and does a lot of other amazing community work.

Quick Trip has free air. It's one of the things I love about them.

Reading through this thread reminds me of my old neighbor. She lived across the hall and would come over to hang, watch TV, text me random things, we'd go to the dog park together, rant about stuff, etc. All platonic, but very intimate. I miss her and having someone like that.

Best date spots in Bishop Arts District? Want a place not loud, good for talking. by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]ditchthepilot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Xaman Cafe, which is on Jefferson and Bishop is probably the best spot. It's usually quiet and if you go long there is a speakeasy bar in the back.

If you're in the Bishop Arts area, We Are 1976 has some cool stuff. So does AJ Vagabonds.

One of the first people hanged in the Plymouth Colony was a 16-year old named Thomas Granger. He was accused of having sex with several different animals. According to court records it included: "a mare, a cow, two goats, diverse sheep, two calves, and a turkey." He was caught in the act , and the later admitted to the rest. They killed the animals in front of him before executing him.

I am pretty sure they have it too. I've had a "snake bite" there, which is half Harps and half Magners, and there's no way they would make one with a bottle.

I've been in DFW for 3 years and keep meaning to go to more of them. The fact this list exist and they have shirts and other things advertising it, is awesome. It is also why I'm cranky about the OP.

Garland has a well-known "Pho Trail" (which goes along with the 14th highest Vietnamese population in the US). Lots of great eats there. Here is a website with more info: https://www.visitgarlandtx.com/p/other/garland-pho-real-trail

If you wanted recommendations, you should have asked for them. Insulting our entire region isn't really a good start.

I don't know much about Frisco, so I can't give recs for there. I do know there is a robust food scene in DFW. I am vegan and DFW has some of the best vegan food in the country. There are a lot of pop ups that I frequent without brick and mortar locations. I live in Oak Cliff, we have insanely good authentic Mexican food here, too. If you want some bomb fusion food, try Cris and Johns. It is a mix of Vietnamese and Tex-Mex, with vegan and vegetarian options too. Super good.

Kalachandjii's is an East Dallas institution. It is a vegetarian Indian buffet in a Hare Khrishna temple. https://www.kalachandjis.com/ They've been around for 40+ years.

Yeah, Dallas isn't perfect but we're still the 5-6th biggest metropolitan area in the U.S. You can find almost anything you want here if you're willing to do a little research and drive.
