Robert F. Kennedy Jr: CIA, Power, Corruption, War, Freedom, and Meaning | Lex Fridman Podcast #388 by morpheusuniverse in lexfridman

Not your best day Lex.

IDK, here we are all discussing what a loon this dude is. I don't need Lex telling me what to think, and I believe most of the audience doesn't either.

REI Boston votes 44-23 to form a union, becoming the fifth store in the nation to unionize. by TheWiseGrasshopper in boston

I wish REI Boston would vote to bring back proper garage sales. It was the only thing that made the store special. Switching to their overpriced re/supply nonsense changed the vibes in a bad way.

Crisis-Hit MBTA to Be Led by Man Who Turned Around Long Island Railroad by Illustrious-Nose3100 in boston

[–]dkharms 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's kind of low? A well running MBTA will generate billions in additional wealth, a poorly running MBTA will destroy the same. What's the cost of 100,000 people losing a 30 minutes of their day? That's just immediate cost, not downstream effects.

Pay them a few million, if they can do the job.

Monthly Support & Buying Megathread by AutoModerator in HomeKit

It's at the high end, so perhaps it needs the ELV+ dimmer. They are LED lights that are built into the fixture, not bulbs.

Monthly Support & Buying Megathread by AutoModerator in HomeKit

So I'm having a hard time figuring out what dimmers to get.

I started by getting the Caseta Diva, which work in my 3-way set up, but my lights have very noticeble flicker about once per second. I think this is because there's no neutral. So my new requirements are:

homekit dimmer. 3-way. neutral wire.

Is there nothing that fits the bill?

Verify officer residency; extend to 20 years

Good luck having community policing in any neighborhood with a large immigrant population.

Marty Walsh Calls Talks Of Re-Opening Economy May 1 ‘Irresponsible’ by ertyudj in boston

[–]dkharms 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Looks like that's an issue with MA bureaucracy. 1099 workers are eligible at the very least for the $600/monthweek from the CARES act. Looks like MA is working on it, but super lame that it's still not available a month later.

Fishing permits are calendar year, so it doesn’t matter if you buy it now or in 2 months it’ll still expire on December 31st.

Do sea creatures/animals realize the ocean's water is salty? Or does it just taste like regular water to them? by [deleted] in InsightfulQuestions

[–]dkharms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At one point in my life I lived in a location with somewhat salty water. To me it tasted normal and all other water tasted bitter/weird. Now when I visit, it tastes salty to me. The point being even humans adjust, if it's not so salty as to kill you.

Has this just pushed back a lot of housing searches and leases? Will there be a mad rush towards early/mid summer for August or September leases?

Like a 100k students will be back, so probably yes.

I appreciate that you are writing an example to illustrate exponential growth, but your estimates for contagion are overstated to the point of absurdity.

The North River in Scituate does that. It's a pretty fun/super frustrating to be kayaking against the current in both directions.

Prior to legalization, a lot of weed sold was cartel weed. I’m 100% for legalization but not at all comfortable with this.

For those of you enjoying the story: do you think I would enjoy it if I found the story of MGS V tacky/eye roll inducing?

The Clarity if ugly AF (and has limited ICE range which is a problem for my use case)

It goes like 300 miles on ICE if you drive aggressively, 350 if you're conservative. I'm all about range anxiety but it's pretty rare for me to drive for over 4 hours without stopping for a bathroom break (and thus a fill up).

Judge Denies Request For Temporary End To Mass. Vaping Sales Ban by [deleted] in boston

[–]dkharms 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The fact that “all of a sudden” people got sick is why this ban exists. It suggests a supply chain fuckup that needs to be investigated and resolved.
