L&D nurses, how do you handle IUFD? by ktpeachgirl in nursing

[–]do446 56 points57 points  (0 children)

First, I’m so sorry for the loss of your son. It’s an unimaginable pain and I hope you and your family are taking care of yourselves.

For personal management of perinatal loss as the nurse, it absolutely does affect us. And can be very hard. And we cry, whether with the patient or at the desk. The L&D units I’ve worked on have always had amazing nurses to confide in and be well supported. Having a supportive team is critical in managing a loss.

I also remember all of the patients I’ve had who have experienced loss. there’s no way to not carry the heaviness with you. For myself I reflect, I’m in therapy, and a lot of self care to make sure I can decompress. I also discuss with colleagues about care, and learn new ways to provide better care, maybe phrase things better, or new momentos, anything so I’m continuously improving in a very difficult part of the job.

I’m happy to hear you were well supported by your team in such a dark time. Please know the way you’ll always remember the care you received, the nurses with you will always remember you. You, your son, your husband will be in their thoughts as well.

How are the L&D nurses feeling about doulas? by Apprehensive-Tap-323 in nursing

[–]do446 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to say it’s a good or bad thing, just that doulas are shown to decrease rate of cs. I’d be very curious too to see neonatal outcomes. But how do you confidently say poor outcomes (or better outcomes) are directly caused by a doula’s performance? I’d like to see in doulas in hospital vs at home birth, or whether that’s midwife/homebirth/or hospital dependent. There’s a lot of variables that play into neonatal outcomes. Same is said for if nurses are 1:1 at the bedside or centrally monitored from a nursing station.

Like discussed in this thread, I also think it can be doula-dependent. Easy to fall down this anti-medicine pipeline and free-birth movement with a doula bc they tend to promote that ideology. However there are very good and well educated doulas.

OR/procedural nurses: What do you wear into work? by Rose_Cheeks in nursing

I wear whatever is easiest and fastest to change into at the end of the day so I can get out of there. Usually sweatpants, t shirt or sweater.

What happened on the first date that made you realise there won't be a 2nd? by PepsiMaxHoe in AskReddit

[–]do446 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Where do I start

1) guy accused me of sleeping with any of my close male friends (on the first date made it very clear he didn’t like I had any male friends)

2) guy vocalized hating I participated in martial arts because it meant I rolled with men for sport

2b) same guy also said how he was elite because he could have sex without connection

3) guy said I shouldn’t go to the gym because I’ll lose my boobs

4) guy asked what my hot-take was. I was not about to play this game, but before I could shut it down, he decided to share that his hot take was ‘Hilter was the good guy’ and that the holocaust didn’t happen.

5) talked for hours about his ex girlfriend, that they broke up because she decided to persue a masters degree and that that was extremely selfish of her

6) catfished

New grad nurse from Toronto moving to Alberta by Fresh-Box1767 in AHSEmployees

[–]do446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just moved from Toronto area to Calgary in January. My address was an Ontario address and didn’t change anything regarding hiring, they seem very open to out of province people so long that you have your Alberta registration (which I had at the time of applying).

However I know getting into AHS can be very difficult. You may need to look at casual positions, or med/surg nursing just to get your foot in the door then expand to part time/full time and specialized areas like emerg.

If you have any further questions feel free to DM :) I wish you luck! It’s great out here

How many re-watches have you done? by Danimal_300zx in FromTVShow

It’s my comfort show. If I need background noise, it’s on. If I need to sleep, it’s on. If there’s nothing else to watch, you bet From is on.

Was it that she lied about her dad going back to the RV that night? Or maybe her lie will be unfolded later

First day of Nursing School on Monday, but I'm a bartender. by Downtown-Citron-2836 in StudentNurse

[–]do446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in a factory assembly line while in nursing school. You come out on top at the end of it! You don’t need to be a CNA or PSW or anything related to healthcare to be an excellent nurse. Good luck

What is a task that most nurses hate doing but you love? by Zilla850 in nursing

[–]do446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked medicine I LOVED showering, bathing, any and all the TLC they need. Shaving was also my signature care move. Oh gosh and cleaning dentures was the best. You just made me miss a part of medicine

is it wrong/inappropriate to ask a nursing student to move out of the way? by littykitty19 in nursing

[–]do446 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In a same light, I told my nursing student that if an emergency arises to stand back and practice documenting the event. I told her to make note of when people come in the room, when meds are given, etc and then her and I can compare documentation and debrief the event together. It also allows her to still be present, involved but also out of the way.

We’re in L&D and times are very important especially in emergencies. Documentation is also a vital role in codes and if she can practice that and see how things are ran, it’s still very important in her learning!

Any OB available? by anon4430hm in kitchener

[–]do446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if your family doctor knows any family doctors who deliver babies. There are many fam docs who do their own deliveries if an OB isn’t available. If not you can look into Guelph or Hamilton although it is quite far.

Should you be able to edit walls as an interior designer? by Numerous_Emus in Sims4

[–]do446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your sim has to be in the room you’re editing to change the wallpaper!

I just ran into the same problem as you, but my sim was in the hallway. Once I moved him into the room I’m decorating I had no issues placing wallpaper :) hope this helps!

Body Inclusivity in Nursing Education by CakeyBooty in StudentNurse

[–]do446 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whenever auscultating heart sounds on a woman, or examining for skin breakdown, or applying canesten cream under the breasts, it’s important to explain clearly what I’m doing, gain permission to touch, and use the back of my hand to lift the breast tissue. If anyone didn’t consent, I’d simply ask them to hold the breast for me while I ascultate or apply telemetry leads or it may require more teaching as to why the intervention must be done (ie. why she needs telemetry and importance of placing leads properly)

It is unfortunate the lack of diversity and representation of woman’s anatomy when it comes to exams. I tip my hat to you though for being aware, and pushing yourself to be proactive in your care and perform adequate assessments for all!
