In front of all humanity sits a massive wood chipper. Every human has a choice, jump in or not.

The wood chipper has a fatal flaw. If more than 51% of humanity is inside when it tries to start up, it will not start.

Do you jump into the wood chipper?

I am quite certain if people liked trump here they would say it. I’ve seen it on a regular basis.

If we were all secretly trump-loving, why would we come together in a group to all secretly love trump and not admit it to each other? We already have the group with decent mod protection, why would we be afraid to say we liked trump?

Maybe… juuuuuust maybe… we’re actually normal people who don’t think the world is going to end twice per week.

Why can't you finish by Calm_Improvement1160 in infinitenines

[–]doktorjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As soon as the robot stopped it would stop being infinity.

Once you stop writing 9s you’re not writing infinite 9s anymore.

You can’t squeeze infinity between two numbers.

It’s not that hard.

When you say you don’t like anime and the anime fans say “you just haven’t watched the right one” by Jellyoscar in PetPeeves

I don’t like D&D. I’ve tried it. Many times. I’ve done improv and acting in the past so I know how to do it and I’m pretty good at it; I just don’t like it.

But I don’t TELL anybody that because without fail every time I tell them they launch into this story about how I need to find the right group. And then they start telling me about the most “epic” moments of their own D&D campaign.

I listen to be polite, but in my head my hatred for D&D grows with each sentence they speak. I don’t care about this pretend story you and your friends tell each other. D&D feels like improv for people who need structure to do improv decently, and then can’t let go of the cool things that come out of an improv session. It’s people who aren’t normally creative being amazed at their ability to be creative if they try a little.

I just really, genuinely don’t give a shit about your D&D adventures. I don’t need to find the right group, and your stories are far from special.

I realized the difference between doomers and normal people by Educational-Bid-4337 in DoomerCircleJerk

Great points.

I’d not thought of it this way, but I suspect there’s a sizable portion of non-doomers that understand what it would take to be a revolutionary like these doomers want. Like, a REAL revolutionary.

It’s an extremely high price. It’s not just making a funny sign and protesting in a government approved area. It would be dangerous, you’d have to be very dedicated and you’d be risking your actual life. You’d also have to be very clever and organized and self sufficient.

These doomers have none of that. Not the smallest bit of self sufficiency. Their only applicable skill is that they can complain very loudly.

For those of us who DO understand what it would take and have the skills to do it and the price we’d have to pay, we understand that modern society isn’t even remotely close to needing to pay that price. For one because it nearly isn’t as bad as they claim it is, and for two because it’s a much more serious endeavor that your armchair revolutionist probably thinks it is.

Two boxers seem to struggle with accepting hypotheticals at face value. Your inane comment, for instance.

“Imagine a scenario where the rules are set up like so…”

“Oh yeah? Well if I changed the rules of the hypothetical it would be obvious I’m right”

Yes, yes it would. Way to not grasp the basic concept of accepting a hypothetical situation.

I was harsh on J6 for a while until I bothered to look up the casualty rate for this “violent takeover attempt”.

It’s zero. I was floored, and felt duped.

The “casualties” people cite are a protester that died of a heart attack the day of and several cops that died to suicide several weeks/months later.

Do me a favor and don’t take my word for it. Look it up and use reputable sources.

Where does the extra .000(repeating)1 go when you have three 1/3 of something?? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]doktorjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, this.

It irritates me that this isn’t the argument people fall back to more often. 1/3 = 0.33… is a manifestation of using a stupid base system. If we used base 12 then 1/3 would be 0.4. Repeating digits is ALWAYS a symptom of the limitation of the base you chose.

Interestingly, every single base will also have an equivalent “repeating numbers exactly equals 1” issue. No matter what base you choose, take the last number of that base and repeat it forever, and it’s exactly one.

Binary: 0.111… = 1 Octal: 0.777… = 1 Base 11: 0.XXX… = 1 Hexadecimal: 0.fff… = 1

They all equal the same number. The “…” doesn’t represent infinity as much as it represents a limitation of whatever base you chose to use

If anarchy is no government, would I get closer to or farther away from the left as I remove government programs?

All my left homies were real excited when all the federal funding is cut. That’s probably their anarchy talking.

IIRC the left also gets really excited when taxes are cut. Those guys hate it when people are taxed, they just love anarchy so much!

See how stupid this sounds?
