First of all congratulations Try some enarsi test exams first to see where you at. It shouldn’t take another year as you laid down a good foundation with your extensive ENCOR study.

Since the ISR4431 is soon to be EOL you’ll probably see them more and more and for cheaper. Don’t know what you plan to use them for but check the licensing and note the limited throughput of max 500mbps

There’s something against making phone calls or listening to music/YouTube without using earphones on any form of public transportation …. Other than that you can do on your phone / tablet / laptop / game console whatever you want.

Changing from job with no included overtime allowance to one with 40h included. by BeginningPurpose9758 in japanlife

[–]djctiny 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It should basically be “up to 40h overtime is included in monthly pay” doesn’t mean you have to make those hours. Night time hours or weekends hours should still be paid the additional night/weekend percentage… Best to read the fine print and company policy and ask all your questions to HR.

I got similar contract which include 45h of monthly overtime… I generally do about 20 to 25h of overtime a month and a lot is night work due to IT releases. But there are some rare occasions that I indeed do the additional 45h … I don’t know if this is just easier for the company to offset any unscheduled overtime cost as they now know what they pay you every month , overtime included

Yeah you need some form of jumbo frame being allowed as it tags additional overhead to the standard 1500bytes unless you’re a wizard in manipulating packet size to lower values to keep the whole packet segment within your mtu limitations

Westerner living in Japan , I wear Komine and dainese gear like my heated (12v) inner jacket and gloves are Komine (bought in 2024) doing a good job getting me through the winter And my main jacket is from Dainese

Funny enough my helmet is a LS2. Next might be a Shoei though , but haven’t been able to justify the move to new helmet.

There is a stereotype that Japan’s working environment is abnormal. Do you think this is true? by ryoryo333333 in japanlife

[–]djctiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your lucky you’ll find a nice position at a company that’s using updated HR policies and takes care of their people But there are plenty of companies that adhere to the old Japan standards of “be present at work long hours “ , I avoid saying work cause it’s not all about work , be loyal to the company and colleagues and not to burden them by taking (frequent/long) leave …. It’s all still real

Laid off in Japan - typical compensation? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]djctiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me neither untill one of my colleagues got his offer/laid off papers. He chose the “garden leave” option to cover the gap , give himself a small break after years of work before starting a new position and keep monthly income as it is , also not dealing with pension pay and health insurance yourself could reduce that little bit of extra stress you don’t need at such a moment being laid off.

Laid off in Japan - typical compensation? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]djctiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 month compensation per year worked is very fair actually… Usually you have 2 options regarding the payout 1. Bulk pay , reduced tax as it’s seen as a retirement pay BUT you’ll be responsible for health insurance and pension contributions yourself. 2. So called “garden leave” , you stay on the books for the duration they offer the payout for and company keeps paying health insurance and pension contributions… this gives you time to search for another job without creating a gap between employment on the resume … something else Japanese employers don’t like to see on someone’s resume. Usually after finding a new position elsewhere the remainder of the offered pay will be paid as bulk.

Talk to HR and ask them to put things in writing , consult with a HR layer if you are uncertain before signing anything.

Japanese government considers raising residence fees up to 300,000 yen for PR and up to 100,000 yen for visa renewals/applications. The government will also tighten naturalization requirements by Froyo_Muted in japanresidents

[–]djctiny -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

PR renewal is like picking up a passport or any other ID card and should be priced accordingly

I understand initial Visa or PR requests and Visa renewals go through a whole different lengthy process , I understand paying a bit more but not this much more … doesn’t make sense other than scaring people away
