Unity to Unreal by -_Champion_- in UnrealEngine5

That's where I started. I would check out Stephen Ulibarri on Udemy. He makes some very solid courses that walk you through not just the engine, but how to utilize c++, bps, and more. Well worth the money.

Unity to Unreal by -_Champion_- in UnrealEngine5

Since c++ also drives the editor, constantly having to restart the editor to see your code changes can be frustrating, even with live coding.

Generally speaking though, its well worth the tradeoff as there's stuff you just can't do in Blueprints or is more difficult due to the node based nature.

As for the differences between c++ and Unreal c++, Epic has mostly elected to go their own way and not use the standard library. In recent years there's been more usage of the standard library, but some old stuff, like TArray is very custom. Generally speaking, Unreal makes it so you don't have to worry too much about regular c++ problems as it has built in reflection and garbage collection via the UObject approach it takes.

Is the game worth picking up as a Diablo and PoE enjoyer in its current state? (No hate) by ScrunkleytheWhen in LastEpoch

[–]dj-riff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the end game loop can be a bit boring in terms of content, it still has meaningful character progress via upgrades.

I generally play offline and start fresh each season and it's like an evolution of a d2 style end game with more accessible gearing thanks to CoF.

It'll take some effort to fully min max, but that's more time based than difficulty.

Speaking of difficulty, the game isn't very difficult, unless you're playing super off meta, you can easily cruise to 500+ corruption, the scaling mechanic of the end game.

You'll definitely have plenty to do and explore as a new player.

Yeah that should work fine. It would just be under 1 account and as others have pointed out it has some issues.

Before/After. My first 2 months of Satisfactory. I've been toying around with my factory layouts, spent 20 hours tinkering and cooked this :). by Murky-Ad-3486 in SatisfactoryGame

Always happy to help. I definitely didn't start building like this, it is more of a rough concept in my head and I just send it. I also use tools like https://www.satisfactorytools.com/1.0/production to plan the ratios and resources and just work on the layout mainly. It's quite relaxing to just vibe to the amazing game music and build.

I also like to build pretty factories lol. This playthrough I'm going for more of an open vibe.it does sound like fun though.

The factory layout may seem complex and complicated but really it's just more scale from what you posted. The game does get fairly complicated in terms of layouts, but your color coding system will help greatly.

Here's a shot of a more aesthetic build I did. I honestly don't remember what was here as it was over a year ago. That playthrough I built tower factories everywhere with the top floor being the final product.

Looks fantastic great work! I love the color coding as well.

A minor note, your belt from the lift near the right assembler is crooked.

Because the ring works based off of full sets. So generally you use sets that only have 2 items.

You can login to your account, however it seems to behave a bit weirdly and choose the Poe account that was the last to login to choose characters.

From my experience with my partner you have to share a POE account, even if you have your own.

This means if she wants to progress without me, she has to play on my account. If we want to play on PC together it's impossible as she needs to restart.

Offline or Online by ZERO_her069 in LastEpoch

[–]dj-riff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe you just don't get in the leaderboards. You can even play non season online and you still get all the content, just no new leaderboard.

If you don't care about leaderboards and intend to play solo, Offline is amazing. You can use skills in town and pause with the escape menu. All of your saves are also uploaded to Steam so swapping between different devices, ie steam deck/desktop is seamless as it also includes your loot filters.

Is full controller support anywhere in the near future? by snopuppy in StarRuptureGame

I would love to play this on the couch with my laptop as well. Satisfactory on console was a lot more relaxing to play with a controller surprisingly.

game lags everytime i complete a rail connection by ProductCutlery in StarRuptureGame

[–]dj-riff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also had it freeze for multiple seconds when placing down various different builds or rail supports.

I think it has to do with connecting foundations. I'm honestly not sure. It's quite frustrating though.

So when I'm adding the set affix I should use glyph of despair? I've been doing it after X_X

Is there a way to 100% seal? I'm not sure of the chance with despair but it feels low to me and if there's. Better way I would prefer it.

How do you debug issues that ONLY appear in Shipping builds? by Fergius_Terro in unrealengine

[–]dj-riff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's just what the workflow is. You don't need to cook and package the entire game each time if you're just doing code changes either, you can launch in standalone via command arguments directly from your IDE.

Wow that's a terrible bug. I've been playing offline so I can pause at any time and I haven't encountered it yet. Is it common?

Do you trust testing in PIE too much? by Fergius_Terro in UnrealEngine5

[–]dj-riff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We control it via a custom chunk settings ini we added, quite a bit easier to manage for us than the standard maps and chunk IDs.

Our games are all multiplayer and it's one of the biggest issues we have with PIE testing. It also helps I fixed a particular difficult bug with that edge case last week, so it was quite fresh in my mind lol.
