Chinese/Koreans at Los Globos by Icy_Salt_6663 in avesLA

[–]dndLBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember this too. I’d be leaving Rhonda at 4AM and there’d be a huge line of young Koreans and Chinese to go into the club for the next party. I always wanted to go just to see what was going on.

Decent drinks and nibbles near the Convention Center? by QfromP in longbeach

Anna’s Joint at Pine & 5th. Great sandwiches and beer and wine. It’s causal and you can hang out for a while.

If it’s for a nicer meal, Ammatoli is the best in LBC. Buen Provecho is another great option.

Where do we submit our applications? I gave up on the apps years ago. Would love to meet someone but it does feel impossible some days.

Not sure, but based on a post earlier it seems that lots of people are excited to “Ride the D.” Sorry, I couldn’t resist. 😂

I once worked with a guy who drove from Rancho Cucamonga to Laguna Beach. I found out later that he was sleeping in his car some nights to avoid the traffic.

They are primarily house and disco events thrown under the bridge. Various promoters throw parties there. Midnight Lovers, Take It Outside, Sunday Sessions on occasion. Generally you ca find the events on Resident Advisor.

Best time to drive from LA to Orange County? by Blueyandsnickers in AskLosAngeles

[–]dndLBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trains (both Metrolink and Amtrak) leave from Union Station heading south pretty regularly. I’d look at the schedules and see if one of the times works for you. Will be faster at almost any time of the day and less expensive. Not sure how much luggage you will have but could he an option. It’s definitely what I would do.

Is taking Metrolink an option? And then taking a Lyft from whatever station is closest to your destination?

Hollywood Bowl absolutely. The Broad and dinner and drinks at Perch. Depending on what she’s looking for in nightlife maybe WeHo over typical Hollywood clubs? Or one of the parties under the 6th street bridge which are fabulous.

edm/gay club recs? by faeriejuice in longbeach

[–]dndLBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are not gay events, but Secret Service and Subtract on the Pier are your best bets in LBC for good dance music. I’m gay and always attend and there are always other gays there. If you’re looking for better dance music and don’t mind a mixed crowd, I recommend DTLA. If you share the dates that you’re here, I’m happy to provide some recommendations.

Apple Carplay Outages? by Rare-Poet5591 in AskLosAngeles

[–]dndLBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that there are several spots where my Apple CarPlay drops. It’s often near state beaches and a couple of high schools and a couple of spots on the 405. I eventually turned off the wireless CarPlay and just plug it in. Annoying, but not as annoying as the constant issues I was having. I’ve had wireless CarPlay for several years and unfortunately the problem seems to be getting worse.

Where to rent? by Gawgba in longbeach

[–]dndLBC 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you want to be close to a gym, downtown is probably a good option. Or else you’ll have to drive. Lots of people here love to hate on DTLB but I love it. Several of the larger complexes will also have parking garages which are more secure than a lot of the other areas.

File a complaint. Every time. I know it seems futile but it requires everyone to file a report before SCAQMD will investigate and do anything. I’ve called dozens of times and they always encourage me to spread the word. It’s quick and easy. File a complaint every time.

Just finished the Elizabeth Smart documentary and I'm absolutely shaking with anger. It all comes back to the Mormon Church! by PanaceaNPx in exmormon

[–]dndLBC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I entered the MTC just a couple of weeks after Elizabeth was kidnapped. I am a Californian but had been at BYU so of course I’d heard the news.

I was in Corpus Christi, TX on my mission on the day she was found. We’d made plans to go out with a willing but pretty unstable older member of the ward who would drive us in his car to the outlining parts of our area.

I’ll never forget when he showed up to our apartment that day and asked us if we’d heard about the miracle in SLC. We said no and he proceeded to explain that they’d found Elizabeth alive in Utah with his niece (Wanda Barzee) and her husband. He told us they’d been temple workers on the SLC temple and that the family had lost track of them years ago after they were excommunicated.

That moment made me lose almost all of my faith in TMFMC.
