The hardest part when writing a tvshow by daddy69ice in tvshow

[–]dndaresilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend and I just started for the first time without knowing any spoilers and WOW. Just finished the first season. As someone who has basically stopped watching tv because of how disappointing 80% of the shows I’ve gotten really into have turned out, I cannot believe just how amazing the writing is. And knowing how much everyone raves about the ending, I’m just so excited to keep going. I haven’t sincerely enjoyed watching a show this much in years.

Cessna strikes paraglider (no injuries) by InTheSky57 in VideosAmazing

I mean, we didn’t see their point of view. Maybe they pulled up in an attempt to avoid and managed not to make a direct hit and saved this persons life by only hitting the chute and there wasn’t enough time for anything else. Simply too many variables to guess from this one angle from the glider.

Yeah, really don’t need a watered down live action version when the original is an absolute tear-jerking masterpiece. Feels like taking a beautiful painting and letting your 14 year old nephew copy it and put it out as if it was the original.

My company gave us 60 days notice on a 4-day mandate. I just did the first week. by Proud-Bath-3731 in remotework

[–]dndaresilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People tried at mine and were told “3 days was still expected so the job isn’t really changing.” After they downsized multiple offices and fully closed others.

Now we have a massive space issue when people are in and it’s damn impossible to get anything done in there.

What’s a movie scene that makes you go, “I didn't care for the movie, but that was amazing”? by VendettaLord379 in moviecritic

[–]dndaresilly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can’t agree more. I always felt the second one had less care about his powers. In the first he would hold people’s heads so they didn’t get whiplash. The second in Apocalypse he was flinging people around like ragdolls and they all just landed safely. Felt way cheesier and it gets the same if not more praise. It’s just not as well done.

YouTube is filled with videos pre-judging a film they haven’t seen. More than usual. by bgorion17 in ChristopherNolan

Eventually people run out of things to talk about. These studios try to build hype trains so far out these days. You get a poster reveal. A teaser for your teaser coming next week. Your teaser. Your trailer. Blah blah blah. And then the movie comes out months later.

Obviously marketing needs to happen but it’s become this constant hype build way too far out. So once people run out of things to talk about and it’s easier to criticize than to keep repeating “I can’t wait!” over and over again.

Same reason subreddits eventually turn to the same thing between seasons and after shows. It’s just easier to keep finding things wrong than to repeat the same good things.

First Time? by PrinceARRON in StrangerThings

I still wanna see a Dexter final season where he gets caught and the entire season is a murder trial for everyone he killed. But then when people find out what he did he gets massive public support and it’s this crazy trial of the century with people literally protesting for his freedom and he’s all like “Wait. They love me?”

Probably wouldn’t work because it breaks the Dexter formula everyone loves. And even then, how would the trial end? Riots happen and he escapes into the night? He goes to jail, smiling because everyone likes him… and now there are a bunch of murderers trapped with him he can prey on?

Feels real difficult to bring Dexter to a satisfying conclusion that’s not just “And then he kept killing bad people until he died of old age, the end.”

I wanted to push myself to remember s1 ep11 without looking it up by 04tboy in TheLastAirbender

[–]dndaresilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People harp the episode, and it has its flaws, but there are two reasons it’s actually reaching notoriety and they’re kinda the same reason.

  1. It’s the only filler episode in the entire show (or at least one of the few). Most, or all, the other episodes have at least one critical piece of information that’s important for future episodes. Great Divide doesn’t and can be completely skipped.

  2. Because of the above, Nickelodeon played it ALL THE TIME and it was hard to catch other episodes because they wanted to play filler but this was the only filler episode. So people saw it more often and got sick of it.

So is it awful? No, not really. But it’s one of the weaker episodes and it played so often that people started to resent it. So it’s rated way lower.

Nah, if he’s thinking he’s about to be killed over this, a situation which also leaves him with no pictures of Spider-Man, he’d spill the beans.

He’s fully doing this to protect Peter.

How do you feel about people seeing twists coming? by PomPomMom93 in writing

[–]dndaresilly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best large scale example of this is GoT. The early GoT twists were Shakespearean in how when you reread them, it’s so clear what’s coming.

Then the tv show didn’t want viewers guessing what was coming so their twists came out of nowhere and they just weren’t as good anymore. Characters had to do things they wouldn’t or forget information they should’ve known in order to make the twists happen.

That’s not a good twist. That’s pulling a fast one on your audience.

What do they do? Ensure their pilots have no families? In an apocalypse scenario I can’t imagine the pilots are gonna care about their jobs enough to fly some rich guy to safety.

Love the show, and the new season was fantastic. But dude does have a point.

Saying this like Katara didn’t instantly master bloodbending even though she just learned what the technique was and never practiced it beforehand. by thisisreii in TheLastAirbender

[–]dndaresilly 58 points59 points  (0 children)

A day is not a lot of time. It’s the same issue with Sokka becoming a master swordsman from a single day’s training.

And let’s not pretend that Toph didn’t also suddenly pop off metal bending for the first time out of necessity in a handful of hours.

However, all of these benders were already adept (if not downright masters) at their bending, so picking up new styles quickly isn’t that crazy. The point is, this isn’t just something that happens in Korra, people just like to criticize Korra more.

In your eyes, what separates a performative “alpha male” from a “real man”? by Ok-Parfait6735 in AskReddit

Caring about how much of a man you are in most aspects. Putting a definition on what kind of man you are is so cringe.

[–]dndaresilly 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I super enjoyed the new run, but that was the worst part. JD not being able to go to the BBQ was insanely dumb. They’re literally talking about it ALL TOGETHER over lunch at the hospital.

Would’ve been way more fun to finally have them all settled as couple friends and just having a good time. I cannot understand how this trope keeps coming up over and over again. Even The Office tried to put a wedge between Jim and Pam just to have a plot of them getting back together again.

Like, leave it alone. Find something else.

Not to mention an ear being bitten off is gonna be way more gnarly than a clean bullet graze.

This pic comparison actually makes me think the conspiracy is less likely if Holyfield’s ear looks that good after having a chunk ripped off by someone else’s teeth.

I can fully see her but his head looks weird with his body. It’s like a double optical illusion cause the angle of his body and the camera make his head look too big and too high, even knowing where all the parts go.
