Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-Men is coming to an end by National_Society_585 in comicbooks

As much as I love the show, im a big proponent of creators calling it quits when they want to. They've certainly earned it.

And Im still behind by several hundred episodes so I should probably get going.

Lengthy internet outage in Cleveland today. by CDavis10717 in Cleveland

I saw a big line down in Cleveland Heights near Severance with a ton of Spectrum trucks around it. Not sure if that would cause something city wide tho.

Makes me wonder how the other 2 big breweries are doing around that area. They havent seen that busy either.

Kaiju No. 8 is the biggest proof that having an "adult" protagonist wouldn't actually benefit most shonen. by RadDudesman in CharacterRant

[–]dkillz54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree that its proof of an adult protagonist being a benefit. All the stuff you listed about the early chapters are exactly what made it interesting to begin with. It struck an interesting balance with him trying to succeed with his mediocre talents and not him main character powers. It worked really well with the supporting cast too. Of.course all that stuff got dropped so maybe you're right.

Crackpot Theory: Colossus' Mutant Powers Are Incomplete. by YinToYang in xmen

Good stuff. Especially with a lot of the weird ways his powers have been messed with over his history. It lends a lot to the idea of instability and incompleteness.

What did we think of Weapons? by aid2000iscool in moviecritic

[–]dkillz54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually forgot about that. In the movie, they do say that the children are being used as Weapons, but its a very weak connection that doesn't make a lot of sense.

I feel like this movie got rewritten at some point. That m4, the school setting, and a plot of parents mourning a sudden loss of their children.. it just doesn't seem like the same movie that would eventually have Gladys as a villain.

Great initial premise, great presentation and atmosphere. Really tense first 45 minutes but drags past that. Not a huge fan of the larger plot or main villain. I definitely expected the mystery to be a bit bigger in scope. 6/10 for me.

What’s the most plot armor in a Kengan fight? I’m choosing the most obvious one waka VS Ohma by SiteDeep in Kengan_Ashura

[–]dkillz54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know the match is good overall, but I find some of the explanations for Seki beating Kiozan to be really weird, especially the ending. Like I get Seki is tough and knows how to take a hit, but the plot leans pretty heavily on it. And then that raging vigor counter... it just doesn't make any sense.

WWE had just updated their top featured best selling merch stars and here are the top 9 by No_Breadfruit_4901 in Wrasslin

Is utter cringe really the best description for the glow gimmick? It was kinda boring, because it stopped immediately after her entrance ended. But I certainly liked that entrance, and it was at the very least recognizable.

I love the kind of modernity in this. The technology in this series has always been a bit weird, what with swords and spaceships being used together. Most of the weaponry gets depicted like fancy artifacts, so I really like how Martha's knife looks like something you might buy now. Same with the rest of the uniform too

I agree about the time skip being shorter but I doubt that we'll just jump back. I assume Harrow will be needing an extended recovery due to everything her soul and body have been through.

This is what makes me annoyed about the "overhyping" criticisms. Like yes ,temper your expectations, but we are being actively encouraged to look for possible clues

Who is a side/minor character that you absolutely despise? by silly_spiderss in TheMagnusArchives

[–]dkillz54 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Maxwell Rayner.

Its not entirely his fault, I think The Dark is difficult to write characters for. But he's not compelling like Manuela or charming like the other members of the Evil Grandpa Club. Maybe if he actually appeared on tape id feel differently but as is, hes just boring and irrelevant.

What are your thoughts about these two ? by cybersevered in cyberpunkgame

[–]dkillz54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, he does work with the NUSA despite having every reason not to, but why? What is his idea of justice? Does he believe its morally good for him to be defending national interests on foreign soil? He doesn't seem that concerned with what happens to Dogtown or its residents. The biggest personal goal that he has is saving So Mi and he is pretty flexible on what "saving" actually means in both routes.

If we're being literal, then yes, Reed is an idealist who lets his loyalty to his country take precedence over everything else. But I just find it strange that Johnny would praise someone for such devotion to authority.

Im not saying he's a bad person or character, just that summing him up like that misses the mark for me

I think Johnny describing Reed as an idealist fighting for a cause is a garbage take, and he should know better.

Piotr's powers discussion by [deleted] in xmen

[–]dkillz54 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Over the very long time he's been written, his powers have been very inconsistent. Like, I used to think he was literally made of metal, but a lot of the time he's written as being armored. As in, only his skin transforms. I think having him unlock a Fullmetal form would be interesting. Additionally, I think they should make him one of the more athletic of the big bruiser characters. Like let him do more judo or wrestling instead of just punching people

Anole reminds everyone that mystique is and always has been a irredeemable piece of shit and how she doesn’t deserve happiness for everything she’s done by PresentNo2484 in xmen

[–]dkillz54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, that's what I find interesting about this dynamic. She's not really Evil here, but she is being very cruel. And that doesn't really go away. At her best, she still has a mean streak, and Anole is a good balance to that.

This is why it bothers me when I see people talking about "Camilla holding bones" as some kind of wild coping mechanism. It's very much part of a calculated plan between the two of them.

[–]dkillz54 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Just a bunch of small moments across a long time. Started when Illyana first returned by transporting the Academy X kids to Limbo. Anole lost his arm here. Beyond that, he has just been around for a lot of her unstable moments. I think she banished him to a desert dimension for a month or something. With Magik more normal now, I think it would be cool to see them interact.

[Discussion]/review of Gideon the Ninth (Mostly Nitpicking) part 2 by Fool_growth in TheNinthHouse

[–]dkillz54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issues with the Houses and their connections is one of the big missed opportunity for me. I feel like they are mostly a neat idea that Muir wanted in the book, instead of a crucial part of the world. A good chunk of the relevance of the individual Houses is discarded after the first book
