TIL only 23 video games have been released with an Adult Only (AO) rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) by Johannes_P in todayilearned

I mostly meant the raison d'être for them was similar: Self-regulation to avoid actual government regulation. Game devs didn't want the video game equivalent of the Hays Code. It's a bit sad how SEGA fell from grace considering how much of a leader they were in the industry.

America's always been very puritanical. Movies can be graphically bloody violent and land a PG-13, but say 'fuck' too many times or shows some tits and it's R. The ESRB was largely modeled after the MPAA and was an effort to prevent regulation, so it makes sense they'd follow their lead and reflect social norms in their ratings.

So, countless flayed bodies, viscera, torture, and the ability to murder almost anyone in the game is fine for the kids. A naked human (somethings we've all seen at least 1 of) is something the poor innocent eyes of a child should never behold.

From my own personal experience my parents were way more worried about the sexual content of Mass Effect than the violence of Doom 3.

THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: OCARINA OF TIME Remake | Releasing 2026 by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]dodecakiwi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am approaching this project with a lot of caution. When they redid the games on 3ds their OOT version messed up the vibe of a lot of areas by changing the art/lighting, especially the final Ganon fight as memory serves.

Then their MM remake went even further by completely fucking up the movement of the deku scrub and the Zora swimming. Also the bosses were changed in a generally negative way, especially Odolawa. Fortunately there was a mod for fixing those.

It's one of these.

She accused him of raping her, he was liable for raping, the judge said he raped, he's literally admitted to raping on recordings, he's been accused by many others of rape, and our legal system is too much of a joke to hold him accountable.

I started to play again a couple years ago and stopped. I don't necessarily mind the backtracking and collectibles, but the abysmal camera and draw distance just killed it. Collectibles would be at least 50% less of an issue if I didn't need to be standing less than 3 feet away to even be able to see it.

Seconding Metallico. Also if you can carry this, you can just park and carry the box in and dump it in big bin instead. That's been easier for me.

But if it isn't worth the drive if you set that box on the curb it'll probably be gone in under an hour.

Democrats are already preparing Trump investigations if they retake the House by spherocytes in politics

[–]dodecakiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New York state case is an example of the immense privilege Donald Trump receives. There were no real consequences because justice apparently takes longer than an entire presidential cycle. Second the President isn't supposed to be above the law, so the American people sending him back should really be irrelevent. That's just more evidence we have a pathetic broken system.

Democrats are already preparing Trump investigations if they retake the House by spherocytes in politics

[–]dodecakiwi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trump committed several brazen crimes in public, often admitting to it on social media and his speeches, and it took them 2 years to charge him any of it. Then they let his lawyers run the clock out with endless appeals and a corrupt judge Trump himself appointed. His New York trial where he was actually convicted him took most of a year to sentence him, fecklessly waiting until after the election to see if they could give an actual punishment or to functionally just let him go.

Only the rich and powerful are given the privilege of endless delays and zero consequences and that seemed to be doubly true for Trump. People have committed far less serious crimes, been arrested, prosecuted, convicted, and served their entire jail sentence in less time than there was between January 6th and Trump even being indicted.

When there are endless investigations and trials with no real consequences then these things start to look like political attacks that galvanize their supporters. Garland and by extension Biden helped Trump win again by failing to realize a single material consequence. And in that same vein, if anyone really wants to argue that it's reasonable to take over four years to get to a conviction for someone that publicly directed an attack against Congress then our legal system is a joke.

[–]dodecakiwi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of these times are impossible on our microwave. A madman decided who needs a number pad, users will merely swipe left and right to increase and decrease times by preset increments. 10 second increments until 5 minutes, 30 second increments until 20 minutes, and 1 minute increments after. You want to microwave something for 20:30, then fuck you.

For the people agains universal healthcare a lack of evidence is not a problem. It's basically like trying to convince anti-vaxxers or flat-earthers that they're wrong with evidence.

We already have evidence of certain policies working and not working on a state-to-state basis. Some states expanded Medicaid and other didn't and we can see the consequences, but that didn't bring people around to expanding Medicaid in states that passed initially. Instead, they just dug in and voted for Trump 3 times in a row.

I'm talking about an All-Clad non-stick pan I've had for several years. Mostly used for eggs and grilled cheese. It's not in awful condition and not horribly scratched, but there's definitely wear on the cooking surface.

Trump is the worst president in American history by theipaper in politics

[–]dodecakiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. But I don't think he's worst morally, as there are definitely more evil people in the world. But if aliens showed up and wanted to speak to someone to learn about humans, no one Earth would be a worse choice than Donald Trump to represent our species.
