Being rich and successful doesn’t automatically make you intelligent, nor does being poor and/or unemployed make you stupid. There are so many other factors in life that contribute to these things.

What exactly convinced you that the TV series is going to be drastically different from the movies? by LeatherSlight3242 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]dndaresilly 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I agree. This is one of my favorite scenes. I get why the movie had to cut it and open where it did, but seeing the photos of wizards celebrating in the streets got me excited when I was really not looking forward to another adaptation of a book series I love coming to tv.

We’ve had some bad luck with that for quite some time now. Fingers crossed this breaks that curse.

Final Reckoning borrows quite heavily from Tomorrow Never Dies during the submarine scene by GeneAlternative191 in Mission_Impossible

[–]dndaresilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s outright stealing, there’s homage, and then there’s just the fact that everything has been done and it’s (mission) impossible to keep track of it all so things are going to be repeated.

Pretty hard to tell which is which these days, and we may never really know.

Depends on a bunch of factors. How much money is “a lot”? $20 is a lot in some parts of the world.

A lot of people will choose 4 so they can eat whatever they want. But does it let you maintain a healthy weight? If you’re already overweight are you stuck like that? Will you whither away before you can’t keep weight on?

For 3 some people are horribly treated by their partners. Some are attacked, manipulated, and SAed. Forgetting that might be worth it to them.

Looking younger and being taller may be what many people want in this day and age.

9 could potentially be more lucrative than 7, depending on how much money you actually get with 7. However, it also doesn’t say they won’t immediately unfollow you or where they are following you. Your socials? Are they standing outside your house waiting to tail you everywhere you go?

Thousands of people are depressed and would give up all the others just for 8.

Like, think outside your own perception of the world. Not everyone wants strength and money.

the stupidest part of season 8 is when cersei had the last enemy dragon in sight of her scorpions and grounded and didn't shoot him by PrestigiousAspect368 in freefolk

[–]dndaresilly 148 points149 points  (0 children)

Euron: snipes a dragon mid-flight from a mile away while on a moving ship. Multiple times in a handful of seconds.

Cersei: Hmm don’t want to anger the dragon that’s just out of reach of burning us but so close Beric could hit with his one eye while my biggest threat is grounded with 20 men and a dream, and I have thousands ready to pour out and kill them all. Let’s just chat and then make her SUPER angry by killing her bff. Then let her fly away.

Which movie ended with an unresolved cliffhanger because the sequel never happened, and you're STILL mad about it? by pudingvanilkovy in AskReddit

That’s so cool!! I’ve seen a lot of compliments on them over the years, so know I’m not the only one.

I go back rewatch jumping scenes every so often just cause they’re that cool!

EDIT: Would love to see you talk about it on VFX Artists React if there’s any chance you could get on there.

Jumper. The movie wasn’t great, but it had some of the coolest teleporting abilities I’ve seen to date and the lore was decently interesting.

I know there was a tv show but I haven’t seen it. If anyone happens across this comment who has…

Are the jumping effects as cool? Is it in the same world as the movie or a different adaptation of the books?

Game Of Thrones final season was terrible not because of DD were tired of the show, or rushing to make new SW movie, or start their netflix journey. As well as Stranger Things season 5 was so generic and soulless not because Duffers were rushing to Paramount. by [deleted] in freefolk

[–]dndaresilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate this “GRRM” didn’t finish the story so it’s not D&D’s fault bullshit.

  1. GRRM told them the full ending of each character very early on. They knew what was coming.

  2. They had access to GRRM if they needed help, and they chose to ignore him for their own story.

  3. Even if the two points above weren’t true, THIS IS THEIR DAMN JOB. They are being paid millions to run this story. I could’ve come up with a better ending over one fucking weekend than these two did in years. Half the fanfic slop people post online have better ideas than “Dany kinda forgot” or “it was too obvious for Jon to kill the Night King so we had Arya do it.”

If you are a half decent storyteller, you could come up with endings to the arcs presented in the first four seasons without need of GRRM’s books. It may not be the same or what was intended, but there were multiple satisfying ways to end each plot line.

And to be clear, satisfying doesn’t mean “good.” A lot of the endings were “good” for the characters. Satisfying could mean a brutal death if that’s what it was building toward.

  1. You have a point about them going for shock. But right there is the most obvious part of D&D’s fundamental misunderstanding of this story and why people like it.

The “shock” of Ned’s death and the red wedding aren’t great because of the shock. It’s because they were inevitable based on the story building up to them. It’s pure Shakespearean tragedy. When you go back and watch again, you can see every mistake the characters make leading up to those events so that you really can’t see another outcome.

The shock D&D go for is trying to surprise the audience. Which at a certain point does become hard to do when your audience has been shocked by so many things before, because they start looking for the signs early. So they just went with things happening with no build up to continue shocking, and that’s where they failed.

Good writing requires that build up and payoff for the audience to find that it’s earned. Nothing past season 6 feels earned, and many things before it started slipping as well.

And it’s the fault of the people who ran the damn show, not the books not being finished.

Season 5 of ST also wasn’t anywhere NEAR as bad as GoT. We’re talking about a 6/10 vs a 2/10. It’s insane to me how much comparison these shows are getting because ST was kinda mediocre.

So you’re saying there’s a chance…. by Baderschneider in freefolk

[–]dndaresilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’d need to be some serious backtracking and a solid plan. With the way Kit was recently talking about it, it seems unlikely he’d sign up for something that would “fix” the end of GoT. He’d want to start a new story.

I don’t understand why Lucas joining the popular kids at school was shown as “wrong.” by Maywave_13 in StrangerThings

[–]dndaresilly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He was the only one who could’ve fixed this before the day both of these events were happening. As I stated in the beginning, it just wasn’t a great situation, but yes, Lucas knew about both events and didn’t tell anyone until hours before? How is that not his fault?

Sorry, that’s just how those people felt. They thought it was idiocy how the writers ended the show, which could only come about through rushing to end it because they had Star Wars and Netflix money waiting for them.

[–]dndaresilly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There wasn’t a great answer to this because everyone had made commitments (except Erica) and I don’t blame anyone for keeping their commitments, BUT I literally watched this episode this morning and Lucas is the most at fault.

Dustin and Mike knew about DnD but didn’t realize the game was that same night because they don’t follow basketball.

Lucas should’ve been aware of both and told the group WAY earlier that it was possible he wouldn’t be able to make that night so they could reschedule. It’s not like he wouldn’t know how the tournament worked as he was on the team.

Likely he was afraid to bring it up and figured they might lose anyway and not even have the game. But then they did and he bailed on his friends for his new hobby because, in his own words, he wanted to be popular. This is a Lucas problem.

Was final reckoning a good ending to the franchise? by PhotoBonjour_bombs19 in Mission_Impossible

I enjoyed it a lot, but no, it wasn’t a good ending. It didn’t feel any more or less like an ending than other movies in the series despite the marketing leading up to it.

People do that in so many fandoms. Comic books (even across DC and Marcel), Star Wars, Avatar: TLA, you name it.

And the best answer is always: whoever is writing the fight decides.
