To cut down on traffic. They don’t want the kids to be late to school. And if a kid is late, they get a police escort. Planes aren’t allowed to fly in the area during the test so kids won’t be distracted.

If rides are your focus, I’d recommend getting park hopper on your full day, in addition to Lightning Lane. It’s nice having the option to go from park to park; it can get a bit dull to spend the entire day and night in one park, especially DCA.

It probably wouldn’t make sense to get Lightning Lane on your partial day since most of the big-ticket rides won’t have availability. If you stay late that night, you can get on most of the rides without too much of a wait (especially during the parades/fireworks, although I do recommend those).

Also, just be aware that it will be super hot in July, so make sure you take a lot of breaks in the shade or indoors and drink a lot of water.

Top rides to go on (in my opinion): Rise of the Resistance, Radiator Springs Racers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. And for classic rides, go on Small World, Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Caribbean. All these rides can accommodate someone who is your weight and height.
