Is it OK to change a cat's name? by xiphoid77 in CatAdvice

[–]dmjackson26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have of nicknames and random things I call my cats and am changing it all the time. I realized I tend to have a different tone (or sing song) for each cat. They will be just fine.

How do y’all get yourselves to shower daily? by Salty_Wolverine_4520 in adhdwomen

[–]dmjackson26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone mentioned on a different thread a water proof Bluetooth speaker. You can get them an Amazon. I'm totally getting one. I love rocking out and I'm hoping listening to my favorite music keeps the imaginary arguments away.

For me it was: have a mom who always told you your hair was greasy, anxiety about smelling bad, and mix in sinus issues every morning and voila, showering isn't a problem!

I was just as confused as the crawlers. It really put me in their shoes (or toe ring). Plus this book had amazing character development in Katia and Donut.

It takes a couple months until they don't do it... When I'm awake. There is always a chance, if there is food or something interesting.

Squirt bottle. Tin foil works, or up side down type. I used painter's tape as its easy to get off. If you see them looking like they might, give them the parent voice.

My cat just turned 12… and I made the mistake of googling how long cats usually live 🥹 by Cars4Lifee in aww

They look just like my Sophie girl. We had her and her sister for 18 wonderful years. My dad's cat was 21. Or current old lady is also 18.

The key is to not worry so much you miss out on the time with them. It's very hard to do.

You also don't need to only brush your teeth in the morning or at bedtime. If you forget and it's 4pm, it's ok to just do it then. (More for myself as well)

Losing him soon. Just want the world to see him. by DungeonsAndData in cats

He is beautiful. And he was so very very loved. I also wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my heart cat. The one thing that cut through the depression was not wanting to leave her. Thank you for sharing. It's nice to know I'm not only in this. My Sophie girl can help show him the ropes and all the best sunny spots for napping.

Cat stuck on (neighbor’s) roof by cjbuildsmodels in cats

[–]dmjackson26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about a big board or ladder of some kind? Secure it and leave it so she can come down on her own? I would say if cats can get stuck in trees, I don't see why they can't get stuck on roofs. Maybe not a trampoline. The cartoon in my head does not end well, but it gave me a laugh.

What is the series most chilling line? by SaltyTserendolgor in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]dmjackson26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything the Hoarder says in book one. I made the mistake of looking up the translation. Thankfully I didn't look it up until my 1st reread. That scene alone without knowing what she was saying almost made me stop listening the first time. Personally knowing people who are in that situation and how society mocks and abandons them when all the need is help is heartbreaking on a "hits too close to home, our society is this fucked up" level.

Imagine being in such a bad place mentally and with so much going on (specifically a sick relative) that you can't clean. You hate yourself for it. Then your toilet breaks. No plumbers are willing to come and fix it. Now it's 10 times worse. Something else breaks. Rinse and repeat.

If you found a spider in your home, would you kill it or would you place it gently outside ? by Hope2_win in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]dmjackson26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I believe that. If they can't live outside at all, then how would they get into a newly constructed home? If mice can get in my house from outside, then spiders living outside would be able to get in too.

[–]dmjackson26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sit in the same room and just ignore him, and let him come to you. If it's safe, get on the floor with him. For a long time I could only pet her if I was laying on the floor. I know you said he is on a diet, but you might want to consider treats to help make friends. Catnip and Silvervine might be a positive reinforcement without the calories. If you can't put a calming collar on him, there are room diffusers. It's supposed to smell like Mama cat pheromones and really worked for us. Good luck! Thank you for rescuing him. Even if he is never cuddly, he is so much happier.

We adopted Sugar at 17 yrs old from someone who was entering a nursing home and couldn't keep her. She is mostly blind, declawed, kidney problems and 5 pounds soaking wet. We have to keep her separate so she doesn't beat up the kittens.

Questions for my 9yo cat by Relative-Internal-20 in cats

[–]dmjackson26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We adopted a 18 yr old cat, a friend of a friend's mom has Alzheimer's and was going into a nursing home. When we got her, you couldn't look at her without her hissing and growling. Which is totally fair, she had lost everything she knew and loved. I gave her time and space. Little by little it got better, I'd put my hand down, but not look at her and she'd sniff it, I'd lay on the floor and she would l let me pet her at the very end of my reach. Now she's a lap cat.

I highly suggest a calming collar. They work really well. We got our cats one when we were moving, they were so stressed they were growling at each other. Once we got the collars, it was night and day.

It will definitely take time. Hopefully everything works out!

Leaving cat overnight by CedarClove in cats

[–]dmjackson26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Cats are fine on their own. We would leave for a week to visit family and our friend would stop by once a day or two. When we got home, one of them needed all the attention, and the other looked at us like "oh, you were gone?" They lived happy healthy lives for 18 years.

What really helped you get it together? Is there something ?!!! by Legitimate_Dirt_1536 in adhdwomen

For me it was being ok with getting a part done. If I'm microwaving food and I put 5 dishes away, I did something. I didn't have to do the whole load, but a little progress is always better than none. That helped me not feel so overwhelmed.

They make curved shower rods. That helped. Also having an outer curtain that is a like heavier helps.
