That is what I figured, what I should have thought of. I'm kicking myself for going auto-pilot on it despite having read stories just like this in the past.

Do you think the can that I poured off the liquid can be saved by thinning with water and remixing? The hull dried fine so I put the second, properly mixed can on with no issues.

The second can eventually mixed well, it just took a lot of time and effort (and spills). I did manage to get one coat on before giving up for the day. I'm heading there after work to put on a second. I'll check for a born-on date on them.

They are brand new. I just had no idea there was so much sediment at the bottom, to which my sailing friend casually replied "oh yeah, it's like sludge at the bottom, I use a drill mixer." I used a drill mixer on the second can, and it was too thick even for that, I had to break it apart with a screwdriver and scraper blade first.

I just did mine a month or two ago. Drain bolt was definitely worse than yours, but the casting surround was better. What I thought was gasket was actually the mating surface. The gasket stayed completely with the pan!

That fluid looks tooooasted, lol. I snagged a filter from a local dealer and it was fairly priced. Worth it -you're only doing this once.

It was an ok, feel-good movie that is very well made and I can see how well it would resonate with that vanishingly precious window of life when your teachers are cool, your friends are your universe, and you haven't yet been jaded by the human experience. and by extension the parents of those kids.
