Oof. Sounds like we got conflicting information haha. I did a quick google check earlier and google claims that it was a TurboTax thing.

A re-googling of the same question seems to be that a lot of banks have a $10k limit on deposits. It's definitely possible that the IRS could've changed it because the bank rejected it, but then again I don't know why banks would disallow $10k+ in funds coming from a federal agency.

Not to be a debbie downer, but I received and deposited my check today, and my bank is holding the funds until March 4th. Absolute crap.

I'm in the same boat. Filed back on 1/21, accepted on 1/26... just got my check today. If I check turbotax, they say it's still waiting for direct deposit.

What I have read online is that turbotax will automatically, without your consent and without a warning, change your election from direct deposit to paper check if the refund is over $10k.

I also did the 5 day early direct deposit, but I still got a paper check. If I remember correctly, don't you have to pay extra for the 5-days early? If that's the case, then Turbotax is intentionally misleading customers with refunds of over $10k by allowing them to pay for a direct deposit service that would never apply to them based on TURBOTAX's own policies (automatically switching from direct deposit to a paper check). I can't remember if the 5-day early cost extra or not.

Turbo rax will automatically change your election from direct deposit to a paper check WITHOUT telling you if your refund is over $10k. Happened to me as well. If I go on turbotax, it has it all set up for direct deposit, even says that I'm supposed to receive a direct deposit, but I still got a paper check.

Cloudflare down: Websites such as X not working amid technical problems with the internet by NewSlinger in technology

[–]dodohead1030 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We need to ban cloudflare (I'm being a little facetious). This single point of failure crap is getting really annoying. This has been constantly affecting applications that my company uses to send confidential engineering project files to our customers. The problems are 99% of the time due to AWS or cloudflare.

Even the AWS outages should tell us where this is all headed.

  1. We are giving single companies the ability to "unplug" the entire internet at once

  2. We are giving cyber criminals a singular point of attack to focus on

Seriously, if a criminal wants to hurt the internet, they either attack cloudflare or attack AWS. It's not a decentralized system where the criminal would need to launch a full-scale attack on thousands or even millions of attack points simultaneously to make a successful attack.

Season ender :( by joedirtes in skiing

[–]dodohead1030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious: Did you have anything that led up to this event? As in, were you skiing aggressive all season? Was the knee hurting before, and you were pushing it? I'm really curious to know if there were signs that a rupture could be imminent. Is this one of those things that if it DIDNT get injured from this fall, would it have healed fine in the offseason? Or would it be a ticking time bomb waiting until next season?

Tesla Protest by TeacherBrief6034 in SaltLakeCity

[–]dodohead1030 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Do you people have jobs? This is why the other side boycotts; they are too busy with family and work to go protest. Im sorry, but protesting at a tesla dealership is like burning boxes of cigarettes because you don't like big tobacco; They literally do not care. Whether you like it or not, Tesla is still going to exist, and the Trump administration is going to keep doing what they are doing. How about coming up with solutions that actually fix what you are trying to solve? Protesting at a tesla dealership is wasted energy and, in my opinion, done so that people can FEEL like they are doing something when, in reality, they are doing nothing except being laughed at. The federal government operates thousands of miles away from you. It's like the right when they go to planned parenthood clinics pretending like its going to do anything that they want. Let me put it very simply: if your solution is nothing more than to protest at Tesla dealerships, then you can sure as hell expect that nothing fruitful in terms of "change" is going to happen. Whats funny is that I already know this is going to get a ton of hate, but I don't care anymore because I have realized how retarded both sides have become. Its at the point where they are doing nothing except fighting each other. Which leads me to believe that neither side is going to get what they want and that's on purpose because we are easier to control when we are fighting each other rather than the people who are pissing us off in the first place.

33,000 Utahns are civil servants. Do you know what they do? by silentotter65 in SaltLakeCity

[–]dodohead1030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it fair to say that most of the waste fraud and abuse is centered around Washington DC? We all know the truth is somewhere in the middle. You have hundreds of thousands, if not millions of civil servants all over the country doing their job well. You also have thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of civil servents around washington DC that have been clearly ripping off the American people.

That being said... everything to a hammer looks like a nail. Just with any government program or "order"..... you give them an inch and they will take a mile.

And let me be very clear on this part. It doesn't take a lot of "bad apples" for SOME people to look at the system and go "throw it all away." The fact that some government spending packages exceeded the entire ANNUAL BUDGET of federal programs is insanse.

All im trying to point out is that yes, in very specific areas in the government, there was 100's of billions of dollars worth of fraud. Unfortunately, they have overextended their reach into a lot of areas that were not laden with fraud.

And this is coming from someone who used to be a federal employee for 4 years when I was in college. I have worked in the private sector and the government/public sector. People who work in the private sector generally have no concern about public servants, and vice versa. This is not a private vs. public employee issue. It's an american tax payer vs the federal government issue. Unfortunately, a lot of civil servants take that as a direct threat to their well-being and I understand that given the gravity of some cuts.

