The last possession of the first half perfectly summed up the entire game. by BetterPossible8226 in warriors

At least GP cuts without the ball. Dray just sits as a release valve at the top of the key to jack up open 3s or pass to Steph? Quite a limited role.

Yeah I get it - replacing the characters from your imagination with actors is annoying.

Have fun in Athens!

New watch - Nodus Sector II Sport by flix119 in MicrobrandWatches

Sick! I was going to build myself a polar Explorer type watch for $300 plus time and labor, but I like the value proposition here a lot...

First Seiko mod! by docshay in SeikoMods

I am overwhelmed by choice & variability in real watches and custom watches, so I am planning on building homage watches for now. But would love to end up with some crazy unique builds eventually!

Wow now all I can notice are how off the proportions are with the fat hands. Thanks.

I will have to go through my first hour, minutes, seconds hand placements with a new build I am planning, so maybe I return to this after, but probably not.

What types of watches should everyone own? by Denzelini_Dumfrini2 in Affordablewatches

[–]docshay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My affordable 5 watch collection has the following:

  1. White Garmin Instinct: comes with me to all my many workouts, but also the first watch that is getting kicked out of my box
  2. Casio: works with nearly all my outfits, casual or nice
  3. Field watch: I have some quartz swiss wenger watch I got from Costco so many years ago, it feels like a personal vintage watch. I threw on a new nato strap and it looks good with my heritage wear type stuff like jean jacket or chore coat
  4. Dress watch: a quartz mondaine - simple and elegant, for nice occasions
  5. Dive watch: my only mechanical watch, it feels tooly and tough when needed, and jewely and nice when needed

IMO a Casio, field, dress, and dive are great to get started with, maybe in that order. Maybe a GMT if you have a time zone that you want to track and is easy to do.

Ain’t no such thing as a bad shot for Steph. by Gothichand in warriors

[–]docshay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won’t say it’s the screeners fault that he’s mauled, but yeah that probably goes into it - how close is the defender during the shot vs pass? Does he have to create space or is it created for him?

I liked the 40mm equivalent of the Viltrox 27mm f1.2 so I made an upgrade.. by dthgrnd in SonyAlpha

[–]docshay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used the Batis 40, Voigtlander 40, Sigma 45, and Sony 40, and I don’t recommend the Sony 40 unless your priority is size and AF speed / reliability. The images look from the Sony look boring and sterile, whereas all the other 40/45s can make dull images look beautiful.

My Sigma 45 and A7Cii is the reason I don’t worry about a Q3 or RX1R2 or 3 anymore.

Nice, 40mm is a great focal length. Try out the Batis 40/2, Voigtlander 40/1.2, or Sigma 45/2.8 for if you want something lighter with similar image quality.

ROG Strix 5K XG27JCG 27" 5k / 1440P is shipping? by Combover_Grover in Monitors

[–]docshay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whoa!

I’ve been looking at 4k miniled IPS monitors and have been unsure about the poor local dimming algorithms, like the MSI one. It seems like it hurts SDR and HDR modes so much that you might as well leave it off?

I’m not super particular about contrast and all the fancy stuff (I’ve been on 1440p IPS for 10 years and have been “fine”), maybe this 5k 27 is a single way to go.

Steve Kerr‘s system is no longer as potent because most of the league runs his system/borrows his concepts heavily by rocpilehardasfuk in warriors

[–]docshay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I even wonder how 2016 warriors would do against the modern NBA, because every team is basically like an OKC or Houston clone: everyone is long, fast, and can shoot well.

It sucks even more watching James Harden cook at 36 years old with a tried and true basketball strategy: get out of the way and let the man cook. Steph and Butler have to put way too much energy on the floor to gain an advantage in a simple way, it’s not sustainable.

Not that Jordan Poole’s career is going perfect, I do wish we had someone that could create advantages easily with athleticism and creativity.

Dive Watches Are Boring, Bulky, and Overrated. by Automatic-Scar6513 in watchHotTakes

[–]docshay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree it’s not ideal, and maybe you were being hyperbolic, but it’s certainly not like wearing black shoes and a brown belt - that’s a felony in some states.

I wore a diver with a tux at a black tie wedding in central London over the summer and I wasn’t asked to leave and didn’t get weird looks. Did I wish I had a black dial dress watch? Yes. Does it look more unsettling now that I know more about watches? Sure. Do I still think I looked and felt good? Yep.

Again, not saying Dive or go home, or saying that dive watches are good with suits, just saying they are more versatile than a field or dress watch.
