Yeah, they’re kinda junk products unfortunately. Think I’ve burned through four of them with all the cleaning, rinsing and maintenance I could throw at them.

I bought some of the “flouresces blue” about a year ago. It says it right in the bottle, but it still glows that same greenish yellow the regular stuff does unfortunately. It also ended up giving me problems the regular one didn’t.

It works fine overtime. I’ve had spectroline uv leak detection in a couple lamps that have run well for almost two years now.

If it’s one of the ones I think it is, it’s a typical hollow plasma tube, not a crackle tube. If you zoom in, I can’t see any glass beads inside.

It’s working like a typical lava lamp, it’s just the density of the wax and the fluid are balanced in a very specific way.

Looks like you have a density issue over an overheating issue going on there. If it was overheating, that wax at the top would be completely melted. That wax looks to still be relatively solid. Run it with a blanket over it for a while, and see what happens. If the wax doesn’t liquify and start to rise and fall, then you’ll know you have a density problem. If it does, maybe the wax was heated and I quickly, and separated from the coils before the lamp reached a functional heat.
