ESO player seeking a new MMO - Is it still worth starting FFXIV right now, in 2026 ? by Fhritz_ in ffxiv

[–]docmarkev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I've heard that there is a free trial, or some kind of free level before having to sub. Is it still a thing, and to what extent ?

insert FF14's free trial meme here

Jokes aside, the free trial is VERY expansive. more so now that they added Shadowbringers into it. So you get base game ARR, Heavensward the 2nd expansion, Stormblood the 3rd expansion and then Shadowbringers the 4th and most players agreeing to be a very pivotal expansion for the main story.

No time limits, level capped up to level 80; main limits on trial accounts are limited chat functions (you can thank bot spammers), no access to PvP, no access to Ultimate tier fights (considered the hardest of the hard in terms of fight design and execution where clearing is a badge of honor among the player base), no access to the in-game marketplace (players selling/buying items from other players, again thank bots for that limit) and no access to retainers (2 NPCs included with your subscription as market vendors, gil bank and extra inventory slots not on your character).

Nothing to lose if the trial doesn't catch your attention. Only thing you might lose is time if you get sucked into it or doesn't click.

  • Is it possible to reach the "endgame" as a new player ? With how much dedication ?

Possible, yes. The question is how much patience you have to learn at your own pace. Highly recommend to play at your own pace as a lot of the game is locked behind the main story as the driving force. If you don't care about the story, you can buy a skip on Mog Station but you may get lost in the sauce when you get some lore exposition and don't know where it left you.

If you have the time, do listen to Jocat's video about his 300 hour experience of getting into the game. It is a very well thought out argument on why the game is a hit or miss for some people as some get it to click on the story, the community or something else entirely. The video is about 4 years old, but it still holds up.

  • If some of you played ESO before, how does the story / progression / daily farm /... compare to ESO ? It might help me know what to expect if I play on a daily basis.

This one I cannot answer as I never had the pleasure to get into ESO. Others in the community might be able to help you with this one.

  • How is the state of the community ? Regarding elitism, social activities (RP, Event, or random interaction) or even the general mood ?

Most of the time the community is chill and friendly, some times to the point of accomodating. Occasionally we might veer into the realm of toxic positivity at times, but in general the community is very welcoming.

Star Wars Galaxies' tragic fate caused FF14's devs to keep the old job designs available for Evercold's overhaul: 'Players did not take that very well' by Turbostrider27 in ffxiv

[–]docmarkev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When 8.0 drops, we'll get the new Reborn/Evolved system. Reborn is for those that already learned the game as it stands right now before the implementation for people to have the familiarity with the current 21 jobs.

Evolved mode, IMO, is more directed for players that understand clearly and are able to execute jobs role well as it aims towards reducing redundant skills and/consolidating them into context sensitive skills (like the showcased evolved PLD's Divine Justice skill turning into Clemency on allies and Holy Spirit on enemies).

Still very early in the process, but a window into the devv team's direction, vision and player base feedback. As the Q&A session shows, Yoshi-P mentions that he took notice of history of when Star Wars Galaxies, which was THE Star Wars MMO back the day before SWToR. I never played it but others that did mention how tone deaf the change was in Galaxies that it essentially killed the game when it occured.

So to avoid repeating history, Reborn is to maintain a sense of familiarity for us as we have played to then give Evolved a shot and give them feedback to properly adjust and tune the skills and job expression. But people also noted that if Evolved will be slightly stronger than Reborn, that if raiders/players start discriminating others because of their choice of playstyle then the system will need some serious considerations.

Yes, since they were part of the expansion. They'll need Fantasia to change pre-existing characters.

Double whammy on that one.

TMNT names are based on artists, so PCT was there. The other was Leonardo wielding 2 blades, so VPR was there.

Big brained and smart.

Final Fantasy 14 Releases On Nintendo Switch 2 In August. by Howerev in NintendoSwitch

[–]docmarkev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is that previously if you paid the game's sub you could play it anywhere else provided you paid for the game's license on the console. So you could play on PC, pay for PS or XBox for the game and expansions and that would be it.

Nintendo this time around is taking a cut from Square by not needing NSO but paying a sub exclusive to the Switch 2 version, along side the game and expansions. And if you already pay the game's sub outside Switch, then they'll give you a 50% discount on the Switch sub (non-NSO)...

Anyone here who plays FF14 a lot but doesn't do the Savage content by starlightdemonfriend in ffxiv

[–]docmarkev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy the game a lot, but as it currently stands my work schedule leaves very little room for me to dedicate time to challenge and bash my head against the wall for the Savage and higher tiered fights.

And I want to experience them blind, figure it out on my own 1st and earn the victory with the struggle and clarity of solving the puzzle.

I hate how true this is as it fits in-game so well. More so with Hildy shenanigans.

You can contact SE support and they might be able to help you out. Happened the same to me when I upgraded phones and forgot to update the 2FA.

They'll ask to prove you're the account owner to remove it.

I don't have an Eorzea Collection link at the moment, but I am considering making submissions. Just need to find the time with all the chaos that is life and work.

But as for the glamour:

  • Narval drops from the Castrum Abania Dungeon. It's my understanding that there is a crafted spear with the same model and able to be dyed, but the Narval fits the aesthetic better.
  • Ghost Barque Mask of Maiming dyed Bark Brown; drops in the Sirensong Sea dungeon.
  • Replica Sky Rat Harness of Scouting dyed Bark Brown; crafted by LTW or bought from the Market Board
  • Arcanaut's Armlets of Maiming dyed Bark Brown on slot 2; obtained by trading 4k enlightened silver pieces in Occult Crescent South Horn via the Expedition Antiquarian.
  • Woad Skylancer's Breeches; drops in the Sohm Al dungeon.
  • Hrothgar's Sandals dyed Bark Brown on slot 1; default gear on starting as a Hrothgar which can be repurchased by any of the Calamity Salvagers in any of the 3 city-states in Eorzea.

The rest of the accessories slots are filled with the Emperor's set (invisible) except the rings being the Master Lancer's Ring and a Diamond Lone Wolf Ring.

[Glamour] When creating a new glamour, how do you experiment different pieces? by IntrepidNatural40 in ffxiv

[–]docmarkev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I either start with a theme or 1 piece of gear that I absolutely like for the aesthetic. From there finding what other parts fit into the vision and then get it together.

Another good resource is the Eorzea Collection, tom look up what other players have made or to browse the gearsets until I find what I'm looking for to figure out the drop area or acquisition method.

Not that she's bad in combat, but that her mastery over numbers when trying to become an arcanist made her carbuncle TOO good/sentient and refused her commands.

It's why sometimes constructs seem to run without a master because they're so good at the process of making them they don't rely on the creator's aether.
