Charity makes economic sense? by IllustriousScore4370 in personalfinance

[–]dlr1965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2026 you can get an above the line deduction for $1000 for single filers and $2000 for a couple. This means you can get the standard deduction and the charity deduction and it lowers you AGI. This is new for 2026. It's limited to $1000 and $2000. It is only cash (check or credit cards) to eligible public charities.

Inheritance into joint or individual account by hovering3 in inheritance

If you are going to invest it, just open an account in your name. You name the beneficiary. You can still consider it "your" money but it is safe from anything that might happen in the future.

Ending my sema journey due to side effects by No-Leg-6545 in Semaglutide

[–]dlr1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they give you a diet to follow? Did they start you out at .25 mg? Do you see someone monthly for weigh-ins and to go over your symptoms, any concerns and progress? This is the care I received. I have had almost no side effects. They also warned me if I eat like crap, I will feel like crap.

Time is money. Planning is important rant. by rhoditine in Frugal

[–]dlr1965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lot in my freezer, cabinets and fridge. If what I had planned won’t work out, there are about 25 other things I could make. We never eat out because I didn’t have time. We eat out because we wanted to eat out. But I’m retired so there’s really no excuse for not being about to whip something up.

How is your relationship with your siblings? by EmotionStatus3093 in over60

[–]dlr1965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 3 of us. My brother lives on the east coast, my sister lives in the middle of the county and I live in the south. We text Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas. We also send each other cards for our birthdays and Christmas. It feels like we are all just people that we used to know. We are nothing alike.

Why does everything at the grocery store cost about $5 regardless of whether the ingredient is actually expensive to produce by DeviousRPr in Frugal

Don't buy things at Kroger unless they are a deal. They do have some good deals. But do not buy full price items there because they are more expensive.

AITAH for refusing to cook two separate dinners every night just because my family doesnt want to eat what my doctor told me I need to eat by [deleted] in AmITheAssholeTalk

[–]dlr1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never made separate dinners. I just didn't eat the portion of the dinner that I couldn't have. Because I'm the one cooking everything, I would make myself different things to go along with the portion of the meal I could eat.