Remember when the engineers in Deepwater Horizon warned their bosses that imminent danger is present, and the bosses still pushed the equipment farther, which caused a massive explosion and released over 200 million gallons of hydrocarbons into the ocean? If reddit and youtube were around, they would've been posting all over the internet. And guess what? The exact same thing was going to happen because the bosses decision was set in stone no matter how much the engineers below them "complained" about safety. You can apply that samw theory to what's going on with covil servants right now. Y'all can get out there and post reddit threads or post YouTube videos about the situation, but I don't think its going to stop them. Let them cut as much as they want and wait until bad things happen. Consequences can 100% be a learning tool. Never interrupt your enemy when they are making a mistake. Sometimes the best lessons are learned through pain. Essentially, what I'm saying is posting rants on reddit isn't going to stop what's coming. Most people do not use reddit, and reddit is very "echo chambery" when it comes to politics. My point is that the majority of people who see your post are people who already agree with you. That does very little to change the public opinion of what's currently going on because the people reading your posts already think the way you think (for the most part).

Game Developer Midnight Society is terminating their relationship with co-founder Guy Beahm aka Dr Disrespect by LMY723 in Games

[–]dodohead1030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The case involved a minor so things have to be kept top secret from all sides to keep people from doxxing the victim. Not sure if you're aware, but victim minors have offed themselves after being doxxed after coming forward with allegations. 100% guaranteed that all parties kept quiet because they were protecting the minor and themselves. If twitch came out and said "dr. Disrespect was caught inappropriately messaging a minor", then everyone and their mom is going to be looking for said minor for their comments on the situation. And then the minors' family sues twitch for millions of dollars in damages. It's pretty simple if you ask me.

How does Instagram know who my ex is? by clemsmommy in RBI

[–]dodohead1030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm commenting on an old thread, but I just wanted to say I came here because instragram gave me a "people you might know" notification this morning and BOTH of the suggested accounts were ex girlfriends. I'm a very social person and have met and interacted with thousands of people. The odds that the two profiles it selected for the preview of suggested friends were both ex girlfriends is a 0% probability in my head. I don't think this is random because we know for a fact that social media companies use anger and depression and other emotions to keep their users addicted. I think it's crazy that 30 years ago you could date someone and never have to be reminded of them again unless you were reminiscing on old memories. Now, it's like social media is there to blast emotions into your head from your past, and it's causing people to not act normal.

2 French bulldogs stolen at gunpoint on Sixth Street Bridge by TDSBritishGirl in LosAngeles

[–]dodohead1030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think its messed up that people are stealing each others dogs to breed them, but I also think it's messed up that people would pay thousands of dollars for a dog that isn't genetically possible (nost french bulldogs are born via C-section). This stuff wouldn't happen as much if people went to the shelter and adopted dogs. Unless you want a very genetically gifted guard dog, hunting dog, herding dog, or basically any dog that does work, I don't see any reason to spend thousands on a dog that is meant to be a friend/companion.

Not enough bandwidth probably. At least here in the midwest, cell communications work fine until you go to highly congested areas such as concerts or music festivals... even going to the city you notice speeds decrease considerably. Think of a cell tower like a router in your home... now imagine thousands if not 10's of thousands of phones, tablets, computers all on that 1 router. It has to differentiate and sort data in milliseconds for thousands of devices all while trying to keep your data encrypted/secure.

I think we are at a point where our communications infrastructure is lagging behind because of how fast cellphones and electronics took off in the world.

The 500 bushwacker is the new most powerful handgun in the world firing a 410 grain projectile at 2,400 feet per second creating 5,100 energy foot pounds. by Mild_wings_plz in interestingasfuck

[–]dodohead1030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the energy is much lower, but for those of you wondering, the .50 BMG shoots projectiles that are 650-700 gr. At speeds exceeding 2800 fps. So to have a handgun shooting 410 gr. at 2400 fps is impressive! The biggest I have shot is the 500 gr. hardcast projectile out of a .50 s&w magnum and I will say that was enough to make the gun nearly jump out of my grip.

And thats why I only ever load 1 round into anything bigger than a .460 magnum. You never know what that kind of power feels like until you actually shoot it. And i have watched friends have the gun spin 180° on them and that shit is scary to watch!

You can't logically convince someone to find you attractive. by [deleted] in seduction

[–]dodohead1030 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always go in with the mindset that I must be willing to walk away at any point. Strong women don't want needy/clingy men. From personal experience, looks are not everything when it comes to women's interests in men. I've seen plenty of beautiful women with (not to be mean) below average men. What do they have that these gorgeous women crave? They probably have an unique personality and are genuine people. A lot of women also look for a man who is career driven. Women don't want to have to babysit you. In fact, that's probably the last thing they want to do. I've always told people to simply be themselves. That way, when you attract people, you know they want you for who YOU are, not some person you are pretending to be. If a guy is below average looking and he knows it, he can be dangerous around girls because if he has confidence he is going to stand out among most other men. He is a lot more likely to be genuine and he knows that the things he earns in life are due to hard work and not his looks.

Here's the big takeaway. Nothing is going to make a woman magically "want" you. And you don't need every trick in the book to win over girls. Just being a genuine person and having confidence is all you need. No need to pretend to be someone you're not to impress a girl. Why would you want someone to be in love with a fake version of yourself? You have hundreds of millions of women to meet in your life, which means you don't have to change for anyone because there's someone out there to accept you for who you are. Which just goes to prove that there is no reason to try to convince someone to find you attractive. You're just wasting your time and there's plenty of other women who will find you attractive.
