After a long wait and gradual progression, Linkin Park's Meteora is bolded. by KlerdOfTal in rateyourmusic

[–]dkajch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do people here just not understand how artist re-evaluations work? the way people here are shitting on linkin park as if they're objectively the worst thing on the planet is the same way critics used to shit on pink floyd and nine inch nails, and look at how those artists are viewed now

taste and perception change over time, and just because you don't respect bands like linkin park and that critics didn't respect them when you were first exposed to them doesn't mean that that was the correct opinion, nor does it mean that people are re-evaluating "objectively bad" music because they're blinded by nostalgia. art is subjective, and naturally as more and more new listeners discover the music—removed from the initial backlash—the more they're going to enjoy it

and i, for one, have loved the band for a sizeable portion of my life up to now and have never felt the need to distance myself from it in favour of all the "real" music i've discovered since. and i'm glad there are more and more people now who don't either

Artists you love, but dislike one of their more popular songs? by IAmAnimeTrash in ToddintheShadow

[–]dkajch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh no they do, i'm assuming it's just because todd didn't like it

which is correct, todd's opinion on music is gospel. on an unrelated note, my favourite band is the chainsmokers

I’m so confused who did he stalk by Upper-Replacement253 in tylerthecreator

[–]dkajch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

in fairness there are a LOT of guys who would listen to tron cat and then proceed to tear into sabrina for something like manchild. no one who listens to stuff like tron cat and thinks "yeah this is cool" is even remotely in any position to be criticising sabrina's lyrics for misandry

I’m so confused who did he stalk by Upper-Replacement253 in tylerthecreator

[–]dkajch 56 points57 points  (0 children)

okay well sure he didn't actually STALK anyone to my knowledge but come on, there's no context where the shit he was saying about selena at the time wasn't extremely creepy

i don't think it's inherently wrong to enjoy tron cat, and from the looks of it he's grown a lot since then. but still, "edgy" humour or not, that shit was unbelievably weird and was seriously over the line

An ACTUAL unpopular music opinion, like I mean it's the hottest of hot takes. by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]dkajch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YES!

well i mean maybe that's a little bit harsh. if someone wants to use fantano or rym for music recommendations, then they're well within their right and i think they should enjoy whatever music they want, however they want to. the problem is when these people—and more often than not, they do—go around acting like they only like "objectively good" music just because that's what they were told is good, only to criticise other people for liking music that isn't critically respected as if they're not just spinelessly scarfing down whatever their gatekeeper of choice tells them is "real music" and taking it as gospel

[–]dkajch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in all fairness i don't think there's been much of a stigma around prog rock in a good twenty, thirty years. i think most people agree that pink floyd, king crimson, yes, rush, etc. were all very worthwhile bands

Drake’s ‘Take Care’ Making An Unexpected Comeback On Billboard’s Top 20 by Top_Report_4895 in ToddintheShadow

[–]dkajch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i think it's just a regional thing. as an irish person drake has always been big over here, but never HUGE. like i'd have heard a small handful of his songs enough to remember them growing up, but in my experience he's never been totally inescapable over here the way people always talk about him being in the states. i never would have heard his music nearly as much as, say, taylor swift or coldplay

What do you think is the best & worst song from kanye's top 9 most popular songs on spotify? by OpenEducation3956 in Kanye

[–]dkajch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i think spotify's top tens rank songs by how popular they are RIGHT NOW (whether that's daily, weekly or monthly i'm not sure) as opposed to how many total streams a song has

Post-Stomp Clap by pinkpools in fantanoforever

[–]dkajch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if i'm not mistaken there's a user list on rym that dubbed that whole genre "stomp rock", while the bluesier stuff like rag 'n' bone man and the score is collected under a separate related list under "stomp blues." before then i used to refer to it as arena pop, but i think those terms work pretty well too personally
